Martha's Country Bakery is an absolute treasure. From the moment you walk in, the display cases full of beautiful cakes, pies, pastries, and cookies make it impossible to choose just one thing. The cozy, rustic-chic atmosphere feels warm and inviting perfect for a relaxed morning coffee or a sweet treat after dinner.

Their fruit tarts are legendary fresh, buttery, and piled high with seasonal berries. The cheesecake is creamy and rich without being too heavy, and the red velvet cake? To die for. Everything tastes homemade in the best way possible, and you can tell they use real, quality ingredients.

George!!! I stopped by Martha's Bakery today, and honestly expected more. A bakery needs passion and hands on leadership, not someone just walking in and out and driving his nice cars. The products tasted very average and lacked the freshness and character you expect from a neighborhood spot. Astoria has strong bakeries, so you really need to step up the quality if you want to stand out.

I don’t write reviews, but this is nuts. I came in earlier today, bought half a dozen cup cakes for my daughter’s 1st birthday, and walked home. By the time I got home 15 minutes later, the frosting on the two chocolate cupcakes melted off completely. Nothing wrong with the vanilla frosted cupcakes. Bummer, but I guess I’ll just walk back and swap them out.

I arrive back at Martha’s, and they were annoyed and suspicious that I was asking to exchange the two chocolate cupcakes, but to their credit they did exchange them after I spoke to the manager and showed my receipt proving I had just bought them. I wait a few minutes, and they hand me a bag with a cardboard box inside. Walk back home, open the box and what do I find? 5 cupcakes. How.

No time to go back again tonight. Strange and disappointing experience.

I’ve visited Martha’s Bakery many times, mostly for breakfast and also for my favorite dessert, their fruit tart. The prices are a little high, but the quality and experience still make it worth it. Yesterday, while I was there for breakfast, I accidentally spilled my tea on the table. Georgina, as kind as always, quickly cleaned everything up and served me more tea.

Thank you, Georgina, for always being so attentive and thoughtful. Your kindness makes the experience even more pleasant.

Great for sitting inside or out or for carry out. Really delicious (and big) muffins, savory pastry and red velvet cheese cake. Everything tastes as good as it looks and there's so many options

We had a very disappointing experience at Martha’s Bakery in Astoria. We’ve been here multiple times before and always enjoyed it, which made this visit even more upsetting.
When we arrived, we asked a staff member if the brownie cookie contained nuts due to an allergy. We were told there was a “50-50 chance” it either did or didn’t, which didn't provide a clear or helpful answer. My boyfriend, who has a nut allergy, ended up taking a bite based on that uncertainty, and the cookie did, in fact, contain nuts, as shown in the photo above. This could have been very dangerous.
We also purchased the M&M Oreo cookie, which was great at first, but we then found a piece of plastic inside it (also shown in the photo). This is completely unacceptable from a food safety standpoint.
To make matters worse, we tried to reach out twice to address this situation and received no response.
Overall, we are extremely disappointed. We’ve had good experiences here in the past, but this was a major letdown. We hope this is taken seriously and addressed appropriately.

I love the variety of dessert options they have but they seriously need to hire a better host. She was rude and was constantly on her phone. Since she had a nasty attitude, I decided to do take out instead. Please have her retrained for that position or get someone else.

please note all the toppers I PROVIDED.
I Got a cake for my daughter’s birthday, they forgot to write the message i gave. Day of pick up i had to ask for it… they wrote it in a blue i did not ask for and wrote it on top when i specifically asked for it on the front because i had toppers. please note i was not charged extra for the “decorations”

I tried to order another cake today- asked for an explanation of the “extra” charges for decorating the cake… they said anything more would be extra. not sure how that makes sense if you’re ordering a custom cake it shouldn’t start at $60 if that’s the case. so you’re going to give me a cake with no piping just flat starting at $60? with all that being said i was going to pay it because i actually like their cake and i wanted it… but..the manager was rude and it caused me to just walk out. there’s way too many bakeries out here to feel disrespected while also pay $120 for an 8 inch heart cake with simple piping. you guys need to reevaluate how you treat people.

i was dismissed when i walked up to the manager, she was sitting where i was told to order the cake last time. she told me i had to wait for someone to come to me (wait for the teens that work their to finish their convo) the place was empty. she went back to her phone. and then surprise had to come help me anyway.

My Absolute Favorite Cake Shop in the USA! 🎂✨
I cannot say enough good things about this place. It is, without a doubt, my favorite cake shop in the entire country. They have been a part of every major milestone in my life, and they never fail to impress.

Cramped seating with mediocre desserts. We had the cheesecake, fudge cake, and stuffed peanut butter cookie. The best by far was the stuffed peanut butter cookie. It was served warm with lots of gooey peanut butter in the center. It was pretty good! The fudge cake was dry and stiff like it was sitting in the case for a week. The frosting was good though. My husband didn’t think the cheesecake was good. I’d possibly give it another shot and order another peanut butter cookie, but won’t go out my way to come again.

I recently stopped into Martha’s Country Bakery in Astoria and tried a few desserts. I had the Vegan Carrot Cake ($9.75 per slice), the Nutty Apple Cheesecake ($7.95), and the Pecan Cheesecake Bar ($7.95).

The cheesecakes were absolutely incredible—rich, creamy, and easily some of the best I’ve ever had. That said, the price point felt a little steep for a single slice/bar, especially compared to other bakeries in the area.

The Vegan Carrot Cake, on the other hand, was a bit of a letdown. The cake itself was decent, but the icing lacked that classic cream cheese flavor that really makes carrot cake shine. It felt like it was missing the signature element that makes the dessert so memorable.

Overall, it’s a nice spot if you’re looking for some excellent cheesecake and don’t mind paying premium prices. For me, it landed in the middle—great quality in some areas, but not consistent enough across the board to rate higher

I recently visited this bakery and was really impressed. The customer service was excellent—staff were friendly, attentive, and made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. I decided to try the Napoleon cake, and it was absolutely delicious. The pastry layers were perfectly crisp, the cream was rich and smooth, and the balance of sweetness was just right. Overall, a wonderful experience that I’d happily recommend to anyone with a sweet tooth

Stopped by Martha’s Country Bakery and got a slice of Triple Chocolate cake. The flavor was rich, with a nice balance of sweetness and cocoa bitterness. The cake was fresh and had a soft texture. I was pleased with it.

Not recommended.

Berry Napoleon - the puff layer was so soft and soggy. Didn’t expect to have a soggy napoleon and was so disappointed. I was looking for a crunchy one.

Ekmek - the kataifi at the bottom was very soggy. Expected to have a crunchy kataifi layer but was disappointed as well.

Pecan Cheesecake - pecan was not crunchy. Taste of cheesecake was okay.

Had an amazing time catching up with friends at Martha's Bakery in Astoria. I enjoyed a decadent chocolate layer cake and sipped on some fine herb tea served in a kettle, while my friends went for coffee and hot chocolate with a delicious marble cheesecake. Every bite and sip was pure bliss, elevating our chill hangout to a memorable culinary experience. What really set the atmosphere, apart from the treats, was the service. Our waitress was not only super nice, making us feel incredibly welcome, but also had a charm and style that added a special touch to our visit. Martha's Bakery is a perfect for those moments when you crave sweetness in both your cup and your company. Can't wait to go back!
