I had a wonderful dinner at The Smith in Midtown last weekend. This bustling American brasserie has a lively, welcoming vibe with its big windows, cozy booths, and classic New York energy that makes it perfect for both casual nights and special occasions.
I ordered the truffle mac and cheese as a starter — rich, creamy, and absolutely addictive. For my main, the seared salmon with quinoa and roasted vegetables was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The portions are generous, and everything tasted homemade. Our server was friendly, attentive, and full of great recommendations.
It’s a solid spot for reliable comfort food with a bit of upscale flair. Prices are reasonable for the quality and location. I highly recommend The Smith if you want a warm, satisfying meal in a great atmosphere. Five stars.
Helpful tips: Make a reservation, especially for brunch or weekend dinners, as it fills up fast. The happy hour is a great deal for drinks and snacks. Portions are large, so consider sharing appetizers. If you're in a group, the big booths are comfortable. Subway access is easy, and it’s convenient for nearby theaters or shopping.

Beautiful brunch spot with such a cozy atmosphere. The pancakes were fluffy and perfectly sweet, and the avocado toast was super fresh. Loved the aesthetic interior and relaxing vibe — definitely a place I’d come back to for a slow weekend brunch.
I had a phenomenal experience for brunch at The Smith. The service was fantastic, the drinks were amazing, and the food was great! César was beyond kind and accommodating to everything I needed. I can’t wait to come back soon!

We are so glad you enjoyed your experience with us and look forward to hosting you again in the future!
I’m giving this two stars because while the atmosphere was great, the food and drinks really missed the mark for me. The outdoor seating is a highlight and the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, so no complaints there.

That said, the food was disappointing. I ordered the truffle gnocchi and it didn’t resemble gnocchi at all. It tasted more like fried bread with little to no flavor, and I couldn’t taste any truffle.

The drinks were just as underwhelming. I ordered a simple tequila with pineapple juice, but it tasted like straight tequila. It didn’t seem like the juice was added or mixed properly.

Overall, it’s a nice spot for the vibe, especially if you want to sit outside, but I wouldn’t go back for the food or drinks.

The Smith is one of those New York restaurants that does everything well and never gets enough credit for it. The menu is American brasserie with enough range to satisfy anyone at the table. The mac and cheese is rich and perfectly baked with a crispy top. The burger is thick juicy and served on a brioche bun that holds up. The brunch is one of the best in Midtown with a Bloody Mary bar that lets you build exactly what you want and French toast that is thick custardy and dusted with powdered sugar. The dining room is always full which tells you everything about consistency. People do not come back to restaurants that disappoint and The Smith's regulars are loyal for a reason. The cocktail list is solid and well-priced for Midtown which is saying something in a neighborhood that overcharges for everything. The service is friendly and efficient they get you in take care of you and let you enjoy the meal without rushing or ignoring. The Smith has multiple locations around the city and each one delivers the same standard which is harder to maintain than people realize. I come here for work lunches weekend brunches and casual dinners when I want good food without the production. It is reliable it is good and it respects your time and money. In New York that combination is rarer than it should be.
Someone I met in KY recommended it. I was wondering how people were there waiting for it to open before 9am. Food was a solid 10. I had the Eggs Benedict. The matcha I had has been the best so far. Just Perfect!
The place was nice, staff was friendly, food was very good. However, we specifically asked to not be rushed, we wanted to take our time. We were told that was no problem. The food came out minutes after we ordered it. We were rushed. I'm just tired of always being as a table to turn over for the next.
First, Zack G did a wonderful job serving our group, friendly and quite helpful. Our meals were nicely done as well. I ordered the spicy shrimp scampi and it was very flavorfulnand I appreciated that it actually had a nice spice to it. Only thought I'd offer is with such a nice looking bar would have preferred a martini with a little more substance - it was average. All in all, we had a great experience.
Excellent holiday decor inside
Warm welcoming and amicable service and excellent food for Sunday brunch
It was raining in the city that day so as a medium group we were able to find seating after a small wait - maybe got lucky there
We ordered a lot of drinks - our favourite was the mango and pineapple mimosas
The grapefruit mimosa was ok as well not bad
They have freshly squeezed orange juice which is great for non drinkers and kids too
As a medium group we ordered a lot of different food too and they have many dishes to write about
I personally ordered the eggs and ham Benedict and that was really great - the seasoned home fries were so good that my kid ordered a separate side of those
The kids loved the French toast with vanilla beans even though we didn’t enjoy that dish much - it came with bananas on top with syrup
Kids also really enjoyed the Mac and cheese - it tasted high quality
Also tried jalapeño grits which was different and good
One of the highlight was the shrimp and grits which came in a cast iron hot pan so the flavor and heat was there even after 20 min
This dish was unique and tasty where the grits and eggs were cooked well and the shrimp was semi cooked
The ranchero scramble also had a great taste
One of our friends ordered a kale and quinoa salad and was enjoyable
Will be definitely coming back here
We went for dinner and ordered shrimp linguines salmon and beef toast and wow. Probably the tastiest dinner we had in NYC. Was absolutely delicious and so flavoursome. Who doesn’t love fries and they definitely delivered
Excellent brunch spot! We loved the fresh-squeezed orange juice, and both of our dishes hit the spot. The burger was juicy and flavorful, and the eggs, bacon, and potato pancake were cooked perfectly. Lively atmosphere and a solid choice for a relaxed weekend brunch.
We came at around 9:30pm, and just did an appetizer night. We did The Grand which is an oyster tower with shrimp and spicy tuna tartare. It was amazing and great for 2ppl to share.

Then we did the Burrata, and Chicken Nuggets. The BREAD for the burrata was so great and warm, and the burrata itself was very milky.

Finally, living up to expectations so far - the Chicken nuggets were fresh, soft and perfectly breaded. Definitely not some generic frozen stuff.

Great first time experience here. Also the wine and cocktails are great.
Great food! The burger was awesome. Was on the smaller size but still worth it. Their pot of mussels was good as well. Waitress was very helpful with question on menu and her recommendation for meals and drinks. She was spot on!👏🏾👏🏾
Amazing customer service! Shoutout to the waiter who was so organized and announced his every move: drinks, appetizers, entrees, confirm if we needed anything else and then the bill! He was so determined! The restaurant was full and just with our group, the outdoor dining was completely full! The attention, ambiance, food and service were all perfect! I chose pasta and it was exactly how I requested it to be! Definitely a place you visit more than once!
We came here on a Monday for a late lunch, and there was hardly anyone here, so it was nice and quiet. Service was very good! The food was good, but nothing exceptional. We had the half chicken sausage + eggs and the Smith Eggs Benedict. We also had a latte and cappuccino, which were also good, fairly standard.
