Good morning,

I want to express my sincere gratitude for the care and kindness I received during a very difficult experience. When my knee suddenly popped and I was unable to walk, I had to hop to my desk and was scared and overwhelmed. My wonderful work family immediately stepped in, helping me get to the ER and making sure I was cared for.

From the moment I arrived, I was treated with compassion, professionalism, and genuine concern. The ER staff registered me promptly and provided exceptional care, making me feel comfortable, supported, and at ease throughout my stay. Every member of the team showed kindness and understanding, and I am truly grateful for the love and care I received.

I was also touched by the visits and support from my work family. Their concern reminded me how much we value and appreciate one another, and it meant more to me than words can express.

Please extend my heartfelt thanks to the Patient Experience Team and the entire ER staff for making a frightening situation much easier to navigate. Your compassion, dedication, and outstanding care did not go unnoticed and will always be remembered. Thank you again.

I delivered my baby here due to it being a baby friendly hospital and I regret it everyday. The nurses and doctors were rude to me when I was dealing with unbearable contractions. They treated me like I was over exaggerating and left me in the triage unit screaming in a wheelchair. I had to beg a nurse to be moved because I this being my first time I didn’t know if I was about to give birth but it definitely felt like it. They moved me behind a curtain to see how far along I was and then rushed me to a room because I was progressing quickly.

In the room the doctor was very annoyed because I didn’t want to receive pictocin and I kept telling her no and she continued to ask me. They were not listening to me and it was difficult to continue to advocate for myself when I was in so much pain.

They cut my daughter’s cord even though I put delayed cord clamping in my birth plan. When we asked why it was done they did not give a clear answer.

For the actual delivery they did not let me record and there were about 10 nurses and doctors in my room just watching me give birth. This was extremely stressful and uncomfortable for me as a new mother. There was no reason for that many people to watch me give birth to my daughter and at the same time not allow me to record my own birth.
Her father was a patient in the hospital at the time due to having an accident two weeks before and he wasn’t allowed to come to my room and see her so they should have allowed me to record my own birth for her father.

My experience here was terrible and I will not be returning to this hospital for another delivery. If I could leave 0 stars I would.
Positive
I wish I knew this doctor's name but god bless this man. I was in extreme pain. At one point, a few providers told me I was probably sick with a virus. However, this doctor (he could have been a resident because he looked young) kept my name on the list for a CT. Apparently, I had kidney stones. If I didn't get this diagnosis, I wouldn't have this wake-up call regarding my health. I changed my diet and habits ever since then.

It's are not exactly life-threatening but the pain was so severe. If everyone could get this level of care, the world would be a better place.

Negative:
While this doctor was excellent, not everything was perfect. The old lady next to me waited all day without eating with extreme pain and had waited hours too for a CT scan but they forgot to put her name on the list. She was there with extreme pain for at least 12 hours. The problem is that it's hard to get pain medication when they don't know what's wrong with you.

Additionally, I left the hospital with a massive, extensive hematoma and bruising that covers my entire inner elbow due to an IV infiltration. While this kind of trauma rarely happens at private clinics, I know ER staff are overworked and dealing with a flawed healthcare standard, so I don't blame the individual nurse. I blame a stretched-thin healthcare system that prioritizes speed over patient comfort.
Elmhurst Hospital has some truly amazing doctors and nurses, and I’m grateful for the care and professionalism many staff members provide once you are admitted or properly seen. However, the Emergency Room experience is extremely disappointing. The wait times are excessive, communication is poor, and patients often feel ignored or left without updates for hours. The hospital has great medical professionals, but the ER system urgently needs better organization, faster attention, and more compassion for people who come in already scared or in pain.
My 80-year-old father spent 20 days at Elmhurst Hospital, including the last two weeks under Dr. Robert Thompson’s care for septic shock and C. diff. This was his third hospital admission, with each one worse than the last, after a prior discharge to rehab failed catastrophically due to negligence.

At the time discharge was being pushed, my father was still far from his baseline. He was unable to stand or walk safely without two people assisting him, was still having multiple loose bowel movements while on active C. diff antibiotics, and had not yet received the necessary DME or confirmed home services. Despite this, Dr. Thompson attempted to discharge him and told us that insurance was no longer paying for the bed, as if billing mattered more than my father’s safety.

When I advocated for my father’s safety and explained that he could not safely stand or walk due to his condition and medication side effects, Dr. Thompson was dismissive, stated there was nothing he could do, and continued pushing discharge. We were forced to file a formal QIO appeal to stop what we believed was an unsafe discharge.

Even the social worker the next day seemed baffled that the medical team had attempted to discharge my father without her approval and before the necessary equipment and services were in place. Thankfully, she was able to halt the discharge until those arrangements could be completed the following week.

There were also serious concerns with how abnormal labs were handled. My father’s anemia went uninvestigated for 17 days and was simply labeled chronic without a meaningful workup. His magnesium remained below the team’s own stated goal for the entire week and was only addressed after the family confronted Dr. Thompson. Abnormal labs that had been present for days were not acted on until the family intervened.

Families should not have to fight this hard for basic standards of care. Dr. Robert Thompson failed my father.

