Saar is an outstanding 5-star Indian restaurant and look forward to eating there again when I go to a Broadway show.
On word of warning, I took home the leftovers of the very good lamb Korma (made to special order). Unfortunately the lid of the plastic container was so on so tightly that when I opened it later great force was required to get the top off, the container broke and the Korma went all over me, the kitchen countertop and the floor!
I suggest they use a more customer friendly container or do not take any food away.

Response from the owner

Thank you for the wonderful 5‑star review and for enjoying the lamb korma. We're very sorry the takeaway container caused that mess — that should not have happened. We will pass your feedback to the kitchen and management and review our packaging to ensure easier-to-open, more secure containers. We look forward to serving you again after your next Broadway show and will make sure your takeaway is handled better.

Thank You! We are glad that you loved SAAR NYC. Authentic Flavors, Warm Hospitality

Saar Indian Bistro is a gem. We ordered the Sarson ka Saag and it was outstanding — rich, earthy, and deeply authentic, with that rare home-cooked soul you don’t often find in a restaurant. The kind of dish that instantly transports you.

A big shoutout to Falak, who served us beautifully. Warm, attentive, and genuinely hospitable — great service like that makes all the difference.

If you’re after modern Indian food done right in New York, Saar is well worth a visit!

Response from the owner

Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for highlighting our Sarson ka Saag. We’re thrilled the dish brought that home-cooked comfort and that Falak’s warm, attentive service made your visit special. Your kind words mean a lot to our team. Solo diner off the lunch menu, the food was hot and delicious! My waitress, Tasnim, was covering as a bartender and though claimed to be inexperienced did a wonderful job with both of my drinks and provided great service. The decor is very nice, and I felt well taken care of. Will def come back to try other items off the menu! With tip, I did spend a pretty penny but worth it *to me*

Ordered:
Sparkling water
2 cocktails (blanking on the name, but it’s the one with the tamarind vodka)
Samosa tasting
Butter chicken
Garlic naan (OMG SO GOOD)

Response from the owner

Thank you for the wonderful review, Nhadya! We're delighted you enjoyed the samosa tasting, butter chicken, garlic naan, and cocktails — we'll pass your compliments to Tasnim for her great work behind the bar. Glad the decor and overall experience made your solo lunch special, and we appreciate that it was worth it to you. We look forward to welcoming you back to try more items from the menu.

Thank You! We are glad that you loved SAAR NYC. Came here for lunch as we were looking for a spot in theater district. It was pretty quiet coming in, and we were seated right away. We started with the lasooni kebab and prawn balchao for apps. The lasooni kebab was pretty good, but we did not enjoy the prawn at all. It had a very fishy taste and seemed slightly too undercooked for our liking.

For mains we shared the black pepper chicken and lamb rogan Josh with garlic naan on the side. Both curries were good. The lamb pieces were very tender and the black pepper chicken had good flavor and was spicy.

I absolutely LOVE Indian food and today, I had the privilege of eating at "Saar Indian Cuisine & Bar" for the first time and enjoyed every minute I was there from the moment I was greeted at the door by the very gracious, Prat!

The genuine welcome and warm smile let me know instantly that I had come to the right place. As I looked around, I was charmed by the ambiance, soothing background music and spaciousness of the restaurant...Yet still, the space felt comfortable and intimate. The lovely earth tone designs and colors were beautifully meshed together. Once I was seated and my order was taken, I began to anticipate the taste of the food. Omg! from the appetizer to the main course my palette was so delighted as I took my time enjoying every bite because both dishes were so delicious, well seasoned and just the right amount of spice that I like - I prefer spicy over mild. To find an Indian restaurant were the food is just as comforting and wonderful as the ambiance and staff is a blessing.

The staff had such wonderful energy and my waiters Shankar Abhi and Prat were attentive, yet not invasive, friendly, professional and provided wonderful service. I let them know that I will be coming back again and will spread the word!

If you are in the city/Times Square area and want to enjoy some delicious & authentic Indian food and excellent service, please come to SAAR'S INDIAN BISTRO on West 51st street!

Sincerely,

Julia Garrison 🌹 😊💃🏾

We’re especially glad you felt comfortable and well taken care of throughout your visit.

We’re happy to be a go-to spot for Indian food in Times Square, and your kind words truly motivate our team. Thank you for the recommendation—we can’t wait to welcome you back again soon!

