A bit over priced for what I would like to pay for a hamburger patty, toasted bun, and two slices of cheese with a pickle, and a spoonful of coleslaw.
Service was a bit slow and the atmosphere was a bit quiet. Almost like the diner in the movie “Baby Driver”.
Overall, an okay experience in the Village area.

Response from the owner

Thank you for your review. We’re sorry that parts of your visit felt underwhelming. We value your comments regarding service, atmosphere, and overall experience, and we will work with our team to improve guest satisfaction moving forward.

I had a deeply disappointing experience at this diner. I arrived earlier than my friend and explicitly offered to order our meals immediately so that I could secure a table. Despite my willingness to be a paying customer, I was refused seating. It was distressing to watch staff repeatedly offer tables to other parties—specifically couples—immediately after denying me one. As a young woman, I felt unfairly singled out and unwelcome. I hope management reviews their door policy to ensure all patrons are treated with basic respect and equality, regardless of who they are.

Response from the owner

We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience. Creating a welcoming environment for all guests is very important to us. We appreciate your feedback and will review our seating practices and staff approach to ensure better treatment for every customer.

The Waverly Diner is my office away from the office and my home away from home. Now that I no longer live in the city, I still meet my tenants, brokers and associates at the Waverly Diner when I come up to New York each month to check on my six historic townhouses in the West Village. The food may be your typical diner fare, but the staff is A++ and they’re there and they care!

Response from the owner

Thank you, Rosalind! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoy your visits and appreciate our staff. We appreciate your support, and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit!

I sort of stumbled into this place coming off the subway and needing to run some errands in the area before going to a concert; I was in a hurry, so I was glad to be able to stop in for a caffe latte and quick bite.
The service was v courteous, but the food and pries are quite subpar: for $15, before tip, I got a small caffe latte and a cheese danish that looked fresh but could have doubled as a doorstop.
I've passed by on many occasions, though I've never ordered anything; what I saw other patrons eating didn't look appetitising, though.

Response from the owner

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry your experience didn’t meet expectations and appreciate your honesty. Your comments regarding quality and portion sizes are important, and we’ll review them carefully. We hope you’ll consider giving us another chance to provide a better and more satisfying visit in the future.

The omelets and chocolate chip pancakes were absolutely tasty. The service was fast and still great even during Thanksgiving Day rush as one of the few diners in the area that is open.

Response from the owner

Thank you, Zuham! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed your meal and that the service made your visit smooth. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for another enjoyable visit!

Classic diner that’s been around since the 60s and still standing!!! Had the steak and eggs, steak could have used a little more flavor but none the less it was delicious!

Response from the owner

The restaurant runs with precision that's rare to find. Waverly Diner holds my loyalty through quality cuisine and employee service. They deliver taste and service without demanding excessive payment. You'll struggle to find comparable dishes around the city. I expect to return to this spot.

Response from the owner

Thank you, Juan! We’re thrilled to hear you appreciate the quality and care our team puts into every visit. It means a lot to know we’ve earned your loyalty, and we look forward to welcoming you back for more enjoyable experiences!

Came here for my first meal in New York and food was great. Don’t normally do sausage during breakfast but was seasoned so well. Servers were always checking up on me. All around great place!

Response from the owner

A West Village Gem

This was honestly the cutest place I’ve ever been to! As tourists, it still felt like a local spot—which made the experience that much better. Getting to soak in the West Village vibe while sitting in this small, cozy diner was everything. It felt intimate, classic, and a little like having breakfast with old money regulars—such a fun, unexpected vibe!

We had fancy cereal, the most delicious cheese omelet, and hands down the best apple juice I’ve ever tasted. Everything just hit the spot. It was a little on the pricey side, but for the quality and experience, it was totally worth it.

I felt safe, happy, and had a truly special birthday breakfast. Easily one of my favorite moments of the trip. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a cozy, authentic New York breakfast moment.

Response from the owner

Thank you so much for your heartfelt review—hearing that our cozy diner became such a memorable part of your trip truly means the world to us!

Great service and the atmosphere is just what you're looking for if you enjoy diners. The pancakes I got weren't as fluffy or flavorful as I'm used to but it was still a decent meal regardless. A bit pricey but to be fair, it's NYC, not Pittsburgh (my meal of pancakes, bacon and orange juice would've been like $13 at a diner in downtown Pittsburgh - it was about $25 here).

Response from the owner

Thank you for your wonderful review! We're glad you enjoyed the service and atmosphere. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to serving you again!

Lovely authentic diner in a great location. The food was perfect and the service was excellent. Friendly & welcoming, kid friendly, good for couples, families or friends. The waffles were nice and light.

Response from the owner

Thank you for the lovely review! It means the world to us that you appreciated the atmosphere and service. We’re delighted you found the waffles to your liking. We hope to see you back soon, whether for a family meal or a cozy time with friends!

The diner definitely fits the outward and inwards appearance of what you want it to be. Very traditional feel with the small booths steel dividers, and wood walls.
But the staff really bought the experience down. The vibe was incredibly low. Not only were they uninterested and uninviting upon ours, and anyone else’s arrival. You felt like anything asked was an extreme inconvenience. Rolling of eyes, tuting and a general dismissing deminor.

The food we had was actually rather nice. The Waverley melt was nice and shared with onion rings and drinks.
Drinks wise was below average, the Arnold Parlmer came in a milkshake glass with no straw, which I requested but was only diluted tea, no soda. And the chocolate milkshake was room temperature not cold.

Overall a disappointing experience and wouldn’t recommend or return.

Response from the owner

This review is difficult for me, because I really thought it was going to be 5 starts all across by the way everything was going; until my & tasted the food(awful). Presentation really good 👍, quality, lack of flavor, toughness, and the list goes on to the point that we literally just packed all up. I personally felt that it was out outrageous the bill was almost $90. 2 kids meals, 1 waayyyy over cooked discussing, that is why I didn't continue to eat them cocktail shrimp, a cup of "soup" (more like porridge), and the appetizers sampler (that my kids who usually love that, didn't want).
We, left and turned right straight to Papayas Restaurant. They got some Hotdogs 🌭 combo's and hamburgers and said that it tastes better. I wanted to cry inside of me.

But, on the positive side of the restaurant. Our server, I wish I could have gotten his name, he was so nice and attentive, as matters of fact All the server. I felt welcomed, despite them being full and busy when first entered, and the bathroom is clean and spacious, also the ambitious is nice. A bit pricey, but keep in mind the area you are in as well.

Response from the owner

We apologize for the disappointment you experienced. Your feedback is important to us, and we appreciate your kind words about our servers and the ambiance of our restaurant. A true hometown experience. My waiter had been working here for 33 years! So great that this place has survived everything throughout the years. The ambiance and decor is so great to see, and the food is delicious. It is almost like stepping back in time a bit, great place to grab a bite after drinks, check it out.
