Really big Whole foods with 3 levels. There is a public restroom at level 2 as well.

This location has very long lines very often. I order groceries from WF, but come in to get a drink (most of which are watered downed anyway). I got my watered down drink and went to customer service to check out, because there was no line there. A young lady named Kim, short with long black hair, tells me ‘no you have to get in line.’ I ask again (and politely because I know it’s not the norm) because I’m not standing in a wrap around line for one item, I’d rather leave and go to a deli. After asking a second time she says ‘I already told you no,’ like she’s talking to a child in school. She has no customers to help at the moment, and it’s not really a favor to let someone spend their money and get out quickly. I just asked a manager, a woman with braids/locs, and she was very helpful. Clearly the customer service desk is not a regular checkout, but if you have wrap around the store lines, a rude response when you’re not actually assisting anyone is crazy. Any other time I’ve gone to WF (this location and others) to buy a single item while there are atypical lines, customer service checks me out, so it felt like Kim was acting in a personal way. I’ve been a cashier myself, ‘we really can’t’ ‘I understand but it’s just their rules’ - I’d say anything else before ‘I already told you’ to a customer who hasn’t been unpleasant with me.

I had a very unpleasant interaction at the checkout tonight (Tuesday) around 9:30 PM at register 5.<br><br>I was trying to use my Amazon Prime in-store code, and for some reason the code was not scanning properly. Instead of calmly helping troubleshoot the issue, the cashier immediately became dismissive and spoke to me in a very sharp, impatient tone. When I questioned why she was raising her voice at me, the interaction escalated further instead of being handled professionally.<br><br>What shocked me most was that she eventually turned away from me entirely, refused to assist further, and even refused to call a manager when requested. I was told to “just pay” or “go elsewhere,” which felt completely inappropriate for a normal customer-service interaction over a technical issue.<br><br>Thankfully, another employee stepped in and handled the situation professionally within minutes. He calmly helped troubleshoot the issue, suggested using my phone number instead of the barcode, and the Prime account worked immediately. That employee completely changed the experience simply by being helpful, patient, and solution-oriented.<br><br>I understand customer service can be exhausting, especially during busy shifts, but being dismissive, refusing to help, and physically turning away from a customer is not acceptable behavior.

Very hostile experience with staff this morning. I came in to grab the quickest to-go lunch possible right before 11:00, got everything to the self checkout in a matter of a few minutes, and was shocked by how rudely I was handled from there.<br><br>First, the staffmember watching the checkout stations came over, took a box of deli food out of my bag, and made me prove to him that I wasn't touching it when it was on the scale. No "hello" no "do you mind if I check that this scanned correctly?" just a man suddenly in my personal space, digging through my groceries. We finally got on the same page that the box in question was a barcode scan from the deli, not one of the other hot food boxes. I immediately helped him ensure it was re-scanned correctly. Still, he was breathing down my neck the entire time and kept speaking to me like I was a child.<br><br>Next, I got as far as payment, selected card, and swiped my phone. My phone buzzed and showed the blue check mark, so I got everything back into a bag and started to head downstairs.<br><br>The same man tried to block my way and kept repeating that I needed to pay. I showed him the wallet app on my phone, thinking the confusion was that I hadn't used a card. He refused to listen and kept speaking over me. By the time I finally got through to him that I had just used tap to pay (or at least tried to), it was clear that the issue was the check out station. It was still open to the payment screen, and hadn't charged my card. I re-tapped, got the same confirmation I had already just seen, and the man stops me AGAIN to tell me I need to wait and take my receipt.<br><br>I took it and left, but I'm honestly stunned to be on the receiving end of such suspicion and rudeness from a store I've loved and poured my money into for so long. I left what was supposed to be a 5 minute grab & go lunch stop nearly 20 minutes later, late for work, feeling completely disrespected and humiliated.<br><br>I am a working professional, paying customer, and Union Square neighbor, not some teenage delinquent. I am frankly appalled at how I was treated today. This is well below the level of courtesy I've come to expect from WF. Currently looking into getting household groceries elsewhere for now, and I certainly won't be back for any future lunches.

Not a great shopping experience when you're being followed by security. I just dropped in two get a few items and this security guard followed me in the cereal aisle and other places on the lower level.

It’s ok. More organized and cleaner than the others in NYC. Don’t buy the Whole Foods brand though. Always such a disappointing experience. They shouldn’t be allowed to make food. But otherwise decent store, decent lay out

I shop here frequently... usually great although if you go at peak times it's a bit of madhouse. So just be mentally prepared for that. Great selection and great prepared food section.

Thank you for the 5-star review, Carol! We appreciate your patronage and feedback and hope to see you again real soon.

Whole Foods at Union Square is exactly what you’d expect from a flagship Manhattan location — big, busy, and packed with options. The selection is massive: fresh produce, specialty and organic items, great bakery section, and one of the better prepared food setups if you’re grabbing lunch or dinner on the go.

Response from the owner

We appreciate your glowing review, Maxim! Delivering top-notch products and service is what we strive for, and your feedback makes it all worthwhile. We hope to see you again soon!

it’s a nice whole foods but the hot bar lacks variety and just lacks in honestly everything. the hot bar is almost never stocked fully and when it is sometimes it’s even cold. their dining area is big and spacious with lots of seating though

Usually, I would stop here on my way home (after work) to buy food. The 2nd floor area has a great selection of pre-made food that it’s tasty & at a great price value. Some recommendations: sushi, curried chicken, vegetables area, wraps, salmon, sautéed green beans, crispy fried chicken, etc. If you are cooking home or snacking, they have good options too. Some favorite are: the cheeses, the nuts (Valencia almonds, caramelized walnuts, etc.), the jalapeño chips, chicken bacon, fresh fruits, the nuts milks (cashew milk, hazelnut milk) & others.

During a very busy Saturday, the stellar team was able to address my questions and provide knowledgeable, dependable, and responsive customer service. A few of the standouts are: Joelle, Anthony, Bryon, and Lissette.

Response from the owner

I really only go here for the baked goods so I'll just speak on that. I love the people that work at the bakery. They're all always so kind, patient and really good at their jobs. They'll write "Happy Birthday" or really anything on cakes for free and are attentive to many requests. All the goods there are so incredibly delicious, including their large selection of sourdough bread! I've become a huge fan of whole foods sourdough. If you like sourdough I recommend their San Francisco loaf! But all in all I highly recommend getting anything from over there, it's all worth it!<br><br>Lastly, whole foods is an expensive store, and that applies to the bakery too but I think a lot of their goods are worth the price. The breads, I'm telling you is a bear kept secret. You can get s whole sliced loaf for less than 6 dollars.

Deli service is appalling. Plenty of staff walking around, but none tending to customers, despite making eye contact and noticing there is a line. The singular employee slicing meat even asked them to help and they didn’t.

Response from the owner

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback, Ben. We sincerely apologize for your experience and have formally documented your concerns to address them with our team. We aim to improve your next shopping experience with us.

Very good Whole Foods Market in front of the famous Union Square Park. Well stacked, organized, and has a good salad 🥗 and hot food 🥘 section. I had a feeling that some items in this particular store are little bit more expensive than that of Hudson. The security in this store is a bit hiked.

Response from the owner

Thank you for shopping with us, we hope to see you again soon!

One of my favorite Whole Foods stores. They have a lot of organic varieties. Our family likes them very much. My kids only like the beef and milk here.

Response from the owner
