Food is fresh because you get to pick it straight from the seafood display. Then they will grill it or fry it for you. Friendly service friendly staff. Place is always busy.

We went in right after it opened. There were already people in there, and we did still have to wait. For 2, we ordered: grilled shrimp, fried calamari, mussels with tomato sauce, grill octopus, and salad. The shrimp was over cooked with too much evoo. The calamari was the best I had in a long time, the octopus was alright. I'd love to go back if it weren't for the waiter coming outside to ask me for tip...you pick your own food and wait inline to order your own food already. Anyways, I didn't know you'd need to bring cash to tip them. I had only $7 in my pocket, and the guy grunted unhappily when I said that's all I have. Clearly, I thought everything would've been added to the bill when we paid...a bit strange. Won't be visiting again
What a great (and fun) experience
The food is soooo good
If you like seafood this is the place 🐟 🐠 🦐 🦪
Fish Mkt./restaurant probably Greek. You pick it they cook it your way. Bring your own beer/wine or not. Lunch is an easier time for a seat inside or out. Give the guy who brings your food a cash tip.
What a unique restaurant for fresh seafood! You go all the way to the back to pick the kind of seafood and how much you want, then you pay at the counter, they cook for you.

The next thing you need to do is to find a table. We were there on a Saturday at an early dinner time, this place was already packed! Fortunately, the server would help you to find a table. Prepare to share table with others. There is no privacy, the place is loud, and the smoke from the grill is all over the restaurant. However, this is the kind of lively vibe this restaurant gives out. We waited probably 40 mins for our food. Everything was delicious! No complaints on the food.

We understand the restaurant is busy, and the servers are trying to clean as quick as possible so others can be seated. However, we did feel rushed by the way they were tying to take the plates away, etc.

Overall, it’s a unique experience that you can probably experience in Queens. Good food, good people, good vibe. Give it a try!
Best Seafood restaurant In New York for Freshness, Flavor, Selection, and Price. The seafood you pick to eat- was swimming hours before in the ocean. Does not get better than this! This restaurant is truly a gem. I got the barbounia and had them on the grill with some veggies and they were delicious! I also had the shrimp and salmon empanadas that were out of the world! 10 stars if I could.
This is a one of a kind place for sure. Was a little overwhelmed at first but the staff was really nice and helped me pick the seafood. Ended up getting a salmon fillet and shrimps. I asked them to cook in their recommended way.

Their salad (extra) was phenomenal not to mention the complimentary garlic bread! The shrimp which came out fried was the juiciest and very good. The salmon which was cooked in garlic butter was scrumptious too.

Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area.
Great food!! Super busy and packed so definitely try to get here earlier if it’s a weekend day. We went on Saturday around 6:30 and after we chose the seafood and paid we had to wait around 1 hour to get seated and get the food. Worth the wait!! Very fresh and delicious. We got the sea bass, flounder, octopus, calamari half grilled half fried, salad, potato, and shrimp
Instead of ordering from a traditional menu, you walk in and select your seafood directly from the large display. You’ll find a wide variety including shrimp, squid, whole fish, fillets, and premium options like Chilean sea bass.

After choosing and paying, the kitchen prepares it for you right away. Most dishes are simply cooked with garlic, lemon, olive oil, salt, and pepper, which really lets the freshness of the seafood stand out.

The atmosphere is very casual and lively, and the place is almost always busy. Seating is communal, so you should come with an open mindset since you’ll likely be sharing tables with other guests.

They don’t serve alcohol, but the restaurant is BYOB, so many people bring a bottle of wine or beer to enjoy with their meal.

Overall, it’s a fun, no-frills seafood experience to eat in Astoria.
Lunch and dinner are usually packed with lots of people. But the wait is worth it. Choose from the different really fresh seafood and let them cook it to your liking. Definitely a place you should check out.
originally reached out to Astoria Seafood while searching for a specific specialty fish, and I am so glad I did. Despite a weather-related shipping delay, their team was incredibly reassuring, even offering a full refund if the product didn't arrive in peak condition. Fortunately, the fish arrived perfectly fresh and on time. Having ordered twice now, I can confidently say their quality and cleaning are unmatched. Between the 'top-shelf' support and the fresh product, I’ve found my go-to seafood provider.
Oh my god, Astoria Seafood Market is a gem. I’ve never had an experience in New York that transported me back to Greece the way this place did. The entire concept is incredible. You pick your fresh catch, they season it simply, and everything centers on freshness, flavor, and sharing. It’s the kind of food that reminds you how good simple cooking can be.

The staff is genuinely kind and always ready to help, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming and effortless. We tried the calamari, shrimp, and a whole fish, and every single dish was stunning. The lemon potatoes are perfection, and the complimentary garlic bread is such a thoughtful touch. It feels like a reminder of when restaurants used to give you little extras because they cared.

Astoria Seafood is delicious, charming, and full of heart. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Food was great but a limited selection of preparations for fresh. Everything was cooked perfectly: squid, shrimp, scallops & lobster tails. Perfect! Excellent cold beets, Greek salad, & that Lobster Bisque was the absolute best I ever had. If I return I'm getting the fish stew as well. Everything they had prepared was just excellent! But make no mistake this is a fish market there is no decor & a fish market smell.
This place is so real with the fresh seafood quality. Pretty packed and loud place but amazing place to have seafood and hang out with friends. It could be better to organise the line and queue, but overall experience was fine. We had a lot of shrimps, different kind of fish. They all were so good!!!
If you like seafood, skipping here is a huge loss. Cannot recommend this place enough—friendly staff and truly wonderful food! We’ve been here twice now and can see ourselves coming back often. The seafood is reasonably priced and perfectly cooked. I’ve liked every single thing we’ve gotten. For sides I especially love the lemony potatoes.

I will say that if possible, plan to come on a weekday. There can be long wait times for seating on weekends and the place gets very crowded. I would definitely recommend eating in, though, because you can’t beat freshly cooked seafood.
