We stopped here for breakfast before starting the High Line Boardwalk, and it turned out to be the best breakfast we had during our entire stay in New York! We both ordered what we Italians would call the "classic American breakfast": bacon, eggs, cheese, hash browns and toasted white bread with butter and jam. Everything was absolutely perfect and delicious.. I could’ve easily ordered another one!
The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. Even a young boy (who I think was the owners’ son) walked us to our table and was amazing at such a young age. (Of course, we made sure to leave him a well-deserved tip!)
The 1950s-style diner atmosphere truly made us feel immersed in the real New York of those years. Between the exceptionally friendly staff and the outstanding food, it was such a memorable experience. When we plan another trip to New York, we will definitely come back.. 100%, that’s a promise!
Although the food and staff were really nice the portion seemed small for the price. My sandwich seemed like most of the volume was saurkraut rather than corned beef. Also I didnt expect it to be an open faced sandwich as "open faced sandwiches" had its own section on the menu.
I love an old school diner and Skylight did not disappoint!! My wife had the Denver omelet and I had the Lumberjack with 2 eggs, 3 pancakes and bacon. Bacon looked a little old but was okay. The Denver omelet was good and a decent portion. Our server was very attentive and courteous.
Such an easy stop and breakfast time early morning when you are getting out of moynihan train station. We always ask for Yanet! She's attentive, sweet and magical!
There is an extensive menu here. The food is plentiful and very good. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Highly recommend if looking for comfort food and a wide selection to choose from.
I absolutely loved it here. We went here because of the reviews and I have to stay, they were valid. At first when we walked in, my daughter was nervous because its looks like a low key place but we actually loved that about it. Busting around all NYC to be able to come to a relatively quiet place, people gathering, enjoying their time, not rushing. Amazing. Secondly, the food. Great food, amazing portions. The gentleman even noticed we were super cold (January), and brought us hot buns, no charge. After dinner, I told the gentleman it was my daughters birthday and wanted a little muffin or smtg with a candle and he brought her this amazing slice of cake and all three came and sang happy birthday with us. The service was amazing. There were like 3 servers ensuring we had all we needed. Honestly, I rarely post reviews but had to for this place!
If you are not a US citizen, this is a great place to have your first diner experience. Loved the NY cheesecake. Veggie chilli was nice but more of a savoury dish than a chilli.
The atmosphere is really cozy , plain but functional. Staff are fast, they take orders quickly and effectively. I went there during Christmas time so it was Christmas vibe with Christmas tree and decors.
So we decided to go here because we had a couple of hours to kill before heading to airport. We landed on this one due to the time of night 130am and reviews. This place delivered. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had the cheeseburger club with sweet potatoe fries. It was delicious that burger 🍔 had some seasoning. Thank you Chef. Those fries did not taste like frozen fries either. I ordered a Corona 🍺 and it was ice cold. We appreciated the smile from the server as we are sure she had a long day.

This diner looked like ones featured on The Godfather of Harlem. This took me back in time when diners were the go to. i know one thing when we head to Newark Airport in the future, we will stop here to eat before going to airport and paying for medicore food that is over priced.

There is parking.
Very large menu with lots of option. The food was good and fast. I ordered a chocolate peanut butter milkshake and they did not skimp on the peanut butter like most places do. The famous bacon cheeseburger was just an average burger in my opinion. It was good but nothing special.
I absolutely loved this diner. This was right down the street from my hotel so it was an easy walk. Both times they were busy but I was seated quickly and my order was taken right away. The food was excellent! I had the Nutella waffle with bananas the first time and the 2x2 lumberjack with pancakes the second time. The food was quick to come out and the wait staff was attentive. Next time I come to New York I will make sure to take others here as well.
During a visit to New York City, we decided to experience breakfast at the Skylight Diner. The first thing that struck me was how clean and bright the space was, embodying that nostalgic, old-fashioned diner feel that we were hoping for.

The menu is impressively extensive, offering a wide range of options, though I must admit I found it a bit on the pricey side for a diner. The food, when it arrived, was quite good and satisfying, delivering on the hearty breakfast we were craving.

However, the service left much to be desired. It took about 10 to 15 minutes before anyone came over to take our order and that was only after we asked for assistance. After our initial order was taken, we never saw our server again, and we were only served our first cup of coffee without any refills offered.

If the service had matched the quality of the food, we would have easily rated this place five stars. The Skylight Diner definitely has potential, and I hope they can improve their service to match the delicious offerings on the menu!
It's simply awesome. This restaurant should be 5 stars all the way. This is an old school style diner, but the food is terrific. I had the NY strip and eggs with fruit salad. My steak was cooked a perfect medium, not overdone as many diners do. Eggs were perfect and served with fresh fruit salad (extra $). Coffee was good, hot and plentiful. My only drawback was I didn't have the time to try more. The French toast, eggs Benedict, pancakes, and tuna salad platter all looked really appetizing. This is just a block from Moynihan train station- an easy walk and service was fast.
This diner is open super early, so that's a plus. The place is so clean, has lots of character, and service was great. The food was alright. The hash browns were dry and very smashed, with the green bell pepper being too dominant of a flavor. My sirloin steak was tough but very tasty, and eggs were dry. I love that they ask if you want butter on the toast, which is a very tasty grain or sourdough.
