Still good for prepared foods, smoked salmon and healthier salads. Cheese selection is terrific. Baked goods are disappointing, but, I guess they cannot do everything well. There are so many wonderful bakery/cafes in the city so there are many options.

I live, eat and breathe Zabar’s but the staff at the cafe location (the ones making the food NOT the register attendant) are so extremely nasty and rude. Snappy to all customers, act like they are being bothered, and talk to you like you are an idiot. Trust me girls, I’m not stupid, don’t talk to me like it. I will remain loyal to the grocery portion but I’ll find another cafe without demeaning and rude staff. In a city full of options, customer service should be top notch.
Love this landmark institution! The food options are so varied, smoked fish selection is the best, take away choices incredible! I keep going regularly for the fresh toasted coffee. My husband loves the French Italian roast and I am addicted to the decaf espresso. Also be sure to check out the kitchenwares on the second floor- has everything you could possibly need.
Zabars is an Aladdin’s cave of world food, from cheese and smoked fish to coffee, breads, cakes and all sorts of tempting treats. The selection is fantastic and you could easily spend ages browsing and still not see everything.

We visited a few times while staying in Manhattan and loved the atmosphere. It feels like a proper New York institution, packed with choice and character.

We even bought a Zabars mug, which now holds my morning cuppa back in jolly old England. A great place to visit, whether you’re stocking up, grabbing something tasty, or just soaking up a bit of classic NYC food culture.
Legendary NYC deli, still serves very good coffee and traditional babkas, muffins, and even croissants, but menu selection feels dated. However you can sit inside
Totally love places like this! The smell, the people, the cheeses, ham, bread, kitchen stuff. Can spend hours in here. Bought some treats for picknick and to bring back to out hotel room. Totally recomend.
Lots of great options at this store! We absolutely love the Babkas and had to buy several (we’re out of town and had to stock up). We also bought some coffee and tea, and all of it was great! I was particularly intrigued by their black currant tea, but sadly it does not look like they sell it online. Hopefully someday they will! The store is a little cramped, but it wasn’t a problem.
If you’ve never been to Zabars, WHAT ARE YOU DOING???? The hand sliced nova is NOT the only thing they have. I highly recommend the new addition Cinnamon Babka bread pudding, absolutely TO DIE FOR.

The cafe is also a great quick eats spot with good coffee and amazing bagels. Highly recommend
Possibly my favourite stop every time I’m in NYC. The café side is consistently excellent - nova bagel is perfectly balanced and the chocolate babka is delicious. The adjoining deli and grocer is just as impressive, with an expansive curated range of produce and specialty items.
Run don’t walk to zabars!! Not exactly a hidden gem but an underrated one maybe? I don’t think many visitors know about it. A much better version of whole foods. Prices were very fair or even cheap for most things in NYC. The selection is amazing. Fresh prepared food and sandwiches. Great bagels. I can’t say enough good things about it. An institution for a reason! Support local and come check this place out. You will not be disappointed.
It was a great visit! The flavour of roasted coffee in the air was amazing! I really like the charm of Zabar’s.
I finally made it to Zabars, a NYC institution! I got some chocolate babka, which was one of the best babkas I've had. I also got some cinnamon rugelach, which was really tasty. Their house blend coffee was glorious and perfect on a cold winter's day. Zabars has so many high quality products and I can't wait to go back.
Chunky White fish salad is delicious. Salmon salad also incredible and fresh . Love with so many options available.
Zabar's was a perfect experience. The menu, the employee service, the option to eat inside or outside while people watching,
-all of it was great. Definitely worth a stop on a weekend or if you're visiting from out of town. Pictured here: the Classic Nova Bagel
Home away from home. A place for breakfast, lunch or anytime you want something nice and good to eat and drink.
I loved their bagels. Had an everything bagel toasted with plain cream cheese everyday. But there's much more. You can sandwiches, soups, muffins and all sort of yummy pastries, not to mention hot and cold beverages.
The staff is nice.
Definitely would recommend it.
