I caved and finally gave in to the SATC hype. The banana pudding was a little too sweet for my liking. You'll love it if you REALLY love bananas; otherwise, it's a hit or a miss.

Visited Magnolia Bakery in the West Village while in Manhattan, and this spot absolutely lived up to the hype. Magnolia Bakery is famous for its Banana Pudding, so that was the main thing we came to try, and it was definitely worth it. We ordered the classic Banana Pudding along with the Carrot Cake Pudding, and both were incredible.

The Banana Pudding was super creamy, light, and full of fresh banana flavor. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and texture, and you can immediately understand why it’s one of New York’s most iconic desserts. The Carrot Cake Pudding was also amazing, combining the flavors of carrot cake with a rich creamy pudding texture. The hints of cinnamon and cream cheese flavor made it unique and really delicious.

The bakery itself is pretty small and cozy, with a classic old-school New York bakery feel. There isn’t really seating inside, so after grabbing our desserts we walked over to the park across the street, sat down, and enjoyed everything there. Honestly, that made the experience even better. Sitting outside in the West Village with Magnolia Bakery pudding felt like the perfect New York dessert experience. Definitely a must-visit spot when in Manhattan.

Hmmmm well I had high hopes after hearing the rave reviews but was left feeling meh. Not bad but nothing impressive.

The chocolate cupcake was good. The banana pudding had a great fluffy texture, however the flavor was lacking. Service was fast despite them being busy.

This was just an average sweet treat experience.

I’m a big fan of Magnolia Bakery and have purchased from multiple locations, which is why this experience was so disappointing.

I arrived to this location on 5/1/2026 approximately at 10:40pm. There was a rush 8 customers before me but still saw several banana puddings still available. I purchased a medium and immediately noticed it was almost entirely whipped cream and Nilla wafers, there was no actual pudding or banana.

I went back inside to let the cashier know, and instead of offering help, I was met with a sarcastic response saying the pudding was “there, surrounding the cup,” despite me showing them that there was no actual pudding present.

Since nothing was offered to resolve the issue, I purchased a second medium pudding hoping the first was just a mistake. Unfortunately, the second one was exactly the same, again, just whipped cream and wafers.

I’ve attached a photo for reference. You can clearly see there is no pudding present, and the wafers are still crunchy instead of soft, which confirms they were never properly layered with pudding.

To make matters worse, I brought a group of 8 people and everyone made a purchase, so this was not a small visit. Overall, this felt like a complete lack of quality control and customer service.

Really disappointing experience. I would not recommend this location if you’re expecting the standard Magnolia Bakery quality or basic customer care.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't get the hype. It's smelled kind of chemically sweet in the shop and the banana pudding was underwhelming. I just didn't think it was real pudding, more like...banana whipped topping? I actually prefer Golden Corral's. That said, I'm in the minority because it seems like everyone else loves this place.

It had a nice time strolling into this bakery, they had many dessert options, heavy cake or some lighter snack options. The service was also friendly and sharp, Eli (EE-ly) who served us was pleasant an attentive even when my daughter wasn't sure what she wanted, he made sure she left the bakery happy.

Stopped by the original Magnolia Bakery in NYC and had to try the famous banana pudding. The bakery itself is small, charming, and has that classic New York feel you can tell it’s the original spot. The banana pudding was really good. Super creamy, fresh bananas, and the vanilla wafers were perfectly soft without being mushy. It’s definitely a solid dessert and lived up to what I expected. Is it the best thing I’ve ever had? Probably not. But it’s tasty and worth trying at least once, especially if you’re already in the area. Glad I stopped in.

We came for that famous banana pudding! They obviously have other options as well. The pudding was superb! It wasn't too busy inside, staff were friendly. We had to grab and go as we had to make it back to midtown. Great place with some great banana pudding!

Was craving something sweet and I passed by. I've had the banana pudding in the grand central location (it was great but I'm not sure it lived up to the extreme hype - still great to try though), so I decided to try something different. The caramel pecan cheesecake caught my eye, so I went with it.

