Came here for lunch.

The crab and pork soup dumplings were delicious, though not as flavorful as other places.

The bok choy stir fry was tasty, though a bit soft. I wish they had a little more of a bite to them.

The chicken stir fried udon was pretty good.

One of the BEST soup dumpling restaurants in the city. Always very busy.
Authentic/juicy Bao and many other delicious dishes. Service is good and quick too. 👍

Since we couldn’t get a reservation at Din Tai Fung in New York, we decided to try Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao instead—and it turned out to be a great surprise. The soup dumplings and pan-fried buns were even more flavorful than expected, possibly even better! The prices were also very reasonable, and we were all very satisfied.

If you visit during peak weekend hours, expect a wait. To avoid it, plan to dine for late lunch or early dinner. The food was excellent, with great quality and quantity. Highly recommended! It’s a rare find to find food under $20 that also has Michelin guide recommendations.

Response from the owner

Hello PrakOnTrack. My name is Mary, thank you for your thoughtful review! We're delighted you enjoyed the food, value, and overall experience. We appreciate the recommendation and look forward to serving you again soon!

Found this restaurant walking by, quickly looking at some reviews dlfelt ensured that they have vegetarian options. While that is true it is far from be able to order from all parts of the menu. There is one noodle dish one dumpling kinda establishment. No veggy bao options at all. We ordered scallion pancake, the noodles and soup dumplingsfor desert the u be bao. I loved the scallion pancakes my dining partner loved the soup dumplings. The service was fast and friendly. The food fresh, and interesting. Good experience overall.

Response from the owner

I had a really good experience at Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao. The food was flavorful, authentic, and came out quickly. The soup dumplings were amazing, especially the truffle xiao long bao — rich, juicy, and full of flavor. Definitely a must-try if you visit! The restaurant was busy but the service was still efficient and friendly. Great spot for dumplings in New York.

Response from the owner

Our first meal after landing in NY and it hits just right. Super impressed with their scallops & pork soup dumplings, black pepper beef and spicy beef tripes.

The pepper beef was so tender and juicy, probably my favorite bite of the day:) Prices are fairly reasonable and affordable.

Staffs are kind and fast paced despite the rush hour.

Response from the owner

Just discovered this soup dumplings place and will be a new go to place every time I get back to Manhattan! You can see them making the dumplings fresh from the street window. Taste was delicious as the soup gushes into your mouth. 😋 Service was friendly and quick.

I was staying near by and decided to try this place because of the reviews and Michelin mentions. I had high expectations for the soup dumplings which were juicy and had interesting flavors, but weren't as well executed as I would have imagined. I'm a simple girl who would have been happy if they could do with a very solid classic pork one. I tried the braised beef noodles as well which were just ok. The restaurant was very spacious and I didn't have to wait to get in.

Response from the owner

Hello Alice. My name is Mary, we’re so happy you chose to visit based on the reviews and Michelin mention! It means a lot that you had a great experience.

I just visited Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao and I’m still thinking about how amazing it was. Seriously, this place is a must-visit.

The food was absolutely incredible—everything we ordered hit. We got the hot and sour soup, chicken dumplings, and dry noodles, and even though it didn’t seem like a lot at first, it ended up being perfect for two people. We left full and completely satisfied.

On top of that, the customer service was just as great as the food. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel smooth and welcoming.

As for the price, I’m not sure how it compares for everyone, but for me, it was definitely worth it. For the quality and how filling the food was, it felt like a really good deal.

Overall, this spot exceeded expectations. Amazing food, great service, and a really satisfying experience. I’ll definitely be back!

Response from the owner

Hi Marly, I’m Mary. We’re so happy you had an amazing experience and enjoyed everything from the hot and sour soup to the dumplings! Can’t wait to welcome you back.

I absolutely love this place. The soup dumplings are top notch and easily the highlight of the menu. I also really liked the pork wontons with the spicy peanut sauce. The sauce has great flavor and makes the dish stand out.

The scallion pancake is a great appetizer to share with the table. The fried rice is also really good. Honestly, I’ve liked almost everything I’ve tried here so far. The udon noodles were solid but fairly average and didn’t stand out as much as some of the other dishes.

If you’re coming here for the first time, I’d focus on the soup dumplings and some of the smaller dishes to share. I’ve been back several times and I’ve consistently had really good experiences. Do family style!

Response from the owner

Hi Rylan, I'm Mary. Thanks for the glowing review! We love that you enjoyed the soup dumplings and all your favorites.

It’s Chinese New Years. Gotta have soup dumplings to celebrate, right? Went to Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao on 33rd St in NYC. It is right across the street from the Empire State Building.

I don’t know if it’s always packed on a Tuesday evening or if the New Years’ thing drew others like me. There was a line at 8:30p. Got a table by 9p. Line settled down after about 9:30p.

The place proudly displayed all of their Michelin awards. I’d be a tough Michelin critic: what sets this place apart from any other?

If this is “the best,” I’ve basically decided that a soup dumpling is a soup dumpling.

I tried their Lucky Six where you get one of each flavor. They should take a page from Russell Stovers playbook and give you a map like finding which chocolate is which. I could probably guess which one is which, but it’d be good to know. I mean, they’re color coded. On the other hand, there was not a huge difference one from the other. The truffle one stood out by taste. But not necessarily in a good way.

I tried their pork, shrimp, & mushroom Shanghai Siu Mai. I’ve never had a shui mai w rice in it. The rice overwhelmed the dish.

Also had the Shrimp, Pork & Vegetable Wontons in Spicy Peanut Sauce. The dumplings were good, but the peanut sauce was bitter. Very heavy peanut flavor w plenty of salt and not much spice. Tasted like ballpark salted-in-the-shell peanuts. Not bad, but unusual.

I left most of the peanut wontons, 2 of the 4 shui mai, and four of the five pork soup dumplings.

Overall: meh. Didn’t live up to the hype for me. Maybe Los Angeles spoiled me.

we ordered the shanghai stir-fried udon, pork and veg wonton w spicy peanut sauce, and scallop and pork dumplings. the wonton came with 8 pieces and the dumplings came with 6, which was delicious and more than enough for two people. the entire meal was around $40. the staff was very friendly, and the best part about this place is that they played red velvet b-sides.. 10/10 so peak

Response from the owner

Hey Luvvierim, I'm Mary from Nan Xiang. We’re so glad you enjoyed the udon, wontons, and dumplings! Love that you appreciated the music too—come back soon for another 10/10 experience!

Seems a bit overhyped. I was brought here twice by two different non-Asian friends who swore it was a great spot for xiaolongbao, but it didn’t live up to my expectations. The food is overall quite fatty/oily and lacks depth of flavor.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the Abalone & Pork Soup Dumplings and the Ube Red Bean Bao (dessert). It’s also still a decent option for an affordable lunch or dinner with friends (around 50€ for two people). Service is fast, though not particularly friendly.

Response from the owner

minimal wait time to be seated, especially on a busy Saturday walking in.
Ordering food was super easy. I like that the menu had pictures of each dish. Food was typical. Was not a fan of the beef noodle soup—it lacked flavor. The shu mai was just ok. The soup dumplings could have had more filling in them. I enjoyed the chicken soup dumplings more than their signature one. Their ube bao for dessert was also delicious. And, the iced soy milk was a hit!

Response from the owner

Hi Stephanie, I’m Mary. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations too.
