The Grey Dog - Union Square

Overall a pleasant experience, but one thing was honestly absurd: we were a group of 7 and were told it wasn’t possible to split the bill. When we asked about it, the response was basically “you can just pay each other back later.” Seriously? In 2026, hearing something like that at a place handling large groups is pretty ridiculous. It creates unnecessary inconvenience at the end of the night. A shame, because aside from that, the experience would have been much better.

Not sure how I hadn’t been here yet for brunch. Cute spot with friendly and quick service, and the food we tried was excellent. We split the chicken salad melt and the salted caramel pancakes, which was the perfect savory-sweet combo we were looking for. Only downside is they are Michigan fans… even so, I’ll still come back. WE ARE!!

We dropped by this spot today for a quick break while walking around the Union Square area and had a really pleasant experience. We ordered a couple of coffees, and they were excellent - perfectly brewed, smooth, and served at the ideal temperature.<br><br>The highlight of our visit, however, was definitely the staff. From the moment we walked in, everyone was incredibly friendly and genuinely helpful. The cafe itself has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere that isn't too loud or chaotic, making it a great place to sit back and recharge. It is rare to find such a perfect combination of great drinks and top-tier service. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area and looking for a hospitable environment to enjoy a great cup of coffee.

Online Ordered and picked up for the lunch at The Grey Dog. It’s vibrant and buzzing inside. Small place but nice and welcoming vibes. Reservation is highly recommend.<br><br>The food was ready in 15’mins. I got buttermilk chicken sandwich with fries. The chipotle sauce on top was great. A little kick but not too spicy. The sauce works with the chicken the slaw and carrots. It gave some depth and not just plain chicken sandwich. Fries were great. Crispy outside and soft inside.<br><br>Overall a great spot for lunch.

This place is super cute! The food was delicious and the portions are reasonable to their prices. It's a lil cramped but otherwise, the staff were nice and the vibe was super chill.

I wanted to leave a review on the wonderful experience at your restaurant. Although it was an extremely busy Saturday afternoon, I still felt the laid-back vibe in the restaurant and was never rushed. I was there to meet five of my longtime friends and from the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. The food absolutely delivered. I had the big house burger with the most delectable horseradish sauce. It was delicious but what made the experience most exceptional was a young lady named Erin, who took pure leadership on the floor. She was attentive without being intrusive, checking in at just the right moments and making sure every table felt taken care of. She recommended the glow up mule and I was so glad I took her advice. It was just delicious. You could also tell that the staff respects her and she definitely set the tone for the whole restaurant. In a busy location where things seem to move fast, Erin managed to make us feel seen and valued, and I just needed to add that, that kind of hospitality is rare, and it makes all the difference in the world. I absolutely highly recommend going to Grey Dog in Union Square for brunch, lunch, coffee meetings, or a casual dinner because it makes you feel as if you’re home.

I'm glad I listened to a friend and tried the Grey Dog for dinner. From a friendly, helpful staff to cool, eclectic vibes and decor, to delicious food that was flavorful, nicely portioned and worth the price....it was a wonderful experience. If you're in the NYU area, give this lovely place a try.

We had the most delicious brunch here. We came in as a group of 4 during busy Sunday brunch without a reservation and Erin was so lovely and found us a table. The salted caramel pancakes were divine as well as the hibiscus mimosa! Will definitely be back.

I visited The Grey Dog at Union Square for the first time with a friend and it WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I was impressed the moment I walked in. The ambience is incredible.....it has this niche feel with Michigan-inspired touches mixed throughout. There are umbrella designs, summer vibes, and sports memorabilia all over the that make the place feel personal.<br><br>It was absolutely packed when we arrived, but the space felt fresh and clean. There's no weird restaurant smell or feeling cramped.....it's properly ventilated and organized. The seating arrangement is smart too.<br><br>The service was excellent. The waiters are really sweet and they seemed very professional too.<br><br>And yes, the food. It was phenomenal. We ordered brunch dishes and it was almost perfect. The quantity did justice to the price.<br><br>Highly highly recommend....this is a gem in Union Square and I can't wait to go back with more friends!

The truth is my partner was so hungry that when he got down to this area, we had to hurry and find a spot to eat. This place looks great from the outside. It is cute. It’s based on like a university I think and apparently it’s a chain, which is not an issue and just give you this cool school vibe now that’s not a problem. That’s a cute the space is.<br><br>The issue for me was that the food just wasn’t memorable. In fact it was almost to a point with the two sandwiches I got with the exact same thing which my bad on ordering, but like I came across the pictures of my phone and realized I forgot to post a review and I could not feel a lie for me thinking of the name of the restaurant so I went to Google Maps and found it in the area<br><br>Staff was great people are nice. The environment was great. We got seated quickly so that’s all great for me unforgettable.

a very cozy and casual spot for any meal. this was my first time at their union square location and i loved the festive decorations. we tried a few things on the menu: burger with sweet potato fries, loaded tater tots and a salad. everything was tasty and did its job in satiating our hungry stomachs. a great spot to try if you didn’t end up making reservations at the nearby popular restaurants.

I ordered the classic Grey Dog’s Breakfast Platter. It comes loaded with all the breakfast staples: scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, breakfast potatoes and a side of toast. It’s one of those plates that looks simple, but everything is executed well. Portions are generous too. I really like the interior of the restaurant. It has that cozy, rustic NYC charm with warm lighting.

Cool vibe. Great staff.<br><br>I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it was SMALL and unimpressive. I was still hungry afterwards. I'd go back to eat at the restaurant, but I would not order that again.<br><br>The butternut squash soup was delicious, also my friend's salad was huge and also delicious/fresh.

I love this cozy and friendly place. You can balance your meal with a delicious appetizer-entree combo and pair it with a cocktail, mocktail, or wine. My fave app is the roasted beets. Love the vegan burger or the crispy chicken bowl for an entree. The white/red wine options are good too. The servers are super cool and helpful.

Great dining experience, filled with cordial service and a super cute atmosphere. My friend and I came for bunch on a Friday morning and we had a lovely time.<br><br>Server was helpful with recommendations and very patient with our order.<br><br>My friend ordered the pistachio and avocado salad with grilled chicken, and I ordered the pancakes with fried chicken. Both dishes were prepared to perfection and super well-seasoned.<br><br>We also each ordered the peach fizz mocktail, which was such a fun treat and not overly sweet.<br><br>Pro-tip: they get super busy noon-onward, so I highly recommend making reservations.<br><br>All in all, I would 100% return to this restaurant for another dining experience and you should too :-)
