Tasty Food.. I had Take out. I did not like that they failed to call me back to tell me one of my orders could not be completed as they had ran out of it and I had to order something else and wait there a short while, but the atmosphere was dim lit to dark.. a small Bar I did not get to try. My server was nice and helpful. I will visite to stay in soon.

I tried the encebollado and it tasted VERY fishy, not in a good way. My friend had the ceviche and had an equally bad impression of the shrimp. I understand seafood is hard to keep fresh and up to standard but still, there is no excuse for subpar Ecuadorean food. The customer service was fine. The waitresses were very nice and attentive.

We have come to this restaurant about 10 times if not more and it’s been amazing, never had an issue. Starting off with us ordering ceviche, encebollado, caldo de salchicha and they failed to bring out the lemon… until we asked/ like how?!?! We never got utensils even after we asked, and to top it off they made a mistake and added an extra bolon. When we let them know about their mistake, instead of just accepting it they got annoyed and said that we had ordered it. They took it back, and had a different waitress bring it to us again. We told them it wasn’t ours and we didn’t ask for it and they took it back. We assumed they would take it off the check, but they still charged us even though we didn’t take it or ask for it. The food was not good, it seems their chef has changed. Safe to say; we will not be returning to this establishment. Not the kuchara it once was.. go elsewhere

Response from the owner

We apologize. The chef hasn't changed; perhaps the unpleasant experience you had made you feel bad. We'll look into what happened and fix it.

*updated based on owners response*
We have been here 4 times before, we always either order steak or chicken with lentil rice and plantain.. the waitress got our side order wrong, they could have just fixed it and kept it professional. But she got angry and went to her coworker Christian. Christian was extremely rude and unprofessional. He could have just fixed the order, it’s not like we were asking for a change, it was their mistake, they brung us the wrong side order. Christian came in leaning on our table hovering over us and his tone was aggressive and mean. He tried to refuse to change our side order, all this for lentil rice and plantain. How absurd. The owners need to teach their staff especially Christian that he shouldn’t harass the customers. We were going to call the police for his discriminatory and harassment behavior but instead we will reach out to the owners.

What is equally disappointing is the owner’s public response to our Google review, in which they threatened legal action against me for sharing my honest experience. Attempting to silence customers through legal threats is not only unprofessional - it may also violate the Federal Consumer Review Fairness Act. I am not afraid of your threat.

Response from the owner

We apologize, but you can't accuse someone without proof. We have security cameras, and the harassment is never recorded. Be more careful with your comments. Furthermore, take it down, or we will take legal action.

So I’ve come to this place multiple times and never had an issue. The night I decide to come and try my fave dish from all Ecuadorian spots, once I saw it I already noticed it was different but as most people know me I try to avoid issues so I tried to eat it .. I ate the ONLY 2 shrimps it had since I love seafood to perhaps make me feel happier about the dish but it wasn’t it, I tried putting ketchup and mayo which I never have to do cause the dish has never been an issue. It even had a lime taste like why?. My family asked me what’s wrong and they told me to let them know and I hesitated but I let them know about it. The waitress came I told her there’s something off from it and she said ok do I want something else? And I asked will it be charged she said she’ll ask cause I told her at this point I was scared. She then came back with the plate after awhile and said the kitchen tasted it and said nothing was wrong and that on top it was missing the shrimp( the 2 shrimp) lol … I told her it’s fine I don’t want anything I just asked a question I didn’t have to be told if the kitchen liked it or not I am the one paying and tasting and I tried to eat it but it just was off I just didn’t want to order an additional thing. I felt so offended and so did my family so we ended our dinner there asked for the check and when the original waitress came she said if something was wrong and I told her what happened but that my issue was how I was told things like what? You’d never have an issue like this elsewhere. We have come to this place along with family and never an issue so this one was like wow! She was so apologetic and I told her it’s not on the waitresses but the instructions behind the scenes is not ok when things like this happen. I’ve been to so many restaurants. I really felt like if I was being treated like if I was trying to get a free meal I wish I would have taken a photo I barely ate the corner of the plate with the TWO shrimp. I enjoyed my
Margarita and planned to stay longer but nope we paid in the check full and will not return! My own people it’s crazy. To each its own but that treatment was not ok. I guess they thought bringing the same dish back to me after it being walked around the kitchen back to me I’d eat it 😂😂 yeah no thank you! The waitresses in my eyes are not at fault fix management and how customers are treated! Look at the pics we were off to a good start even though it took forever to place our order

We got a margarita
A michelada, soda, salchipapas, encebollado, seco de gallina and my famous chaulafan ( you really thought I was going to run off not paying 20$ for a chaulfan?) yeah no. I even calmly explained maybe something changed in chefs I don’t know but don’t come at me in that matter or anyone

Response from the owner

I'm sorry, but the portions are already prepared. I don't know what could have happened. I'm truly sorry.