When I first picked it up it looked large, but let me tell you, I INHALED it. It was sooo gooood! The cake itself was creamy, sweet, and subtly tart, balanced by the buttery, dark sweetness of the caramel and the crunchy nuttiness of the pecans. The crust on the bottom tied everything together, leaving a very strong impression. I wish I got two! Granted, I was pretty hungry after walking all day so take this with a grain of salt. I know the banana pudding is the quintessential magnolia item, but do consider picking one of these badboys up, it's a sleeper hit I promise!

Everyone on the internet has been raving about the Magnolia Bakery banana pudding for forever, and I decided I couldn't miss out on my recent trip to NY.

Unfortunately, I didn't understand the hype; the pudding wasn't exceptionally flavourful, but rather mellow. That alone is fine with me, however, the biscuits inside also weren't soft enough for my liking. It felt as if it was just made and thrown in the fridge, without having time to soak in any of the moisture. I would understand that they're very busy, but I still don't think they should sacrifice quality for sales.

Overall, I believe that places in Toronto such as Rosie's Burger offer a more delicious banana pudding, at a cheaper cost as well.

I had the banana bread pudding which I normally don't enjoy because of the artificial banana flavor but this one was really fresh and you can actually tasted the fresh bananas. It was not to Sweet. Really creamy and tastie, I would definitely visit magnolia again!!

Response from the owner

Food: 5 Stars
Service: 5 Stars
Ambience: 4 Stars
Value: 5 Stars
Sanitary: 5 Stars
Overall: 4.8 Stars

As someone visiting from Toronto, I finally made my way to Magnolia Bakery — and wow… consider me officially addicted. I tried their famous banana pudding and OH. MY. GOODNESS. I understand the hype now. The moment I took my first bite, I instantly regretted not getting a bigger tub. It’s perfectly moist, not overly sweet, and packed with real banana chunks that make every spoonful taste fresh and comforting. Truly the definition of a “must-try” when you’re in New York.

Based on the staff’s recommendation, I also tried their apple crisp pudding, and honestly? Zero regrets. It has real apple slices, the most satisfying texture, and a warm, cozy flavour that tastes like a hug in dessert form. Magnolia absolutely nails their puddings — balanced, flavourful, and just indulgent enough without being heavy.

The service was lovely, the shop smelled like heaven, and everything felt welcoming and nostalgic. If (more like when) I come back to New York, I will be making a beeline straight to Magnolia Bakery before doing anything else. Their puddings alone are worth the trip.

Maybe next time I’ll branch out and try their cakes — because if they’re anything like their puddings, I already know I’m in for a treat.

xx kellychan360

Skip the pudding and go for the cupcakes!!

It's a nice spot with friendly staff.
- The pudding is overrated. Tried both the original and apple crisp, the latter I liked the least. For me it felt a lot like whipped cream.
- The cupcakes was a welcoming surprise! Tried chocolate and red velvet, both very light and tasty. I recommend them for sure!

Magnolia Bakery is one of those spots that feels like a true New York moment. It is cozy, welcoming, and the kind of place that manages to be both iconic and genuinely good. Everyone talks about the banana pudding, and for good reason. It is creamy, light, and unlike anything else. But my personal recommendation is the chocolate cupcake with vanilla icing. It is simple, perfectly balanced, and exactly what a classic cupcake should taste like.

The bakery itself is always clean and the staff are friendly, which makes the experience feel easy and enjoyable, even when it is busy. It is also across the street from a great little bookstore, which makes stopping by feel like you are stepping into one of those quintessential New York City days where everything lines up just right.

Magnolia works for just about everyone. It is great for kids, but just as fun for adults who want a sweet treat or a nostalgic moment. Whether you are local or visiting, it is a must-go and a place you will probably find yourself returning to again and again.

This is the viral bakery that I have been wanting to try for a long time. I absolutely loved it. They are known for their banana pudding and it was delicious. I went during the fall time and was able to try a few of their fall flavored pasties. I got a pumpkin cheesecake, a regular cheesecake and I believe it was some type of gingersnap pastry as well. Everything was so good. There isn't seating inside but across the street there's an area with benches I sat on to enjoy. 10/10 I would come again!
