Virgil’s Real BBQ is a fantastic spot for anyone craving authentic American barbecue in NYC. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with live music adding a lively touch to the dining experience. The classic BBQ-style décor creates a genuine Southern barbecue vibe.

The portions are incredibly generous, with tons of juicy, flavorful meat served on each plate. Considering the quality and quantity of food, the prices are very reasonable for New York City. On top of that, the service was exceptionally friendly and attentive.

Virgil’s Real BBQ was definitely worth the visit.

If you’re in Times Square and looking for a fun night out, Virgil’s BBQ is the place to go, especially if Nikki is behind the bar! She was hands-down the BEST bartender. The drinks were delicious and definitely got the job done 😂 but the real highlight was Nikki’s energy and entertainment. We can’t wait to come back!

Live country music was fun on a Friday night. Food was delicious, except the Mac and cheese. It was the worst I've tasted. Did you know Carmines and Virgils are part of the same franchise? I recommend making reservations as it gets busy. I definitely would revisit.

Came here with my Autistic brother after a Broadway show. Let me tell you a quick wrap up of why you need to go here. We made a reservation but they were accommodating and allowed us to be taken early. The first question I was asked at the table was “do you have any allergies”. This hit home as I have too many. Not only did Natalie, my waitress, let me know what not to order but send over a manager right after to confirm. My brother moves around a lot and they said not to worry and to let him take his time and enjoy the food. George came over (another waiter) and advices we get the combo and try the chicken wings.
Well.. this did not disappoint! The chicken wings are amazing, the brisket is as tender and full of flavor as possible, the ribs are just right with a clean bbq taste. Refills are free, extra home made BBQ sauces on the table, and the sides are incredible. Had the sweet potato tots, fries, bridal sprouts and the biscuit… oh man the biscuit! Do yourself the favor and visit this location.
Listen Money doesn’t buy happiness but meals like this do.

The Pig Out for two provided a little bit of everything; brisket, pulled pork, 1/4 chicken, pork ribs and jalapeño cheddar sausage with choice of two sides. We opted for the Brussel sprouts and sweet potato tater tots. Also included were two pickled cucumber slices and two corn muffins. BBQ sauce options were on the aide and included Mild BBQ, Jalapeño Mango and Hot BBQ. Four star rating on food as we found the pulled pork and pork ribs to be a tad dry for our taste and compared to other bbq experiences. Nonetheless, still worth a visit! Great atmosphere and amazing service.

All I can say is that I’m full and pleased!!! Here with my mother love and got some excellent service from our waiter Tino & shileine who greeted us! The hospitality and food was/is worth the visit! We had corn bread as an appetizer & The Pig Out for 2! Thank you Tino for the suggestion my brother! I felt the warmth as soon as I met him and Shileine. Thank you for the service! I will definitely recommend if ppl ask where to go for some Southern hospitality & bbq in NYC

Absolutely amazing local bar in such a touristy area. Texas based food and drinks. Service is just all the way good. Friday night is music night with good old country music!! For food, I recommend chicken wing for starter and burger is a good try. Half chicken is a bit dry but still tasty with the bbq source. Bartenders and staff are very welcoming and friendly. Gonna come here more often to try out rest of the food!!

Response from the owner

Virgil’s was an absolute treat. The brisket alone could probably broker world peace, and the rest of the meal followed suit. Service was friendly in that effortless, ‘we’ve-got-you’ way, and the cocktails were spot‑on. The Olympic coverage on the TVs made for a fun backdrop, nothing like great BBQ with a side of elite athleticism. The live music, however, was… enthusiastic. A bit louder and a bit less my taste than I’d hoped, but thankfully everything else more than made up for it.

Response from the owner

Thank you for such a fantastic and thoughtful review! We love the idea that our brisket could broker world peace—that might be the best compliment it’s received yet. We’re so glad you enjoyed the food, cocktails, and the easygoing hospitality from our team.
It’s also great to hear that the Olympic coverage added to the atmosphere during your visit. We appreciate your note about the live music as well. It can definitely bring a lot of energy to the room, and your feedback helps us keep the balance right for everyone.
Thanks again for spending your evening with us. We hope to welcome you back soon for more BBQ, cocktails, and maybe a slightly calmer soundtrack!

Went there with a colleague for a dinner. We wanted to eat ribs, brisket and pulled pork. And they had really good options there. Good quality, very friendly staff. No high-level expensive steakhouse, but a nice place to enjoy a dinner with tasty barbecue options. Nice flair.

Virgil’s BBQ absolutely delivered. From the moment I walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive, which set the tone right away. I ordered the steak and eggs, and the food came out impressively fast.

The portions were huge for the price, easily one of the best values I’ve had for a brunch-style meal. The steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavor, paired with fluffy eggs, crispy potatoes, and toast—everything tasted amazing and felt hearty and satisfying.

The atmosphere really adds to the experience: a laid-back Southern vibe with plenty of TVs around, making it a great spot whether you’re there to eat, hang out, or catch a game. Overall, great food, generous servings, fast service, and friendly staff. I’d definitely come back and highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.

We were able to get a table without a reservation. The person at reception was lovely, and the waiter was fantastic, welcoming us with professionalism and humor and advising us on our menu choices. The atmosphere is great, and the food is delicious. We had a wonderful time. A place we will definitely return to. Thank you to all the staff, you are amazing!

Food was good, but not amazing. Brisket, ribs and chicken were all a bit dry.

Service was good (although a bit slow) but the portion sizes are very large.

I'd give them another shot, but the dry meat concerns me.

This location is great! Our server- 💜Georgia 🧡- is friendly, attentive and professional. Georgia went above & beyond in her service. She knows her job well and she loves doing it. ALL of the staff is friendly and welcoming, even when you speak to them on the phone.
ALL of our food 😋 was super delicious. We got the full rack of Memphis ribs with mac & cheese, brussel sprouts, and sweet potato tots. Plus for dessert we had fruit cobbler- Yum. Our drinks-(Fall off the porch) were made just right ✅️. You MUST eat here !!!! 😉.

We have been dedicated patrons of Virgil's Real BBQ since 1998, and after all these years, the food remains consistently outstanding. This restaurant has stood the test of time for a reason—they simply do BBQ right.
The star of the menu, in our opinion, is the Pulled Pork Sandwich; it is absolutely the stuff that dreams are made of! The meat is tender, smoky, and perfectly sauced.
Beyond the incredible food, the staff is excellent, always providing great service, and the entire venue is very clean. If you are craving authentic, high-quality barbecue, there is nowhere else you should go. Virgil's is the gold standard.

From the moment we walked in, the service was above and beyond—starting with the hostess. We asked to sit at the bar, but there weren’t two seats together. The hostess went out of her way to ask a guest if she wouldn’t mind moving over, and she graciously did. I eat out often and have never seen anyone take that kind of initiative before.

Our bartender provided excellent service, consistently checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. We also met the manager and had a great conversation with him. Oh, and the food was perfect—with plenty of leftovers to take home!

Apologies that I don’t have anyone’s names. I had noted them in an email to myself but can’t seem to find it.
