We really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere at this restaurant. It offers a wonderful sense of Yemeni culture and tradition while you dine. The bread is exceptionally fresh, the soup is rich and flavorful, and the salad is well prepared. The rice and meat dishes are cooked perfectly, and the meat tastes fresh and high quality. The customer service is also excellent. However, the prices are a bit on the higher side. We were able to find street parking nearby.
I recently dined at Yemen & Cafe in Brooklyn and, unfortunately, the experience fell well below expectations. Given the richness of Yemeni cuisine, I was looking forward to a flavorful and authentic meal, but what was served did not reflect that standard.

The chicken haneeth was notably undercooked and lacked the tenderness one would expect from a slow-cooked preparation. Similarly, the lamb in the mixed grill was overly tough and unusually dark, suggesting issues either with quality or preparation technique.

The lamb burma was the most disappointing—served in a vegetable and potato broth that had an unpleasant odor, raising concerns about freshness. At one point, the taste and texture were difficult to distinguish, which detracted significantly from the dish.

While the restaurant has potential, particularly given the cuisine it represents, there seems to be a need for better attention to ingredient quality, cooking methods, and consistency. This was much evident insuring the after taste phase. With improvements in these areas, it could offer a much better dining experience.

The utensils were either wet or had dry marks suggesting improper cleaning regimes. I had to ask for plastic utensils that were luckily packed in plastic.

Tea was no doubt great that gave us something to cherish.

No doubt the hardworking staff has the potential to improve on these aspects.

Wonderful thing about this place, its a hidden gem, always empty when we go but after we get in always fills up. We left with a few guest waiting for tables. Great service, great atmosphere, great food, great people. Yes this is Middle Eastern food Yemen at its finest. So add on for me is always the self serving tea, the naan bread , the salad and the serving size. I never left here with leftovers. Food too amazing to leave with a bag. My wife always takes food home. The staff are very attentive and accommodating. Happy i found this gem ! I have to try out their 5th ave location.
My favorite restaurant. I haven’t had anything from here that I didn’t like! My family lives 1.5 hours away and once or twice a year or when we have something to celebrate, I bring them food from here. Those are some of our best memories! Thank you!
What food!!!
Amazing amazing food that is very unique to find. We came all the way from Toronto for this.
Starting with the amazing soup, bread and the mouth watering Lamb Haneeth and lamb chops, it was all awesome.
The area is great as well with a masjid nearby and lots of arabic and muslim stores.
Lamb haneeth is a must try. Amazing texture and flavor. I love their lamb soup, very flavorful. Their chai tea, soup and bread are free. This is actually my favorite restaurant in Bayridge. The staff are very friendly and efficient.
And their bathrooms are super clean. This is the gem of Bayridge.
I went to a Yemeni restaurant for the first time, and the meat was incredibly tender and delicious. It was popular and crowded, so I had to wait a bit, but it was definitely worth it. I’d love to go again
My first time trying Yemen food and it was amazing. Delicious. Flavorful.
The service was great. I felt very welcomed. Thank you for the tea and the extra bread 🙏
Let’s be honest, you’re not going to find this place on some food influencers Insta reel, and that’s a wonderful thing! This place is for locals and not for hype. But let me tell you something, the locals know best.

The complementary lamb soup (maraq lahm) and flatbread are reason enough to come here. Simple, but rich in spices and lamb flavor.

Hummus is creamy and heavily weighted towards tahini. Everyone has their preference in regards to this ratio. I lean less heavy on the tahini side, but it was still tasty.

The lamb is well prepared and tasty.

The chai tea is not overly sweet with a strong black tea base and strong notes of cardamom.

Portions are large and I came away stuffed having only ordered one appetizer. I’ll definitely be back to try the lamb entres.
The food was so good! The lentil soup was probably the best I've ever tasted and the menu had both English and Arabic. The bread was soft and fresh and the fahsa was really delicious 😋. The lamb in it was very tender! Would recommend this place for sure. There is also a cool wall decoration that looks like an old city gate. The restaurant opened in 1986 and was the first Yemeni restaurant in the country!

Wow, thank you for such a wonderful and detailed review! 🌟hearing that it’s the best you’ve tasted truly means a lot to us. We’re also glad you appreciated our bilingual menu and the old city gate wall décor, as they’re part of sharing our culture and history since opening in 1986 as the first Yemeni restaurant in the country. We can’t wait to welcome you back for another delicious visit! 😋
– The Yemen Cafe Team
Went to this place for dinner on a weekend. The place sometime gets really crowded depending on the time. I ordered their Lamb haneeth and one of the lamb appetizer item. The food was served at a good temperature. Also the meat was juicy and tender. Also they served soup and bread for the customers. Food is really good. However I would suggested improve the atmosphere and ambience to give customer a good experience.
It was my first time trying Yemeni cuisine, and I believe I chose the right place!

We sampled several dishes, and I especially enjoyed the charcoal-grilled chicken—it was perfectly cooked with great flavor. The rice was also very tasty, and I loved the vegetables on top paired with the accompanying sauce. The hummus, bread, and chickpea dish were also fantastic. The tea provided a nice finish to the meal. I highly recommend giving this place a try if you’re in the area.
This place was recommended to me by my friend who is native to Egypt.

When he first brought me here, I felt like I was family.

There are no restaurants I can compare this place to.

You can only find a place like this outside of America.

If you are looking for the most authentic and real food experience for Hala and other types of dishes.

This is the place you have to go.
No frills place with hearty food and huge portions. We sat down and we’re immediately served amazing homemade bread and a rich broth. We had the lamb haneeth, which was enough for two people and leftovers. Friendly service. I will be back to try more.