PS: What I've realized at this hospital is that they save patients only to kill them again. They dont mind that you keep coming back after getting sick again because they get more money from insurance. It's the cruel truth. I'd try to go to another hospital if it's not too much of an emergency. Either that or go here, get treated acutely, and transfer hospitals ASAP. This hospital is terrifying.
Despite the reviews here. We were treated fair and most of the time they cared to the patient. April and the rest of the staff were nice and stern. All of them including the doctors were easy and approachable. I think it’s just that they were short on staffing that’s why sometimes they reply avoidingly. Overall, we are blessed and thankful for all of them!

Hello, my name is Barsha. I have been living near Elmhurst Hospital for the past nine years, and unfortunately, my experiences there have consistently been disappointing. Over the years, I have visited this facility multiple times seeking medical care for my parents, siblings, and occasionally myself. However, due to repeated negative encounters with the front desk, medical staff, excessive wait times, and an overall lack of empathy and urgency, I have often avoided coming here for my own care.

Most recently, I arrived at the emergency department at 3:00 PM with right lower quadrant abdominal pain, concerned about a possible appendix-related issue—something that should not be ignored. The check-in process took an excessive amount of time, seemingly complicated by my TRICARE (military) insurance.

After approximately an hour, I was initially seen in fast track, where my vitals were taken and a urine sample was collected. However, after briefly hearing my symptoms, I was told they could not proceed with my care and was sent back to the waiting room. I then waited an additional two hours before being called again.

During the second evaluation, a nurse asked a few questions and directed me to another waiting area. A newly assigned nurse repeatedly asked me the same set of questions I had already answered multiple times, which reflected a lack of coordination and training.

Eventually, I was seen by a physician assistant who conducted a thorough evaluation. I appreciate his professionalism, as he asked appropriate questions and addressed my concerns effectively under the supervision of two physicians. Following the examination, I was informed that I would likely need blood work and a CT scan, and I was instructed to return to the waiting area.

After being called back again for the physicians to verify my symptoms before ordering the CT scan, I experienced the most difficult part of my visit. From approximately 8:17 PM to 1:58 AM, I waited for the CT scan. During this time, I remained seated in a chair with an IV line, experiencing ongoing abdominal pain, without being offered a bed, water, or food. The CT scan results did not come back in hours. The conditions were extremely uncomfortable and distressing.

It is concerning that patients are expected to endure 12–18 hours in the emergency department without adequate comfort or timely care. The facility consistently appears overcrowded, with insufficient space, poor cleanliness, and visible trash. Additionally, many staff interactions came across as dismissive and lacking compassion.

I hope this feedback highlights areas that require immediate attention, particularly regarding patient flow, staff training, adequate staffing,
communication, and overall patient care experience.

I would like to share my sincere appreciation for the exceptional care i received during my blood transfusion and surgery. From start to finish, my experience was truly outstanding.
Every member of the staff- nurses, doctors, and support personnel- was incredibly caring, kind, and patient. They made me feel comfortable and supported at all the time, which means so much during such an important and stressful experience.
I appreciated how throughly I was informed at every step of the process. The team took a time to explain each part of the procedure, answer my questions, and ensure i felt confident and at ease.Thank you to everyone involved for your professionalism, compassion, and dedication. I’m truly grateful for the excellent care I received .
Margo W.
My mom is currently admitted in the CCU due to cardiac arrest . When I learned she had to come here immediate no but her heart stopped. In the acute care center the team nurse and doctors was surprisingly caring . They moved her to the CCU and exception of 1 nurse who lied abt family staying or being in the room all the nurses have been caring towards my mother. The cardiology doctors and critical care doctors have been good but Nephrologist dept has been the worst communicators and also very pushy toward dialysis for my mom and almost feels like they are trying to turn her into a permeant patient to make money. Due to this I am giving 3 stars and mot 5 .. lets see the outcome and will update later.

Do yourself a favor and never ever come here. My mom fell at home. I was forced by the ambulance there. Upon arrival i requested a transfer when i found out she broke her hip. Fought for hours. No help. Said i would have to put her in my truck myself if i wanted to have a operation at another hospital. Against all laws in NYC to not handle a transfer. They refused to call another hospital and ask for a dr to accept her. Nice hispital. This is Sll true. No lies. Then put into part B of the emergency room because my mom 86yo with a trama pulled her urine thing out her underwear and knocked off her iv. Part b is for criminals and disorderly. She was there 48 hours. Terribly packed and no services. I stayed the whole time. I left for 1 hour to get food. I came back she was restrained to the bed by arm cuffs. 1 hour i left. A 86yo is cuffed. Surgery was Monday at 2pm after arriving 10pm on Friday. She became dehydrated and not fed and no info when surgery would be so You cant eat 12 hours before the surgery. Never informed of anything. After that she went to a after care area because there was no rooms for 2 days. The people were nice there. I kept telling the dr that you never see unless you request. I never left my moms side so this is TRUE….That my mom stomach is enlarged and i want to run all tests needed while here. Her my chart numbers were way off. They said looks normal. Nothing done. I kept asking nothing. . We then went to a room then to a rehab center where she has a i infection in her stool they found here. If i can Sue i will. I contacted my lawyer. Disgusting experience. No human should be treated like this. Especially at 86yo woman who fell
