⭐️ 1 Star — Disrespectful & Unacceptable

I ordered avocado toast and received plain toast with random avocado chunks, tomatoes, and hard-boiled eggs on the side (see photo). That is not avocado toast.

When I called to explain, a man named Larry (who I was told is a manager) completely lost his temper. He spoke to me in a demeaning, sexist way, repeatedly calling me “honey” and “baby.” He refused to give his name when asked.

He told me to return the food for a refund, but in person he was even worse—shoving the menu at me and saying he “doesn’t care” what avocado toast is, even after I showed standard examples. Other staff members told me he fights with them regularly.

The food was bad, but the behavior was worse. I will never return and strongly recommend avoiding Mirage Diner.
Response from the owner
Amanda,

First, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We truly appreciate the feedback.

Our “Amanda & Joyce’s Avocado Toast” was originally created at the request of a longtime guest who preferred sliced avocado, tomato, and hard-boiled egg served on the toast rather than mashed. That is the style we have traditionally prepared it in. However, we completely understand that many guests expect avocado toast to be mashed, and we recognize that this was not clearly communicated.

Because of feedback like yours, we are now offering and transitioning to a mashed avocado option as well, so guests can enjoy it the way they prefer.

More importantly, we are very concerned to hear about the way you were spoken to. Regardless of any menu misunderstanding, you should always be treated with respect. That is non-negotiable for us. We are addressing this internally.

We would truly appreciate the opportunity to make this right. If you decide to give us another chance, please ask for George, Nathan, or Peter so we can personally prepare your avocado toast exactly how you like it.

We value every guest and are committed to learning and improving.

— Mirage Diner Management
