It had been a while since I visited my old neighborhood, and it was such a joy to see how the area has grown with a mix of new and familiar spots. This was my first time dining at The Consulate – UWS, and it instantly became a new favorite.

The decor is beautiful — stylish without trying too hard — and the service was genuinely welcoming. We felt taken care of from the moment we walked in.

The food was the real standout.
- Escargot: Delicious and tender. I personally would’ve loved a bit more garlic, but it was still very enjoyable.
- Crab Cake & Grilled Octopus: Both were absolute perfection. Fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked exactly right.
- Cocktails: Their cocktail list is impressive, and the Amy cocktail was especially fantastic.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience and truly enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, and the service. I’m already looking forward to coming back.

Response from the owner

Creating experiences that make guests want to return is exactly what we strive for.
We are so grateful for your support and look forward to welcoming you back again very soon!

Warm regards,
The Consulate

Busy restaurant with good vibes. The place is quite noisy and has a dark atmosphere.
We had the short rib plate and the gnocchi.
Short rib was really good, a bit rosemary forward for my taste. The gnocci dish was a bit bland and lacking in a defined flavor.

Response from the owner

Lucia,

We’re glad you enjoyed the short rib and atmosphere, and truly value your thoughts and have shared them with our culinary team.
Looking forward hosting you again soon.

Warm regards,
The Consulate Team

I had an absolutely exceptional dining experience at The Consulate UWS. This French restaurant truly stands out in the Upper West Side for its elevated cuisine, refined atmosphere, and outstanding attention to detail.

From the moment I walked in, the service was warm, welcoming, and highly professional. The staff is attentive without being intrusive, creating a perfectly balanced dining experience. Every detail — from presentation to timing — is thoughtfully executed.

The food was outstanding. The burger was incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the tartare was fresh, delicate, and beautifully seasoned — easily some of the best I’ve had in New York. You can tell the kitchen focuses on high-quality ingredients and precision.

Another highlight is their impressive wine list and cocktail selection. There is a wide variety of wines and curated drinks, making it a perfect spot whether you’re going for a casual evening or a more elevated dining experience.

A unique touch that makes this place even more special is the live jazz on Mondays, which adds a sophisticated and cozy ambiance.

A special mention to Santiago, the bartender — he truly made my evening unforgettable. A highly professional bartender who delivers exceptional service and crafts outstanding drinks.

Overall, The Consulate UWS is a top-tier French restaurant in NYC that delivers on food, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience on the Upper West Side.

The restaurant reminded me of the French movie, "The Taste of Things". The atmosphere was like being in a kitchen of a French home. The lighting made it feel cozy & enjoyable. When we sat down, we were serviced with attention and recommendations of the food both off menu and specials. We had wine but the cocktails looked amazing and complimentary to the food.
We had the artichoke with aioli. Escargot, Ceasars salad with anchovies and lastly bone marrow with fig sauce. Oh, the flavors! For entrees, the pork chop apple sauce with mustard spicy! I had the short rib braised with capitelli and herb ricotta cheese! The dessert, apricot panne Cotta with orange vouray champagne designed with edible flowers adorning the dessert..
To tell the truth, I was sad to go and not able to eat more! Proof, I will be going back to have more! Looking for a wonderful food experience in France 🇫🇷, please go here. Anywhere you are seated is just a great spot.. You a seat to watching other's eating.m enjoying their food & wishing you had what they were eating..

We’ve been recommended The Consulate and haven’t had the chance to come until now, and I wish we had come sooner! The food was amazing, with a mix of interesting and classic foods. Bibi, our server, was lovely, thoughtful, and recommended some great dishes. We’ll be back!

An Absolute UWS Gem!
Consulate UWS is hands-down one of the best dining experiences in the neighborhood. The ambiance is chic and sophisticated, yet it maintains a warm, welcoming soul that makes you want to linger over every course.

The food was spectacular, but what truly made our night was our server, Bebe. If you want the ultimate experience, ask for their section! Bebe was absolutely lovely—attentive, charming, and a total expert on the menu. Every single one of their recommendations was a home run.
It’s rare to find service that is this polished yet genuinely personal. Between the vibe, the flavors, and Bebe’s world-class hospitality, we couldn’t have asked for a better night. We will definitely be back!

Response from the owner

It’s always our goal to provide service that feels both polished and genuinely personal.
We truly appreciate your support and can’t wait to welcome you back for another great evening soon!

Warmly,
The Consulate Team

We had a lovely time at this demure French gem on the corner of Columbus & 85th. The hostess was very warm and welcoming, our server was polished and efficient, friendly and personable (rare combo these days), and the food was legit a culinary delight.