Me and my family have been here before and were very pleased with the service and food but this time was completely different. The service was absolutely horrible, we asked for appetizers and drinks, we ordered calamari and when it finally came there was no sauce to go with it, once we asked if the sauce was coming the waitress said it’s coming. She brought ketchup and mayo over and said they didn’t have the normal sauce (marinara sauce) and walked away we would have liked to know that before so we could’ve ordered something else. We are almost done with our appetizer and our drinks have still not arrived, at this point we are getting frustrated because we are eating our food dry and with no drinks. We ask the waitress what happened with our drinks and only then is when we finally get our drink's. Once we got our food we realize our food is cold. Me and my sister got the Churascco and both of our meat were cold. We tell the waitress the meat is cold and she says okay and takes both our plates, in less than 5 minutes she hands us our plates back, the meat was now warm. It seems like all they did was put it back on the grill for 30 seconds on both sides and back on the plate. At this point we decided we were just gonna eat our food and leave because we didn’t wanna go back and forth with our food and to also receive no apology for the meat being cold. Since we got our food we were not checked in on once, we felt completely ignored. Once we asked for the check we realize they gave themself 18% tip! Absolutely ridiculous for the service we received. Once I realized she gave herself $32 I was very upset and asked for the manager which they did not call. The waitress asks what’s wrong and I tell her about all the things that went wrong with our service and meals. She had the audacity to say that the tip is because the waitress brought over our drink, the waitress only brought our drinks after we reminded her we didn’t get our drinks. Super unprofessional, I was going to tip her what she deserved but after the back and forth and still no manager I just wanted to leave. We came here for my fathers birthday and left completely disappointed and my dad even apologized for asking to come here. Will never be back.

Response from the owner

I'm so sorry, I truly am. I don't know what could have happened; perhaps the waitress was having a bad day. I sincerely apologize, and I hope we can serve you again as you deserve.

The best meal I've had in a long while. Everything was prefect. Atmosphere, food, service were all exceptional. Alison was the best server and hostess. It felt as if she had invited us to her own family's home with her high praise to the owners and how much she loved sharing the experience with others.
Let's dive in to what made this place special. The food was honored. Simple respect to the food! Everything was fresh and prepared to perfection. The ceviche was phenomenal. The goat and pescado were cooked to perfection and sent me to memories of my childhood. The plantain chips were thinly sliced and fried perfectly.
If you like cocktails the passion fruit mojito is a beautiful drink with fesh mint leaves. I had my first Ecuadorian beer and it was delicious, served with sale rim and lime and limon. Honestly, if you're still reading this review, stop. Go get the food. Enjoy the experience and get the higos con queso for dessert. No regrets! ❤️

Never been to an Equadorian restaurant before, first meal after the flying over from Europe that day. Food delicious, beer too. A bit empty for a Sunday evening, but the food came quickly. There was no water at the table. Pretty waitresses. Clean and cozy atmosphere. Chairs a bit uncomfortable I have to say.

Lulu juice had no liking.only 3 tables filled and yet we waited over 20 minutes for food. No water offered or update from waiting staff. Guatita’s potatoes were not thoroughly cooked. So disappointed as Barzola was up the block but wanted to give Kuchara a try- as we don’t get to Queens much.

I hope they take constructive criticism. Always wish fellow Nanos well. Other than that, the decor is cute and the concept has potential :)

Visited here on a weekend for an early dinner late lunch the place was on the emptier side given the odd time it got full as we finished up. The staff was extremely friendly, answering all of our questions, and super accommodating. I came here with my Ecuadorian in-laws and they were blown away with the flavors and taste of the food especially the ceviche!! Would definitely come back more often if I lived closer.

First time trying it and so far did not disappoint at all. My new favorite spot for Ecuadorian food. The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious, the service is exceptional, the price is reasonable and the staff are very helpful and funny..

Very nice experience. I was able to enjoy a very flavorful food in a great loose, safe environment. This Ecuadorian place is popping. It feels really young and hip. Good music and great drinks. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely, I'll be back. Of course, they told me about how they roll on weekends , can't wait to experience that. My overall is a 5 stars. Recomended 100 %.

The first time my family and I went to La Kuchara the food was good. We had encebollado de pescado, ceviche de camarón, bollo de pescado, caldo de bola de verde (which I recommend to stay away, it’s not their best), entraña, humita. The drinks they make are very delicious hands down no matter what day you go. Service must improve!! They have lots of servers on the floor but it takes forever to get the simplest of things like napkins, water which they don’t serve it unless it’s ask and when you do ask it takes a while to get it. Other than that it was good. Finding parking is a hassle

Update: This the second time the family and I came to the kuchara and we were very disappointed!!! The food was not edible. Our steaks were burnt, the encebollado did not taste the same, the fritada was dried and tasted like it leftover meat, my brother-in-law had to drown it in curtido so he can eat. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!
Service again was horrible!! A restaurant with so many waiters on the floor shouldn’t have bad service. I showed our waitress the burnt steaks, she acted like she didn’t care and didn’t even offer an apology. WE WILL NOT RETURN!!!

Great food. I enjoyed the mixed ceviche the soup and the steak. The food was superb my only complaint is they brought the main course and all appetizers at the same time..I felt overwhelmed and did not enjoy the food as we should have.. They have live music.
