Slate Cafe in NoMad has that cool, minimal aesthetic without ever feeling cold. Think clean lines, soft lighting, and a layout that balances openness with intimacy. Whether you're here for a quick espresso or settling in with your laptop, the space adapts to your energy.

The coffee is strong and balanced, with that clean finish you want when your morning starts early. Their food offerings lean fresh and modern simple ingredients done well. A toast, a salad, a pastry with just the right amount of sweetness.

There’s a quiet rhythm here, especially on weekdays. The kind of place where meetings happen over lattes and solo thinkers find their corner. It’s sleek, but never sterile like the city itself, just softened.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday. Waited about 5-10 minutes for a table to open up but altogether wasn’t that bad. Space is first come first serve after ordering.

Ordered the flank steak sandwich, a pumpkin muffin, pesto chicken bowl, and some coffee.

All the food was really tasty. The flank steak sandwich was nice and tender and juicy. The muffin was moist and had a nice faint sweetness from the pumpkin.

The hot vanilla latte was great. The “Vietnamese” coffee was not a Vietnamese coffee at all, but was not bad as a regular iced coffee. I’ve learned that NYC truly does not have any “real” Vietnamese options, but you can’t blame me for wanting to try.

Overall a solid spot for lunch. I wouldn’t stray too far from the classics, since a classic cafe can’t be expected to excel in anything but classic cafe food.

Nice breakfast options and quality and very good service. This was one of the few places that opened on Sunday after the snowstorm so finding it was a pleasant surprise.

Lovely place with a cozy, pleasant interior and delicious breakfasts. Everything was served quickly, which is a big plus. A perfect spot to start your day in NYC. Highly recommended!

Look past the other reviews that give us less than five stars! The service, the food, the speed, the team here is doing it the best. I got the chicken pesto bowl and it was excellent!

An average breakfast spot — good if you’re looking for something quick.
The food was good, though the place is a bit small.

The waitress asked us to leave after a while since we’d been at the table for too long. It wasn’t a bad experience, but it shows how popular and busy the place can get.

I found the portions a bit small for the price, but overall the café is nice and nicely decorated.

I'm a lazy riser on the weekends, so I came here for some brunch. Mushroom scramble was great, I liked how the egg, mushroom, and feta all came together for such a great taste. The granola in the yogurt was delightfully crunchy, I liked the matcha and chia pudding, it was a great brunch!

Was looking for a quick bite in the neighborhood before heading to the airport. Ran across this via Google and saw the good reviews. I came in around 1030am and the place was mostly full. It took a few minutes to decide, but I settled on the Breakfast bowl (add bacon) and a peppermint mocha. I have to say, the breakfast bowl was absolutely amazing. Everything complemented each other perfectly, and the cilantro dressing just tied it all together. The mocha was excellent. I left extremely satisfied that my last meal in NYC was such a great experience.

Came for a quick bite and was satisfied! We each ordered a sandwich. The flank steak sandwich was very satisfying and it was nice that it came with a mixed green salad. Very busy despite it being 1:30pm on a Wednesday. Staff was busy and we waited a bit to order

Decent spot for breakfast with a good, regular selection. Tried the avocado toast with scrambled eggs and a cappuccino. The food was fresh and tasted good, but the coffee was just average. The interior is comfortable, though it can get quite crowded in the early morning, and there aren't many outdoor seating options. An okay experience overall.

Slate Cafe Nomad in New York has quickly become one of my favorite spots in the city. I visited on two separate occasions and was blown away both times.

On my first visit, I ordered the breakfast pizza and a chai, and it was absolutely delicious. The pizza was perfectly balanced with fresh ingredients and just the right amount of cheese—an ideal way to start the day. The chai was warm, comforting, and spiced just right.

I couldn’t resist returning the next day, and this time I opted for the avocado toast with another chai. The avocado toast was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Paired with their consistently excellent chai, it made for a fantastic breakfast.

The atmosphere at Slate Cafe Nomad is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect place to relax, enjoy a meal, and sip on some chai. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this café is a must-visit for a memorable breakfast experience. Highly recommended!

I recently spent some time at State Cafe and had a delightful experience. The sandwich I ordered was fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made. The coffee was also good, providing just the right pick-me-up.

One of the highlights of State Cafe is its ambiance. It’s an ideal spot to work, with a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable seating. The open window offers a great view of the bustling streets, making it a perfect place to watch people go by while getting some work done.

Overall, State Cafe NYC combines excellent food and coffee with a pleasant, productive environment.

One of my favorite cafes in NYC! This spot is always my go-to for a weekend brunch, and during the week I like to get lunch and work from the cafe. Service is always friendly. Everything on the menu is great, but my favorites are the rose matcha, avocado toast, and pesto chicken bowl.

Thankfully we found this gem!!! We are SO IMPRESSED with the beauty of the dishes and how FAST they got us our food. Everything we ordered was gorgeous, atmosphere is gorgeous, modern, beautiful decor. I would come here again and again. We ate a full breakfast: avocado toast, mushroom scramble, and rose berry waffles. Then ordered hot chocolates to go for the day, mine with oat milk. Go, you won't regret it!

Very cute place for breakfast/lunch. Space is limited, but we were able to snag a spot. Lots of vegan and non-vegan options, with both sweet and savory. Dijon chickpea salad sandwich was so so good. And the sweet toast? Obsessed! Def a must try if you’re in the area

Response from the owner

Thank you for a great review! So glad you loved the sweet toast as much as we do. We hope you'll visit again soon!
