Really enjoyed our meal at Maison Harlem. The fried oysters were crispy and flavorful, the ratatouille was fresh and comforting, and the croque monsieur was perfectly toasted with a rich, creamy béchamel, melted cheese, and savory ham. Everything was delicious. Cozy atmosphere and friendly service—we’ll definitely be back!

If you are looking for the best French bistro experience in Harlem, this is it. Maison Harlem delivers on every front: outstanding food, stellar service, and a fantastic ambiance. Every dish is full of flavor, and the interior has so much character. It’s the perfect spot to unwind, enjoy a great drink, and have an amazing meal. Truly a five-star experience all around!

I visited my daughter for 5 nights in NYC and she took me to Maison Harlem on the first day for lunch. I loved it so much that we went back two more times! The food is delicious (the pork chop dinner is a stand out) and the service was outstanding. The atmosphere is perfect, there is a lively bar area near the entrance and quieter seating for meals at the rear. Maison Harlem would be my local regular if I lived in the area.

My party and I spent Friday evening at Maison Harlem. Had a rsvp, they worked promptly to get us seating right away. Our server was Max he did an excellent job throughout the night. He explained the menu items, he was attentive, patient, kind, and accommodating throughout the night. He went above and beyond when serving the 12 of us dessert. The atmosphere was good. They food was on point. Calamari and mini burgers were delicious. The hanger steak and Daurade was excellent. A special thanks to Gabriella for organizing our arrangements, the menu and provide us with Max for the evening. She was very friendly and accommodating as well.

While looking at schools, we went for lunch before heading home. This place was recommended by the friend we went with and I was already excited knowing it was french food. The bar is right up front for those who just want to stop in and the restaurant is in the back. They had music playing and artwork all over the walls. It had a lot of character and vibrant colors. The waiters were very attentive and our water cups were never empty. We ordered the mushroom risotto, hanger steak, lamb burger, and quiche. The plating was spectacular to start. I was wary of the carrots in the risotto, as I usually don't love them cooked, but I went for it anyway. To my surprise, it was a great addition to balance the earthyness of the mushroom and tang of the balsamic glaze. I literally had to make a similar dish the next day because I was craving it. I tried my boyfriends steak and wow was that good too. He subbed the red wine sauce for peppercorn and got the potatoes au gratin. The steak was medium rare and so flavorful and tender. The peppercorn sauce was different than expected, as I believe it was a red peppercorn sauce, so it tasted slightly more vinegary - pairing great with the steak. The potatoes were good, but we wanted a little more cheese. I did not try the other dishes, but I was told they were great as well. Not pictured was the tart tatin. It cane with vanilla ice cream and was different than expected, but wonderful nonetheless. I will definitely come again if I move to this area.

Response from the owner

Hey Liana—thanks for swinging by during your school hunt! So thrilled you loved the vibe—the music, art, colors… that’s exactly what we go for. And wow, the mushroom risotto winning you over? That carrot twist is one of our little secrets—glad it clicked.
Hanger steak with peppercorn (yeah, it’s red peppercorn—bit of vinegar kick to cut the richness), lamb burger, quiche… sounds like you hit all the hits. Sorry the potatoes could’ve used extra cheese—we’ll pass that along. Tart tatin with ice cream? Chef’s proud of that one too.
Super happy service kept your glasses full—our crew’s all about that. If you end up nearby, we’d love to see you again… maybe even sneak you a vegetarian twist next time.
Thanks for the shout-out

It’s been a while since I made it into Maison. I used to live around the corner and would stop in often for a late night cocktail at the lively bar up front with the always-friendly bartender.

I came back tonight to enjoy dinner in the back dining area of the restaurant. We enjoyed a relaxed three courses starting with the frisée salad, fried oysters and escargot. I had the perfectly seasoned and prepared lamb burger for my main and my friend had the hangar steak. We finished it off with the crème brûlée and I had a glass of Sauternes dessert wine.

