Great local village place for live music and pretty cheap drinks. Medium sized crowd at happy hour that grew to packed standing room only by 8:00 p.m. Live music until maybe 1:00 in the morning? Loved it. We had a good time. In fact everyone seemed to be having a great time. Bartenders were fast and on point. And they let me change the channels of the TV to put the NHL playoffs on in the background which was a bonus.

Confession. I've been here quite a few times. Finally decided they deserved a review.

Response from the owner

Matt, glad you finally hit that review button — it was worth the wait! You've described The Red Lion about as well as anyone could — live music, good drinks, a room that fills up as the night goes on, and bartenders who know what they're doing. And we'll always switch a TV over for the hockey when someone asks. Thanks for being a regular, and see you at the next one.
The Red Lion Team

Such a fun night 💃

live band (Group B?? if I remember right) was insanely talented—their song choices were 💯!! Food was solid too, especially the quesadillas and the portions are big 🌮 best place to have fun with friends/fam & just jam to music 💃

Response from the owner

That sounds like a proper night out! Glad the band had you on your feet and that the quesadillas hit the spot, big portions are kind of our thing. Live music and good food with your people is what The Red Lion is all about. Next time you're in Greenwich Village, come back and catch another show. The Red Lion Team

Just OK place. The pretzel was good but my wings wasn't enough cook. We went for live music at 7 but there was a basketball game so no music before midnight.

Response from the owner

Thanks for the honest feedback, Mathieu. Sorry to hear the wings weren't cooked to the standard we aim for, that's not the experience we want anyone to have, and we'll make sure the kitchen team is aware. On the music front, there are occasional nights where scheduling shifts due to big sporting events, and we understand that's frustrating when you've come specifically for live music. We usually have bands on from early evening, so hopefully next time the timing works out better. Appreciate you giving us the feedback, and we'd love the chance to get it right on your next visit to The Red Lion.
The Red Lion Team
Came for a drink on a Monday and was surprised to see a band setting up. Turns out they have live music every night of the week, which is impressive!

The happy hour (until 7pm) is quite a good deal for drinks (including: mule, margarita, red ale or lager). They also do 2 appetizers for $20 during happy hour.

However, it feels like a trap when it's not clear what you'll get: the menu says 3 tacos per order, yet we received 2 each. Apparently that's what comes with the happy hour deal, but that it wasn't mentioned anywhere.

Response from the owner

Thanks for the detailed review, Mattho! We're glad the live music caught you off guard in the best way — having bands every night of the week is something we're proud of at The Red Lion. And glad the happy hour drinks hit the spot too.
You raise a fair point about the taco portion during happy hour. That's useful feedback, and we'll look at making that clearer on the menu so there's no confusion between the regular and happy hour servings. We want the deal to feel like a good one from start to finish.
Appreciate you stopping by on a Monday of all nights, hope to see you back soon. Cheers, The Red Lion Team

Was showing a friend the area in the West village and telling her some history of different locations. She came from near Albany for a few days and it was all new to her. We popped into Red Lion a very reputable location and a neighborhood staple. Attentive staff with live music on a decent sized stage. Great food we plit "chicken ceaser wrap" and the wings. Phenomenal food and she said it was the best chicken ceaser wrap she has had In HER LIFE. Shout out to Red Lion.

Response from the owner

Thanks so much for the excellent 5 star review Joe, we really appreciate such great feedback. We are always working hard to bring the best possible bar experience to NYC, so we are chuffed you and your friends from Albany had such a great time, and that we gave them a truly unique NYC time. We should rebrand as the home of the Chicken Caesar wrap, really appreciate the brilliant feedback on our food. Drop by again soon with the friends for more of the best live music in NYC and top notch caesar wraps. Cheers, The Red Lion team

The bar itself is amazing. Great happy hour, live music every day, food is good too for a pub. We enjoyed it here three days in a row.
Sadly I have to give 2 stars (would have been 1 if everything else wasn’t so amazing) since we got scammed there by an employee.
It is clearly a bar full of Americans and locals. A few tourists like us as well. We sadly got overcharged by a young employee at the bar. We didn’t know better because we previously only ordered during happy hour. And only after we ordered the drinks again and got charged way less we realized.

When I asked how much she hesitated a bit and charged us 20$ instead of 16$ for 2 beers. I obviously paid the 20$ + a tip. Afterwards we were only charged 16$ with another employee.

If we weren’t tourist I would have made a fuzz about it but it was our last day in New York and we just wanted a chill night.

Other than that it’s a great bar, just check prices beforehand if you are a tourists :/

Response from the owner

We're truly sorry to hear about your experience with being overcharged during your visit. It's incredibly disheartening to learn that this incident overshadowed the many positive aspects you enjoyed, especially after you loved our bar, happy hour, live music, and food enough to visit three days in a row. We pride ourselves on transparent pricing and fair service for all our guests, whether local or visiting. We take your feedback very seriously and will be looking into this matter to ensure our team upholds the high standards we expect. We hope you'll consider giving us another chance to provide you with an entirely positive and worry-free experience the next time you're in New York. If you can email info@redlionnyc.com and we can get to the bottom of this. Cheers, Red Lion team

Solid spot to hang out and the live music is indeed a vibe. Cheap drinks, not much else on the menu going for it.

Response from the owner

Don’t miss this place for a fun night out! The place is like an English pub with a long bar and live music for dancing! Best thing: no cover! Great atmosphere! Enjoy!
And the owner added a great feedback!
I am back here a few nights later! And same great atmosphere and good Stella draft! Congrats!!! 🎉🎊😍

Response from the owner

The Red Lion is a vibrant Irish-style pub located at 151 Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village, New York City. Known for its lively atmosphere and nightly live music, it’s a popular spot for both locals and visitors seeking entertainment and a casual dining experience.

⸻

🎶 Live Music & Atmosphere

The Red Lion features live music every night, with up to three different bands performing covers of popular songs ranging from classic rock to contemporary hits. The venue boasts a spacious dance floor, encouraging patrons to dance and enjoy the performances. Music typically starts around 7 PM and continues until closing at 4 AM.

⸻

🍽️ Food & Drinks

The pub offers a menu of standard bar fare, including wings, fries, and pizza. While the food is generally considered decent, it’s the drinks and music that draw the crowds. Happy hour specials and reasonably priced beers make it an attractive spot for casual gatherings.

Great bar to meet people and to have a good time with friends. Bartender at the bar was very friendly. During the daytime there is no cover, then in the night they have a cover (not expensive) with amazing live music.
This is a bar that I will repeat again!
Fabulous location on Bleecker St where you can eventually go to a different pizza place, another bar or restaurant.
Highly recommend if you want to spend a good time!

A great place to experience live blue music. The pub has a long history of hosting live music, and the atmosphere is always electric. The bands that play there are top-notch. It's a great place to let loose and have a good time.

Nice bar located in the Soho. Good variety of draft beers and food. Good bands playing at the place - but we needed to pay $5 each to enter, which we were not expecting. The place is crowded and you may face a line depending on the day and time you get there.
