When we were just planning our trip to New York, the legendary Peter Luger was on our must-visit list! We can say that we were completely delighted with the whole story, from the ambiance to the staff and of course the steaks, which were fantastic. The meat was so good that we enjoyed every bite and we look forward to the opportunity to return to this iconic restaurant again. I would also like to thank Mr. Dennis who served us, he was very kind, friendly and professional, he definitely made our experience that great! See you again at the first opportunity.

Dining at Peter Luger Steak House was truly unforgettable.<br>Honestly one of the best steaks I have ever tasted.<br><br>The meat had that perfect texture — beautifully crispy on the outside, yet incredibly tender and juicy with every bite. The flavor was deep, rich, and cooked to perfection.<br><br>Their famous sauce was also very unique and complemented the steak exceptionally well. Even the butter stood out — rich, flavorful, and surprisingly memorable on its own.<br><br>No wonder this legendary steakhouse has received Michelin recognition for years and has remained iconic since 1887. A timeless New York dining experience that absolutely lives up to its reputation. 🥩✨

I am not a steak lover but my all loving friends and families they love steak. I bring them to this place and treat them with the best steak. Great experience. Very classic and traditional steak house. Love their staff. They take their roles seriously proudly and professionally. That makes everything different.

I went for the meat and it was excellent, cooked perfectly to my liking 'rare'. Atmosphere is average, service is nice and efficient. I tried cheesecake it was good but too thick. All desert come with a nice whipped cream. I will come back even if this is overall a bit expensive.

The BEST dry-aged steak in NY! The dry-aged steak was absolutely outstanding. The flavor was rich, perfectly balanced, and cooked exactly as ordered. You can really taste the quality and care in the aging process. The texture was tender, juicy, and incredibly satisfying. Service was attentive and friendly, making the whole experience even better. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would definitely come back again. Highly recommended!

Made a reservation at opening (11:45 AM) and had an excellent meal at Peter Luger Steakhouse.<br><br>Ordered:<br>Steak for 2: $155.90 — perfectly cooked, classic Luger experience<br>Bacon: $8.95 — thick, salty, shareable, excellent starter<br>Luger burger + cheese + fries: $29.85 — very flavorful, highly recommended<br>Creamed spinach: $18.95 — good texture, but not worth the price<br>Baked potato: $9.95 — very large, slightly overpriced<br>Apple strudel: $14.95 — highly recommend, especially with schlag<br>Coffee: $3.50 — excellent with schlag<br>Drink: ~$20<br><br>Total: $284 before tip<br><br>Portions are generous, service is attentive, and the meal overall is excellent. Perfect for a splurge or special celebration, and I would definitely book again. Best for mid-sized parties since the sides for 2 were better for 3-4.<br><br>Peter Luger delivers the classic steakhouse experience with no surprises, just high-quality meat and traditional sides. They only take cash, debit or check.

If you are a person of colour, do not come here.<br><br>I visited here as a party of four, and everyone in our party is Asian. For your information, two of us, including myself, speak native level of English and we do not have any Asian accents (my friend has a British accent, and I have an American accent). We happened to arrive quite earlier than our reservation, so I asked the front desk if it was possible for us to get a table at the moment. It was nice of them that they did offer a table for us, though it was in that 'people of colour zone' like many other reviews mentioned.<br><br>It all started when we asked one of our friends, who has a thick Korean English accent to order for the food. Just until then, when my other friend and I, who dont have any accents, spoke to the server, he was being normal. But right after he heard her accent, he started having this condescending attitude towards her, as if he was teaching her English. My friend literally just said "this one in medium rare, and this one in medium well please." And the server asked her multiple times "MEDIUM RARE? MEDIUM WELL??" giving the impression that he's trying to say 'you are not pronouncing it right'.<br><br>I could notice him having the attitude throughout the whole dinner after that. He did not try to make any conversations with us, though I saw him doing that with some other White people sitting next to us. He asked me if I could get in a little bit to make some space for the servers but then he did not even say 'please'. He said "Madame, make a way for our servers." I can't list all the attitudes he was giving to us simply because there were so many.<br><br>Last but not least, one of my friend was cutting some hanging meat from the bone, and then that server came to us and told us "there's some more meat here as well." But the tone was definitely sarcastic and the way he flipped the bone and showed us small chunck of meat attached to it was so rude. Why do we need to get treated as if we are starving beggars when we pay more than 100 dollars per person?<br><br>He also mocked my friend's British accent when we were about to check out. It was such a humiliating experience and thus we decided not to tip (in fact we were giving them 5% tips). Then the server returned with the change and told us again that the tip is not included, with a separate paper stamped with "customary tip: 18-22%". We were so speechless by the audacity of him refusing 5% tip and asking us to tip more with that attitude and behaviours. When we were checking the paper that he gave us, we checked the backside of it and he told us again as if he's teaching us, "That is not your bill. You need to see the backside (where that customary tip thing was stamped)."<br><br>So we left 3 dollars since he refused our gracious 5% tips, which round up to 20-30 dollars.<br><br>The food was mediocre, and the service was terrible. As a person of colour, I am not returning to this restaurant.