We tried the wild mushrooms and truffle flatbread, the beet and blood orange salad (off the specials menu), the miso pomegranate glazed salmon, and the wagyu steak (off the specials menu)…which was like eating art, and the sticky toffee cake. All top notch.

It was my first time eating here, so I wasn’t feeling too adventurous, but definitely have 100% faith now. In the future, I plan to go for the oysters, caviar, and lamb tartar; as well as the bone marrow, and escargots…to start. This may be my new scene. They do a great job of creating a homey, comfortable space with exquisite food. It was busy on a Saturday evening, but never felt cramped; lively but you could still have a conversation without yelling.

The passion rouge cocktails (off the specials menu), too, were a delight.

Response from the owner

Beautiful restaurant near Central Park. Nice and fast service. The smoked salmon egg Benedict was okay. The eggs were overcooked. The French onion soup was just alright too. I would give it another try.

We had a fantastic time here. The vibe is warm and so festive during the holidays. Bebe and Staka were attentive, funny, and so kind as servers. Santiago made us great drinks! We will be back, especially for oysters. Yum!

Came for happy hour and loved the food, drinks, and the cozy Christmas vibe! The truffle fries were so crispy, and the escargot was delicious and came with perfectly toasted bread to dip with. I also liked my drink, Oui Mademoiselle. They also had live jazz which was a great addition. We ended the night with the pineapple upside down cake which was SO good. Highly recommend!

Response from the owner

Grace,

Hearing you enjoyed both the festive mood and the flavors truly means a lot to us.

All our thanks,
The Consulate

The food is outstanding and delicious! Escargot tastes like in Paris during my internship at the Louvre spring fine arts program of 2019. The Tomahawk steak was decadent and fatty; cooked perfectly medium rare. Our server Milan was absolutely lovely and warm. Such a great atmosphere, and attentive service even during the holiday rush!

Hugely impressed with our experience at The Consulate. Really charming French restaurant on the Upper West Side! We ordered a variety of items to split, and loved all of them.

My favorite was the mushroom flatbread and the sliders, but really tough call. Everything was truly great!

The ambiance was lovely as well, would for sure return.

Came here with my coworkers and really enjoyed it! It's intimate vibes and very dark inside.

Good:
- The food was all so high quality - despite being more pricey
- The lamb tartar was very fresh and the bread it came with was also very tasty and toasty
- The beef pasta dish was very good, the texture was good and the flavoring was just right too
- The ceviche was fresh and very palette cleansing

Bad:
- The table was a bit small for four people
- Portion sizes are pretty tiny for the price
- Food took a while to get here but the staff were still nice

Overall a really great fancy spot to go with friends for a more intimate dinner setting!

I had another great meal at the Consulate on the UWS with my mom.

We dined on a weekend evening- I have usually only been here on weekends earlier in the day or weeknights and we did find the noise level inside to be too loud- this can easilu be rectified next time by requesting a quieter table by the windows. I did find the service on paat visits to also be better, but other staff members and the manager did notice when we had been waiting a while with empty plates and then were waiting to order dessert and pay the bill and they took care of us. I will chalk this up to it being a busy weekend as past visits here have featured exceptional service

Brussels & Kale Salad Dinner- very tasty- would have loved even more apple $23

Chef’s complimentary Amuse Bouche salmon tartare- really stole the show- we would order this next time! My mom doesn’t usually go for raw fish and loved it! $0

Short Rib Cavatelli Dinner- my favorite item- so delicious and sheep cheese on top $37
I dream about this dish! The week before I dined at The Smith by Lincoln Square and ordered their short rib pasta- it was SUCH a let down- NO short rib and barely any sauce, similar price to The Consulate, so my mom and I joked that tonight’s was a bowl of “redemption short rib”

Wild Mushrooms Truffle Flatbread - $24
Madw with goat cheese- my mom and dad’s favorite menu item- mom loved it

Sticky toffee cake - $15
This was a dessert special and had dates in it, was divine!

Receipt for dinner for 2 - before inKind promos - 2 apps, 1 entree, 1 dessert $107.79 post tax, pre-tip . Total post inkind post 22% tip: $91.46

I appreciate that the consulate is on the InKind app and I can use my earned cashback as well as promo offers. Using inkind to pay, I was able to get $25 off the bill and earn 20% cashback for future trips

As soon as my group walked in for lunch, the hostess greeted and seated us. She was so friendly and made us feel comfortable immediately. Our waiter, Santiago, was fantastic. He had excellent recommendations, was very attentive and considerate (e.g., asking if we had to leave by a certain time), and even made the meal more special by giving me a complimentary dessert because we were celebrating. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the grilled chicken, burrata truffle corn salad, creme brulee, and blueberry cast iron pancake! I would love to return again after today's experience! The ambience is so elegant as well. Perfect for groups, dates, and celebrations!

Response from the owner
