My partner and I were hungry and didn’t know where to go and then we stumbled on this place! It’s a MUST TRY. The food was so fresh and delicious and the staff was so kind.

The octopus is PERFECTLY cooked. The flavors are incredible. I only wish it came with some potato or salad underneath. We also got the lamb fricassee, that sauce is so lovely and lemony. I think the lamb was just a touch over cooked but that is my only note on that dish. We got a half portion of rice on the side and I would recommend so you can savor every last bit of the sauce! The service is great, and I love the atmosphere. It feels like old New York and you are surrounded by Greek families in the restaurant. They gave bread with a delish vinegar and the end of the meal was a nice rice pudding dessert on the house. I will definitely be coming back!
Fantastic food! Recommend a stop here if you’re close… or just want to train in from Manhattan for some amazing Greek food. Just a stone’s throw from the train.
We came here expecting a nice night out, and while the food itself was honestly really good, the service completely took away from the overall experience. Every dish we ordered came out delicious and you can tell the kitchen knows what they’re doing, which makes it even more disappointing that the service was such a mess.

Our server was extremely inattentive the entire night. He forgot multiple drinks and parts of our order more than once, and we constantly had to remind him about things we already asked for. There were long stretches where he completely disappeared and we had no idea where he went. Instead of checking on our table like a normal server would, we had to repeatedly flag down other waiters just to try to find him or get help with basic things. At one point it honestly felt like we were “hunting him down” just to get service.

The most frustrating part was that we were supposed to receive a complimentary dessert, which was mentioned to us earlier, but of course it never came. After waiting a long time, we once again had to call over another staff member to ask about it because our server was nowhere to be found. The other employees we interacted with were actually much more helpful and responsive than our assigned server.

It’s unfortunate because the restaurant has great food and a lot of potential, but service matters just as much as the meal itself. Spending the entire night trying to get someone’s attention, reminding them about forgotten items, and chasing down staff is not the experience you expect when dining out. Hopefully management addresses the service issues because the kitchen deserves better representation than what we experienced that night.
Michael is an amazing server!

Dinner for 2, we ordered a small Greek salad (enough to share!) and the seafood combination. SO FRESH! Price was on par with most local restaurants. Don't have any complaints - I would come back to try more plates.
Pretty convinced this is the best authentic Greek food spot and prefer this over others in the neighborhood. The go to is always chicken souvlaki with lemon potatoes. The spanikopita and skordallia are also divine. The fish is brilliantly prepared and flavorful as well. It's loud and lively in here but I think it's part of the charm. We come here for birthdays and the food never disappoints. Thank you Stamatis.
The food was okay.... The menu is not impressive. It's very old school Astoria. Roast chicken with lemon potatoes ...stuffed peppers Greek salad.... The place is huge it's very clean ...roomy. The service is outstanding. The bread is amazing...
We had a great Sunday lunch here. The service was excellent — our waiter was super friendly and helpful. We ordered the spinach pie, pastitsio, pork souvlaki, and chicken souvlaki — all delicious and generously portioned. After our meal, the waiter even brought out a complimentary custard-filled phyllo dessert with honey and cinnamon, which was amazing.

Prices were reasonable for the area, and the staff was incredibly welcoming. The restaurant was packed, and the owner was walking around greeting diners and checking in on everyone, which gave the place a warm, homey feel. They were also very accommodating with our child, providing a high chair, kiddie cup, and extra plates and napkins without us even having to ask.

Highly recommend — we’ll definitely be back!
Lovely place! Slouvaki and octopus were both really good. Service was great as well - they gave us free butter to eat with the bread!
Place has strange smell, might be due to ventilation not working properly (or some cleaning is needed at the far away sitting area)
Food is not the best quality
Service was ok.
Will not come back.
Good food and nice ambience, referencing more modern Greece than mythologized ancient Greece. Clean bathroom and seating al fresco in season. Nice atrium in the rear dining room. In September 2024, Queens Libertarians hosted Larry Sharpe at this location.
The last time I visited Stamatis was 15 years ago. It is now 2025. My friend never forgot the Lemon chicken and potatoes. Surprisingly, parking was not too hard. One of our party was as Greek as can be. We sat in the covered garden. It was very pleasant.

I wanted an Octopus appetizer and we got a plate of Tzatziki Dip with Pita bread. They were amazing. I had shrimp with mushrooms, my friend had the lemon chicken and my Greek friend had Pastitsio. The proportions were huge. Everything was so good.

After 15 years, there were some differences but it lived up to our expectations. The wait staff was good. The bathrooms were clean. The men's room would have been impossible for a handicapped person to use. So go before you arrive if disabled.

They offered a free Greek Dessert. Just the perfect touch to end a great meal. Astoria has changed dramatically in 30 years. Stamatis retains the charm of Greece. Thanks for a wonderful time.
From the moment we walked into Stomata’s, we knew we were in for something special. The atmosphere was absolutely incredible—warm, inviting, and full of vibrant energy. The ambiance alone sets the tone for a perfect night out, whether you’re with friends, on a date, or just enjoying good food in a great setting.

Now let’s talk about the food—every bite was a masterpiece. You can truly taste the care and quality in every dish. From the appetizers to the entrees, everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. It’s the kind of meal that makes you stop mid-conversation just to savor the moment.

But what made the experience truly unforgettable was our server, Niko. Hands down, the best in the world. Niko was not only attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, but also brought such a genuine, friendly vibe that elevated our entire night. He made us feel like VIPs, and it’s clear he loves what he does.

If you haven’t been to Stomata’s yet, you’re seriously missing out. 10/10—can’t wait to come back!
Their grilled octopus is perfectly grilled and certainly tasty😋😋😋. My guests ordered the exact same dish and enjoyed it. The rice that went with the grilled octopus entree looked appetizing.
Their huge beans with tomatoes were delicious😋. So was the complimentary bread and dessert😋.

Too bad that I forgot to take pictures of our grilled octopus, rice and beans.
Food was great just as we expected. Decent portion. The salad was very fresh! It would be great if the white wine could be served chill.

The food and the vibe made it authentic.
