Old John’s is a local gem, and one of the absolute best. The story and the history of this place is so unique and it’s infused in the culture of the people who work there. Everyone is so lovely, so kind and they make really good coffee!!! You can’t go wrong with the Old John’s burger - it’s delicious.

I had to stop here for lunch since my name is John and I’m old. 61, so not that old, but old enough. The place was very busy on Friday around 12:15 PM. I waited about 15 minutes for a table and was then seated near the door to the bathrooms (and kitchen, I presume). The food and service were great. My only bit of constructive criticism would be for the servers to try to be a little quieter when bussing tables. The spot where they dumped all of the dirty dishes after clearing a table was only a few feet from where I was sitting, and it was terribly loud and distracting. I ate so fast that my server even commented on how quickly I finished. I just wanted to get out of there because the crashing of plates and silverware was really getting to me. I would definitely go back, but next time I’d sit on the other side of the restaurant or at the counter.
Just stopped in for a quick bite of the classic New York cheesecake that they offer and it was absolutely divine even had strawberries and everything else on top which is apparently the classic way to have cheesecake hair. The cheesecake was nine dollars before tax which was pretty affordable very impressed. The flavour is great really nice crunchy biscuit base and the actual cake itself is incredibly smooth and dense but not too overpowering in flavour.
Perfect spot for a pre show dinner near the Lincoln center. The food is totally perfectly fine. The fries were actually above average!!

The cocktails were above average too! I liked my frozen margarita x Aperol spritz thing.

We could get a reservation day-of on a Wednesday night.

They do not have gluten free bread. They have some gf dinner options but not a lot at the sub-$20 price range. I got an omelette.
The food was good and hot.

I did not enjoy being seated in the rest of the Old Johns.

We went twice as we were pleased with the meals. However the portion size for their speciality French toast was small but tasty

The last time they seated me in the back perpendicular to a wall adjacent to the booth. I am a big guy and it was an uncomfortable place to eat as my arm could not spread our.

The service the last time was subpar as they missed asking us for condiments and I got up and walked to the counter to get hot sauce
Great American Diner, proper homely food. I had the spinach and mushroom omelette which comes with fries (mini roast potato's) and sourdough toast, also ordered some black coffee and orange juice.

Great portions (not too big) and excellent value for money.

It was also nice to see so many locals / regulars dining there (the waitress knew their usual, which is always a good sign).
The food was amazing, the service was excellent, perfect location, I absolutely loved this diner. The prices were surprisingly good, especially for the quality of food. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. The wait staff was particularly nice.
During my NYC trip, I wanted to experience a classic diner and found Old John’s Luncheonette close to my hotel. It turned out to be a great choice!

The food and atmosphere were great, but what really made the experience special was the service. Kathy was incredibly respectful and helpful regarding my halal diet. She took the time to make sure I had suitable options and made me feel completely comfortable.

When I came back a second time, Kathy actually remembered my dietary restrictions — it was honestly mind-blowing. That kind of attention and care is rare.

When they say “family-like environment,” they should mean this I believe. Customers greet each other, the staff call people by their names, and the whole place has such a warm and friendly vibe.

It was a wonderful experience, and I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in NYC.
Really enjoyed my lunch. Good size portions and reasonable prices, Our first time while in town visiting. The service was great as well. I had a delicious milkshake and club sandwich.
My partner and I walked in here around 10am on Sunday and were seated at the counter immediately. We ordered a couple of coffee’s and in classic diner fashion free refills! Our order was simple one breakfast burrito with chorizo and two eggs over easy with sourdough toast and turkey bacon. Both items hit the spot and weren’t overly expensive. This place gets busy so make sure to get in early. Also keep in mind that the hostess with queue waiting customers behind your seats at the bar which can be uncomfortable. I loved this spot and will certainly make an effort to stop again when I’m in the area.
I was quite surprised by the quality of this place. I enjoyed my meal so much. The short rib is great. I loved the service - very attentive and caring. I love the decor of the place - very nostalgic, yet modern. They have a lovely unsweetened iced tea that has a great taste - ugh I love tea!
Very cute atmosphere. The coffee was good and the food was hit or miss. Pancakes were VERY dry. The Leo was decent but the eggs weren't very good. Smoked Salmon was excellent and it came with a pretty tasty latke. Milkshake was medium and wouldn't order it again. It can get very busy for brunch so would recommend getting here early.
A classic NY luncheonette. Good food! Quick service! Fun vibe! Real old school menu with Dr Browns and I like that. French toast and the ham frittata. Sourdough toast was good too real nice. They also had a good music playlist playing which was good
Had an enjoyable weekday lunch here! The restaurant was pretty empty when I arrived around noon and steadily filled up until I left around 1:15. Food and service were great. Felt like a real UWS establishment. Good menu and a full bar. No complaints from me!
Old John’s Luncheonette is such a classic New York gem. The moment you walk in, you get that cozy, old-school diner feel with a touch of modern charm. The menu has something for everyone whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast, a burger, or a comfort-food favorite like the tuna melt (which is one of the best I’ve ever had).

The service is warm and friendly, and you can tell this place has a lot of history and love behind it. Everything feels homemade and done with care. It’s the kind of spot you can come to before a show at Lincoln Center, grab brunch with friends, or just enjoy a relaxed meal on your own. Definitely one of those neighborhood staples that makes New York special.
