My husband and I visited Pure Thai Cookhouse for dinner and were impressed with everything about the experience.

I ordered the Wok Chili with Shrimp, and it hit the perfect spice level for someone with a medium spice tolerance from the Upper Midwest—noticeable heat, but still really enjoyable and balanced rather than overwhelming. My husband had the Wok Chili with Turmeric Beef, which was ideal for someone with little to no spice tolerance; flavorful, comforting, and not too hot at all.

The portion sizes were just right—generous without feeling heavy or excessive. We also both enjoyed some sake with our meal, which paired nicely with the dishes.

The staff was super helpful when it came to navigating the menu and were consistently friendly throughout our visit. The restaurant itself feels very homey and welcoming. Like many spots in the city, the seating is fairly close together, but it didn’t feel intrusive or uncomfortably tight.

Overall, a great experience, and definitely a place we’d recommend and return to.

I was looking for an easy late lunch spot around 9th Avenue on a Monday when I walked past Pure Thai — honestly, it felt like discovering a hidden gem on 9th Street. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel so welcome and gave amazing recommendations.

But even better than the service was the food. Every single dish was incredible. The Larb Ped was hands down the BEST I’ve ever had — no other place even comes close!!! The noodles were so flavorful I didn’t need to add any seasoning at all. Absolutely satisfying and unforgettable. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Solid Thai food in Hell's Kitchen. Small restaurant thst can get busy. We made reservations and we're glad we did.

Shared all of our dishes starting with papaya salad (good), basil chicken (hard to go wrong here - solid) and Ratchaburi dry noodles with pork and crab (tasty).

Service was good and efficient and prices are reasonable.

Really enjoyed this spot. The beef pad see ew was super flavorful and the mango sticky rice was amazing. Great value for money overall. Cute, authentic Thai vibe as well, would definitely come back.

Found myself in New York on a business trip with a few hours to kill. Gemini recommended this place given I had a recent conversation with it around Tom Yum soup, it was near the hotel, and had good reviews. (They don't need another one, but here goes anyways!) I wound up having their Thai tea and Sukothai Pork Noodle Soup. I was blown away, by the food, the ambiance (cozy, warm vibes and had what I'm guessing is contemporary/pop Thai music playing), and the service. So good I would return for dinner if I didn't already have hard plans. The only downside is that I don't get to come to NYC often and now I'm going to be dreaming about the soup I had and longing for an excuse to come back.

Papaya salad has a very nice kick with the spices. We also got the house special dry noodle, and Penang curry. The flavors are intense but enjoyable!

In the past 15 years the Thai population in the US has doubled in size, and it’s a community that opens a lot of restaurants. Manhattan's Thai food history reflects a cycle of immigration, culinary establishment, and geographical shifts, bolstered by national efforts to spread Thai culture through food. For decades, Hell's Kitchen, especially 9th Avenue (between 36th and 53rd St), was the spot for authentic Thai cuisine.

Located between 51st and 52nd Street on 9th Avenue, my partner, my family, and I decided to have lunch at Pure Thai Cookhouse. A reservation was easily made via OpenTable.

Upon entering the very popular husband-and-wife team establishment, we were greeted by the staff and got a round table by the window instead of the picnic bench-style table in their long and narrow paneled interior with vintage Thai movie posters invoking the outdoor street food culture.

Their menu features the classic dishes one would find at a Thai restaurant (curries, stir-fries, and homemade noodles).

For appetizers to share, we decided on the Mixed Appetizers, which featured 2 steamed vegetable dumplings, 2 root vegetable curry puffs, and 2 vegetable spring rolls. For our main meal, we opted for Pad See Ew with beef, Pad Thai with shrimp, Crab Fried Rice, and Wok Roasted Chili with Shrimp.

The flavors were authentic and well-balanced. Each dish incorporated saltiness, aromatic spices and herbs, spiciness, sweetness, and sourness. If the dish does not tick all these boxes, then it is not truly Thai. We’re convinced that almost anything on the menu would be great as is, with no tweaking or extra spice needed. Service was fast and friendly. Our server was Bew.

One can truly experience real Thai cuisine without having to fly to Thailand.

12 years ago when I first visited Pure Thai Cookhouse, I was blown away. 12 years later when I came again, I was still impressed by the quality of their street style Thai food. Even better this time, it is slightly easier to get a same day reservation.

I'll take my friends to this place if we are looking for no frill high quality Thai street food with reasonable price. This may be the top one for me in this category.

Response from the owner

I’ve been coming here for almost 10 years and I still order the same soup every time — Sukhothai. Over the years I became pescetarian, so they make it with tofu for me now, but I’ve had it with meat before too and both versions are equally delicious. It always tastes exactly the same — pure comfort. The place is tiny but the food is incredible, and I bring everyone I care about here when they visit. The staff is always warm and friendly. Pure Thai is truly a gem of Hell’s Kitchen.

Such a gem! Every single thing was delicious & the prices were so reasonable esp for being in NYC. Service was top tier and the restaurant is super cute and cozy.

Update: Just went here again during a day trip to NYC & it was so good once again! We got the app sampler (veg puffs are the best), chicken pad Thai, and the crab & duck noodles. Lovely service & delish food!

Thai cuisine is in my top 3 favorite cuisines ever. So much so that I've traveled to Bangkok to eat and learn to cook more than 3 times now. While I have my usual Thai restaurant go tos, Pure Thai is now my favorite when it comes to their noodle soups! I've just recently tried both their beef and roasted pork soups with rice noodles and they were so delicious and comforting! They also do their Thai iced tea just right and have good vegetable spring rolls! Service is warm and friendly even if they get so packed and busy. The restroom is spacious and clean especially in their expanded section which we usually enjoy better. Can't wait to come back soon for my Thai noodle soup fix! :)

Nice spot for groups and for alone, they have bar seats so if you want to dine for a quick meal it's good for that too. The beef pad see ew was what I got and it was very flavorful and noodles were perfectly soft and chewy!

This place is a must-visit! The noodles are incredibly tasty and the other Thai dishes are just as flavorful. I’ve been here twice already, and both times the food and service were perfect. Special thanks to Khem, who was incredibly kind and attentive, making sure everything was perfect for us. Definitely a 5-star experience!

The food here is absolutely delicious! The noodles have an authentic Thai flavor, and every single dish is packed with amazing taste — yes, every single one. You can truly experience real Thai cuisine without having to fly to Thailand. The prices are very reasonable, and the staff are attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Highly recommended!
