Just ate with my friend here at Obao! It was great, the pad thai is to die for and the steamed dumplings were just amazing! Our server Eddy was so attentive and helpful, we had a great time! For the brave the cold sake- skip the small and just jump to the carafe!

If we ever return to NewYork, we will definitely come again!

Nice cozy place! I got the lunch Special and it was super worth it! They were even able to make the Pad Thai spicy for me. The back side of the restaurant is also beautiful. Definitely recommend.
OBAO always has delicious food! Stopped in today for the lunch special! Drink + App + Entree for $23 is a pretty solid deal for Midtown Manhattan. The noodles always have this smoky flavor which is what I always look for! Always looking forward to my next time back!
May took such amazing care of us! The Khao Soi was PERFECT! It is hard to find a khao soi dish this authentic. They also were able to easily accommodate my request to make it vegetarian and placed large, delicious, perfectly cooked tofu instead of chicken for me. A beautiful location, not far from Grand Central Station. The back dining room is gorgeous, window seating available also.
The food hit the spot on a cold rainy day. We had the crispy spring rolls, bon bo hua and pho. Everything was so flavourful and hearty but fresh at the same time. Would definitely come back! Service was also awesome, shout out to Eddy and Rose!
Solid dinner spot in Midtown East! We came as a party of 6 as a walk in and were luckily seated right away. Wide variety of Thai and Viet spots on the menu, from pho to stir fried noodles to rice dishes. Everything tastes great! We got the Mango Sticky Rice for dessert and the mangoes were ripe, sweet, and in season.

One critique is that my portion of Shrimp Pad Thai was smaller than another person in my group who got the Chicken Pad Thai, which seemed a bit weird. Even another patron at a different table had a larger portion, so I was a bit deflated.

Otherwise, still a reliable spot for great Thai/Viet food. Same vibes and great taste as their Hells Kitchen location, YUM!!

Thank you so much, Veronica, for your thoughtful and detailed review! We’re so happy to hear you enjoyed the variety on our menu and that the Mango Sticky Rice was a highlight — especially with the mangoes perfectly in season 😊

We also truly appreciate you pointing out the inconsistency with the Pad Thai portion sizes. That’s definitely not the experience we want for our guests, and your feedback is very valuable to us. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at c.rinnasak@obaony.com so we can learn more about your visit and make things right.

Thank you again for your support and for comparing us so kindly to our Hell’s Kitchen location. We hope to welcome you back again soon!
we had a great experience dining here! The sauce and seasoning for Eggplant tofu was spot on, green curry the right amount of spiciness. Definitely coming back.
Also a Thank you to our amazing server Jana
I usually don’t leave food reviews but this spot is a new fav! The server, William quickly greeted me with a smile and kindly walked me through the menu and sat me by the breezy patio.

I got the shrimp appetizer, Thai Iced Tea, AND Vietnamese Coffee, along with the Pho Bo (beef pho) and it was huge. Extremely fresh. I was there for no more than 30 minutes from inhaling my food haha. I didn’t expect to have such an extravagant lunch meal during my break. I’ll be back with friends to try their cocktails! Highlyyyy recommend!
Third time here— always been quick & very kind service, good portions, & yummy food. This is also my preferred location (as opposed to the Hell’s Kitchen one). Relaxed vibes. Our server was Som, thank you!!! We’ll be back :)

Som will be so happy to hear your kind words and appreciation.

Thank you again for your support—we look forward to welcoming you back for your fourth visit soon! 😊
The Thai dishes here are delicious. I didn’t get a chance to try the Vietnamese dishes, but I’m sure they are delectable as well. I had the crispy pork belly app and the crab fried rice entree (with a Thai fried egg and grilled shrimp on the side), and both were excellent. Everything was seasoned perfectly and nothing was too salty nor too bland. My taste buds and tummy were very happy. The service here is great - the bartenders, especially JJ & Rose!, and wait staff are all so very nice and thoughtful. I really enjoyed my dinner here and will definitely come back. They also have HH specials from 11:30am-6pm so extra plus!
I had a good experience here. The food came out quickly. Our server, May, was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Her positive attitude made my experience even better.
We went on a Tuesday night with great expectations since there were so many great reviews.

However, we left extremely disappointed with our experience.

The waiter seemed overwhelmed even though there wasn’t many tables.

We ordered the mushroom banh xeo and kim chi fries as an appetizer. Those were decent enough; nothing special.

Then came our main dishes, the bo luc lac and their special menu item of grilled pork which was $38!

Both dishes were EXTREMELY SALTY. There was not much flavor otherwise in either of the dishes.

Their special menu item seemed like a bunch of stuff just thrown together and didn’t really have a cohesive flavor.

The egg rolls that came with the dish was so bland, you start to think how can you go wrong with basic egg rolls??

For the amount of money we paid, you would think when you ask for a straw that it would not be handed to you with BARE HANDS and the wait staff side eyeing you like you did something wrong.

Not sure why this place has so many positive reviews since the food and waitstaff were less than mediocre.

Would not recommend. Save your money.

Hi , It seems this review may have been posted the the wrong location, as the experience described does not match our store.

Please kindly review and update.
We discovered this Thai and Vietnamese gem while searching for lunch spots on our last day in NYC. The location is incredibly convenient to the subway, and the interior is both cozy and welcoming. We ordered the Thai Drunken Noodles, Vietnamese Pork Chop with Rice, and Steamed Dumplings. Every dish arrived quickly and was packed with flavor. A special shoutout to our waitress, Jana, who was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Definitely worth a visit to OBAO!
We came here for lunch and then the vibes are very good. Service is super fast and all the food was delicious. We had the two-course restaurant week menu with the chicken satay and the soft shell crab; both are very delicious. What amazed us was the delicious foam short ribs. We even added one bowl of broth because they are so fresh and delicious. Definitely come back. Also the greetings from the manager Williams was very nice. Highly recommend.
Food is amazing full of flavor. Three shrimps in green salad, Soft shell crab curry seafood and Pho Bo are wonderful and the sauce is heavenly.
Dined early in the day so it wasn’t busy so our waiter (Rose) was great and helped with awesome recommendations.
Stop in and enjoy ❤️💕