I've been going to Luger for several years now (including for my birthday twice) and I've never had a bad experience. I truly don't get the hate it gets. I've never had a rude waiter (they can be no-nonsense though, which I actually respect) and I've never had a bad steak here. Yes it is expensive, but which steak house (that isn't a chain) isn't?<br><br>My piece of advice is to order one size steak below your party size. The steak for two can feed 3 and the steak for three can feed 4 easily. And don't forget to order the bacon. And every dessert comes with their famous "schlag".<br><br>And remember to bring cash as they don't accept credit cards.

We had to try Peter Luger while in New York, it just iconic, so we made a reservation for lunch. Service was really good! The steak was also amazing, being from an Alberta ranch I have to be partial to Alberta beef, but this was a close second 😁. We also got the German fried potatoes, which were good. The house steak sauce was different than I was expecting, similar to a cocktail sauce, but it went really well with the perfectly cooked steak. We were happy we had made a reservation as there was quite a lineup otherwise. Thanks so much for the amazing lunch!

I went to the famous Peter Luger steakhouse in Brooklyn, and honestly, the food quality was excellent. We ordered a few different cuts to try them out, along with the burger, which I’d seen highly recommended.<br><br>As expected, the meat was top-tier full of flavor and cooked to perfection. It met all my expectations, as did the burger.<br><br>A special shout out goes to the French fries; they were spectacular. Obviously, you come here for the steak, but the fries were on another level.<br><br>While I have nothing but praise for the food, the service didn't come close to what you'd expect from such a famous restaurant. The waiters are almost rude to you, as if it’s part of the 'style' of the place, which I just don't get. You have everything you need to be the best, yet you fail at customer service.<br><br>In short, I think the price to quality ratio is fair, and the food/portions are very generous.

We found it worth the hype. Have had reservations for a few weeks. Sat right down when we got there. The service isn’t fast, means it isn’t rushed either, so sit and enjoy. Our server wasn’t overly friendly, but very efficient, didn’t feel rushed like in lots of restaurants. The steak was incredible. Fries, asparagus and the wedge salad were also delicious. The kid described the signature bacon as “meat butter”, also amazing.

The steak is phenomenal in every sense. The dry age is perfect and the seasoning is just right. It truly is a quality steak. The portions on the salads, appetizers, and sides are large enough to share. The German hash browns were particularly delightful. The atmosphere is somewhat stale and the service is good, not great. Overall, one of my favorite New York steakhouses.

One of the best steak experiences I’ve had! The steak was insanely good—juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The crispy fries were the perfect side, and the desserts were just as impressive.<br><br>The vibe is classic NYC—bustling and full of energy. Staff were super friendly and made us feel right at home. Be ready for a bit of a wait even with a reservation, but trust me, it’s totally worth it.<br><br>If you’re looking for an unforgettable steakhouse in NYC, Peter Luger is a must-try!

Excellent experience. One of the best steaks I've ever had. We did feel a little rushed but service was still great. We got the steak for 2 and was amazing. Really need to order it rare or medium rare its still going to cook in the butter once it's on your table. I know it seems over the top but spooning the butter over the meat takes it to another level. Can't go wrong with the German potatoes and finished it off with some cheesecake. Had several cocktails and a beer all were very good as well. For how well known and rated the place is prices weren't super crazy but you will spend 200 to 300 for 2 people. I would definitely come back again or at least try the one in Vegas.

What a great experience!! I recently had the pleasure of dining at Peter Luger while visiting my son in NYC. We did jit gave reservations the evening we dined however we did arrive earlier in the evening. We shared a house salad and tried the bacon to start. The salad was perfect as a start to our meal, simple yet fresh and delicious. The main course was absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection and just melted on your tongue. We enjoyed our server Mr Lou immensely who added some fun to our meal. Nothing beats spending time with those you love especially when the time you get is limited and spending a bit of that time with a bottle of champagne and a delicious steak and great service is appreciated. This experience was a treat I won’t forget and I hope to repeat on another visit to the city.
