I don’t know what’s happened to this place but it’s not the same place it was 5 years ago. It seems there have been some management Co changes since around 2023 that might explain things.

I used to eat here regularly at least a couple of times per month when i lived in hell’s kitchen. The NY strip used to be melt in the mouth with a perfectly seasoned crispy char/sear/crust on the top. Now - almost zero char and under seasoned - first time i have ever reached for the salt shaker. The texture of the beef was also grainy. Id taken a friend from out of town here because he’d never had a proper NY steak. This left him very underwhelmed.

See photo for comparison of what it used to look like now (left) vs then (right)

At $72 a pop it’s too expensive to try again on the off chance things return to their prior form. It’s a shame because the place itself is beautiful and the vibes and service are still superb…

Food was excellent. I went for the Wagyu and Wine pairing. Amazing. My guest had the tuna tartar and that was delicious as well. Ryan was my server and she was most sweet and consistent. Def going back.
Quality steaks, apps and desserts for sure. The service was great, restaurant was clean and the atmosphere screamed steakhouse. In my opinion though, when in NYC there are so many steakhouses, I’d look for a classic NYC steakhouse for an authentic experience.
The Capital Grille is a special place for me. It was my first great American steakhouse where I was introduced to the science of steaks. It happened many years ago, and since then I've been to many great steakhouses, but Capital Grille will always be a special one for me.
So when deciding on a place to celebrate 3 birthdays with my girlfriends, the Capital Grille was a no-brainer. And it didn't disappoint.
Everything was great - service, food, ambiance. I personally love their wedge salad. It's not a complicated salad, but they do it specifically well.
Our steaks were cooked perfectly as we ordered. The wague fillet mignon was out of this world good. Truffle parmesan fries hit the right spot.
A complimentary dessert was a cherry 🍒 on top.
Evening well spent.
The Capital Grille in Midtown is where I go when I need a reliable business dinner that never disappoints. The dry-aged porterhouse is consistently excellent with a deep beefy flavor that comes from proper aging and a kitchen that respects the process. The lobster mac and cheese is indulgent in the best way creamy rich with chunks of lobster that justify the price. The wine list is extensive and well-curated with an emphasis on bold California cabs that pair perfectly with the steaks. What sets Capital Grille apart from the trendy steakhouse scene is consistency. Every single time I walk in I know exactly what I am getting and it is always good. The service is professional without being robotic they know their regulars and they treat first-timers with the same attention. The bar area is ideal for a pre-dinner drink or a meeting that does not need a full table. The decor is classic dark wood and white tablecloths but it never feels dated it feels intentional. In a city where restaurants come and go faster than taxi cabs Capital Grille has maintained its standard year after year. That reliability might not make headlines but it builds a loyal clientele and I am one of them. When the deal matters and the dinner needs to be right this is where I go. It never lets me down.
Always great food and personal service...I have gone to most of there locations all over Florida and New York...The only one I did not like was the one close to Grand Central Station by the United Nations in east midtown....the staff was friendly but the service was not the usual standards and the food was the fist time I had actually left all my food which was not pleasant. Other than that all the other locations 444 Brickell Miami, Naples, Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Sarasota, Paramus, And Midtown Manhattan are right on point the service, the personal touch for special occasions, and of course those amazing steaks with my favorite Courvasior Creme Sauce and their extensive wine cellar choices never disappoints. They are a huge favorite especially my beloved Brickell location.
Everything was amazing. From food - to drinks - to service - to the thoughtful and delicious dessert they included for my birthday!
We came as walk-ins and were very grateful that we were seated right away. Our server, Maria, was very sweet; however, overall the wait staff was not at the level expected of a fine dining establishment. Their English was quite poor. The service itself was excellent, and thanks to Maria for her food recommendations.

One thing I would point out is that the hostesses do not seem to have a proper dress code for a place like this—it’s really not appropriate to see a hostess wearing UGG boots and a gray T-shirt.
Typical American steakhouse.
Food was just ok. Service was a bit tough but the bartender saved the night.
The servers are very profesional and attentive. The steak is cooked to the temperature I request every time. Kudos to the cook. I've been served by Lysandra (my favorite), AJ, Edgar and Joey. I recommend the lump crab meat. As well as the wagyu filet mignon. 8oz just the right amount and full of flavor. Lysandra knows her menu items extensively
We come every year for Thanksgiving, this year we had spectacular service! Rob was our server and he was absolutely the best yet! He made our thanksgiving memorable and enjoyable! It was the thoughtful extra touches. He was very attentive, polite, and brought an electric energy (he was genuinely happy to be there). The food was delicious as always! We will be coming back based on this experience!!!
Looked around places in NYC for a burger and drink at a bar. The Capital Grill really delivered. Service is so much better, staff friendly & helpful. Bathrooms were really clean and multiple team member asking if we need anything else. Wagyu & Wine was a great deal and glad I stopped by!
I visited this restaurant to celebrate my birthday, and everything was wonderful from start to finish. We were welcomed at the table with decorative touches that made the evening feel extra special. The appetizers were delicious, the cocktails were excellent, and the steak was cooked perfectly—we loved it.
A special thank you to Edgar, who went above and beyond to make our night memorable. We truly appreciate his help and kindness. Highly recommended!
Best steak ever. I strongly recommend you to try it. The food that comes with it is as good as the meat itself. They have bought the full harvest of a good wine brand. Their cocktails are also good.
The light level is very suitable for an elegant dinner. The ambiance is nice. There is quality furniture and upholstery. The walls are decorated with nice pictures.
The waiters are attentive, but they are not very good at effectively arranging the table. Put everything I said aside, you have to try this meat
We visited this place because it’s known for its steaks. The three of us shared two different cuts, and while the meat itself seemed to be of good quality, the seasoning was far too strong and salty—we couldn't eat much and ended up leaving most of it.

Compared to many great steakhouses in Manhattan, it was a bit of a letdown. That said, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed.