My friend and I visited New York and were looking for Indian food after visiting the Rockefeller Center, and SAAR was the restaurant closest. We were so happy we went there; the food was so delicious and the servers were so sweet and respectful. The restaurant was very relaxed vibe for a nice evening dinner. I had the Rogan Josh dish and my friend had Kosha Mangsho with Naan bread, honestly it was so delicious.

So far, I have only had chai here. Which is great!

Usually, I stop here with a friend or two post lunch for a chai. Everyone I brought here loved the experience and chai.

Place seemed clean and well maintained.

I would love to try their lunch box, but it's a takeout option.

I recently dined at this Indian restaurant and it was truly an outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious every dish was full of authentic flavors, perfectly spiced, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the freshness and quality in every bite.

The mocktails were just as impressive! They were creative, refreshing, and perfectly balanced — easily some of the best I’ve ever had. They complemented the food so well and made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable.

What really stood out was the service. The staff was warm, attentive, and incredibly welcoming. They made sure we were comfortable, checked in at the right times, and gave great recommendations.

Happy hour (12:30-6pm everyday) at the bar review. The drinks were practically free! Well, $4 for beers and $5 for flavored margaritas. The drinks were large and flavorful - surprisingly good was the tamarind one which was flavored with Indian spices (like masala tea is flavored, although IDK exactly which spices). The tandoori chicken ($10, a drum and a thigh?) was juicy and delicious. The tasty chili paneer ($8) was a stir-fry with red and green peppers. The biggest disappointment was the deep fried chicken wings ($10, 3 PCs), which had barely any flavor and overpriced for what you get as most places are $2 +/- a wing. Off the regular menu, we ordered garlic chili naan ($6) which was fluffy and had a kick but I couldn’t discern any garlic; I would get the regular naan next time. The bar was half full on a Thursday 5pm visit. Feb 2026

The food is richly spicy (as in taste), perfectly balanced in terms of heat (spiciness), and elegantly presented! The ambiance is perfect - you feel relaxed and removed from the Times Square bustle! Sri and Prat were very attentive and patient in explaining the dishes and our options! Overall, it was a memorable dining experience - one that I’d love to experience again while different items on the menu!

Response from the owner

Sri and Prat will be thrilled to hear your praise for their attentive service. We look forward to welcoming you back to try more items from the menu.

Thank You! The restaurant was great, very clean , and cozy. Our servers were Prat and Shankar who were very pleasant and friendly . The food was placed and served in good time frame , on top of that it was so flavorful and delicious. Out leftovers were packed away with great care as well. We will definitely come back again.

We just happened to walk by this Resturant and decided to go in and try it out. We had the Lamb Chops and Lamb stew it was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. Lots of flavor and good size portions. We were very impressed with the service, atmosphere and attention to detail we received. We had the Kulfi Falooda for desert, what can I say, it was amazing. I will definitely be back. I made this place one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. I would really recomend to anyone looking for some really good Indian Cuisine!

There are a lot of great Indian restaurants in New York, but you can stop your search here because this is THE SPOT!

🥘Most importantly- the food is served hot/fresh with amazing flavors. They put effort into the presentation, which is always appreciated. The menu is substantial, but small enough to maintain a high standard. You can tell these are dishes from a Michelin-star chef because the flavors are so balanced, and not over-salted. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious!

💰It’s not a “budget” restaurant, but it also isn’t an insanely-priced cash grab, and they’re delivering an excellent value for your money.

🌺 The vibe is lovely. The colors and decor create a nice ambience without being overwhelming. They were playing modern songs at a comfortable volume- think Arijit Singh, AR Rahman, etc. Seating was comfortable without feeling crowded.

🤗 TBH, I often find service lacking in Indian restaurants, but the staff here was so friendly and attentive! They cleared our dishes and refilled our water as needed. They checked in throughout the meal, and genuinely seemed to care that we were enjoying ourselves. They make every table feel like a VIP table, and this creates an exceptional dining experience!

My friend took me to Saar for dinner and I love it. The restaurant is so beautiful. Their customers service is outstanding. The food was delicious and their cocktails were very good. We tried different dishes and all of them were good. Lots of vegetarian options. Alisha our waitress was magnificent. She recommended us very good appetizer and cocktails. She was friendly and attentive. All of the staff were very good. The owner came to check on us and made sure we were having a good time. If you like Indian food or are vegetarian you need to check this place. I definitely recommend it and we'll be back.