All in, will definitely be back as I recalled they also do lunch which is rare in the neighborhood. Loved the menus inside the classic albums. Nice touch!

Easy enough to get in with my wheelchair through the side entrance next to the outdoor seating.

Response from the owner
Hey Stinson—welcome back! So glad you made it in after all this time, and thanks for the glowing recap. Sounds like the frisée, oysters, escargot, lamb burger, hangar steak… and that crème brûlée with Sauternes? Chef’s kissing the air right now. 😄
Love hearing the bar’s still got that late-night energy—our bartender’s a legend, right? And yeah, those album menus are a little secret we keep for folks who notice.
Super happy the side entrance worked for you too—wheelchair access is something we quietly pride ourselves on. Lunch is definitely on the radar; we’ll keep it rolling.
Come by anytime.

Love this place! The atmosphere has an authentic French feel. Miranda, who was our waitress, was exceptionally attentive and accommodating to our needs. She gave us excellent food and drink recommendations that were right on target. We had the Sangria that is some of the best I have ever had. The muscles were stewed in a white wine sauce that was excellent.

I highly recommend Maison for anyone looking for good food and good vibes.

This place is great! Wonderful, friendly service and delicious food.

Only complaint: I was pretty surprised to see a soda is $6. That's not normal new york prices... Less than a year ago a soda was $4.50 here. It's certainly not a budget restaurant or anything but for some reason the soda price really stuck out to me...

Response from the owner

Thank you so much for your kind words, Emily! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed our brunch, the friendly service, and the overall vibe at Maison Harlem—it’s feedback like yours that keeps us going.
We appreciate you pointing out the soda pricing, and we’re sorry it caught you off guard. Like many spots in NYC, we’ve had to adjust a few menu items due to rising supplier costs over the past year, but we’ll definitely take your note to heart and review it. In the meantime, we’d love to have you back—next time, mention this review for a complimentary soda on us!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Best,
Romain & the Maison Harlem Team

Nice cute place. Serving up delicious French cuisine. Reasonably priced. Great for a Sunday brunch. Would have given 5 stars for the atmosphere but the back room on a sunny day had a lot of flies.

A hidden gem in Harlem! French cuisine with an extremely reasonable price. It looks like a bar but the restaurant is in the back. Their menu cover was old album covers. The food was delicious. We had the grant platter. Meat, cheese, apple slices were high quality and fresh, but one of the grapes on the plate was unfortunately molded. The lighting was so dark and we almost had it. For entrees, I had the duck leg confit, and my husband had the steak special. For me, the duck was a bit too salty, but it could a personal preference. The steak was so good - one of the best we have had, even better than most of the fancy steak houses we tried. The sauce in every dish was all so impressive - the shine, the flavor, and how each sauce compliments the meat item. I loved how they didn’t put too much ice in water, and I could actually enjoy my water. And the complimentary bread was also good - warm, crunchy outside and soft inside. The decor and furniture was a bit too old (the bench was shaky), but overall we liked the style and the vibe of the restaurant. We had a great time. We will definitely revisit next we are in Harlem.

Called and made a reservation with ease. Arrived early (party of 2) and was seated right away. Please note every table cleared their plates before they were taken away. Nothing was left on anyone’s plates. The food is this good.

Food
Everything was delicious
We got a spinach quiche and it melted in our mouths. Even the green salad that came with it was good.

We both got duck confit. My sister modified her side and I kept mine as is. Delicious! The duck was a good size, crispy, and well seasoned. Whatever sauce they used was great. The sides was delicious as well.

We also got the lamb sausage. It was okay. I wouldn’t order it again.

I’m going up have to come back to try a few other things on the menu.

Atmosphere
The space isn’t very big, but they make the most of it. I’d say it’s a snug atmosphere. When full it can get loud, but overall we felt comfortable at the table we were seated at.

Service
Service was good. Attentive and fulfilled all our requests.
