Horrible! Just left there… first of all the greens had no flavor, the fried whiting was fishy, the bbq chicken very tender and boney. Too much vinegar in the bbq sauce as well as the greens and potato salad…. Super soggy. Cornbread disgusting, dry, crumbly. a waste of time and money!

Just a take out spot no seats inside . The food was decent honestly and they do stuff the plate. I enjoyed the fried chicken -I’ll pass on the bake macaroni tho.

Found this place on Tik Tok. Upon walking in looked very dingy and food looked stale with a film over some of the food. Looks like it hasn’t been touched all day. Staff was ultra disrespectful. One staff female with glasses had an attitude when I asked if I could pay extra for an extra serving. Food was not up to par. When I asked about their add on Tik Tok they said no we don’t do that. I was confused. Will never come back. Don’t waste your time.

Member of my lodge has been bringing the fried Whiting for quite a while. We have other food but everyone eats the Whiting. Tastes fantastic. We are now going to expand by ordering other dishes on the menu.
I'm one Italian who loves this food.

The food is good and the portions are large. Check the day you go, somedays are only cash, but most days you can use your debit/credit cards. The place is Caribbean/African American so you get spices in some meals. Nothing is bland, so it tastes very good. I have lived here, moved away, and returned for a few months, and I am happy this place is here to service the neighborhood. Good Ribs and Chicken are hard to find, and this place delivers a good serving of both. When someone gives a bad review, check their other reviews before you believe it, most places are good. If they lack something, tell hem, and let them improve to your taste. Thanks.

Well, its changed over the years since the last time I've been there. They can really use some work on a appearance. Presentation is everything, that includes the appearance of the restaurant and the display area for food.
Outside of that the customer service was very good.
This time I only end up ordering side dishes. Mac and cheese, macaroni salad, sweet potato and rice and peas. Outside of those, the Mac and cheese was tasty. The sweet potato was right on point.
The macaroni salad was not good at all, and the rice and peas I could do without because it wasn't bad nor good it just tasted old.
However is a convenient spot and the menu does have more on it so it's a hit and miss. It all depends on what you are ordering

Prices for a dinner are too high. 6 years ago a turkey wing dinner with more food was $11. Now it is $26. That is a 136% increase. Make that make sense. Not coming back because of that. Their competition is more reasonably priced.

This place has gone seriously downhill. The food was old and tasted awful like it had been sitting out for days. There's no flavor, no love, no nothing in their so-called "soul food." And to top it all off, I think they tried to pass off beef neck bones as short beef ribs. Totally unacceptable! The service is disgraceful. No southern charm here. This place is old been here for a while and you would think some renovations had been done they closed down for a couple of months and then came back worse than when they closed. I think the Fish House Ran its race and now they need to close. They are now quantity over quality. They lost their touch. Bye, fish house. Food sitting out all day until it's dried out. The health department needs to take a look at this place... Hot food should not be kept out of the refrigerator for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is 90°F or higher, the time limit is reduced to 1 hour. This is because bacteria can multiply rapidly in the "danger zone" between 40°F and 140°F. They used to have a quick turnover and line out the door, but not anymore. I only get the fried fish from here. The Fish is cooked to order. My family ordered that other stuff.

I was staying at a hotel near JFK and went for a walk to find something more interesting than hotel food: this place blew me away. The ribs were so flavourful and tender, the mac n cheese is probably the best I’ve ever had, with a huge portion and reasonable prices. Thank you guys for looking after a confused looking English person

Growing up we knew this restaurant as RCL . I would drive from Brooklyn to get these big plates to share with 4 of us . There food is affordable for what you get and taste like home cooking . At time the lines can get long but it moves . Long time Patron they don’t miss .

Response from the owner

Thank you so much for the love and for rocking with us since the RCL days. We're honored to still be part of your family traditions; we recently decided to return to the original name our parents gave the business "Rockaway Fish House" to honor our roots and legacy. We appreciate your continued support and can't wait to serve you again soon.

The food is horrible. It taste like they’re cooking for 90 year old patients. It’s very bland. The macaroni and cheese is dry and the cheese they use taste like the cheese from the cheese and bun on Easter. Very great customer service from the three young men that was there stay away from the candy yams not sweet at all I’m not going back.

I ordered Uber. The food was raw nasty. It taste like morning breath, and I’m gonna redo it the way I like it. The ribs was dry and raw like they boil the ribs and then put in the oven to cook. If I wasn’t at work, I would take it back horrible

Best place to get Soul-Food. The wait may be long but the service is awesome. I been going to Rockaway fish house for years. My grandmother worked there with her good friend and owner Mr. Charlie, when Carmichael dinner closed down. If you want some good down SOUL-FOOD YOU have to give Rockaway fish house try

Great spot for some Soul food. The serving sizes are huge. Dinner plates come with 2 sides & a main dish. They have a variety of meats to choose from, bbq chicken; jerk chicken, ribs, etc. I ordered Whiteys plate which comes with 4 pcs of fish, and 2 sides - Mac & cheese with cabbage. I also ordered yams, and black eye peas with a side of jerk chicken. Everything taste so good. The plates are filling & delicious
