I wanted to try the unique lonche banados so I came to Macario.

A mom & pop shop specializing in th Guadalajara sandwich and other staple Mexican dishes.

The interior is nice. There’s a good amount of seating plus a bar to enjoy your food. They’ve done a good job at transforming the space through the art work and overall layout of the space.

I like how the menu visually guides you through ordering your lonches.

I started with lonches bañados. That gets drenched in tomato sauce. The bread soaks up all the juices. Plus you can taste the spice on this one. Be prepared to get messy.

Then I had the lonches prensados using the same sauce but only inside the sandwich so it was more balanced. Not as spicy as the first one and the bread is crunchy.

Lastly I tried the plain lonches that has no sauce. I love how refreshing the sandwich is by itself. They do a good job at providing fresh ingredients all through out.

All the ingredients are freshly made ensuring that the quality is there.

It was a learning experience trying these lonches.

I would definitely come back to check out the other Mexican dishes they have to offer.

Macario Mexican Loncheria in Park Slope promises a taste of Guadalajara, the kind of place where a lonche is more than a sandwich. It is a memory carried across borders, a story told through bread, sauce, and the pride of a regional tradition. That promise is what pulled me 2.2 miles from Prospect Lefferts Gardens after seeing the place all over TikTok.

When I arrived, the room was empty. The quiet made the space feel like it was waiting for its own story to begin. Still, the staff greeted me with warmth and genuine hospitality. Service here is the kind that makes you feel like the restaurant wants to belong to the neighborhood and wants you to belong inside it.

I ordered the Pork Prensado. The bread was the star, a beautiful baguette like birote with real character. The first bite should have been the emotional entry point, the moment where flavor connects to memory, but the filling never reached that level. The pork was slightly mushy and very under seasoned, gringo level under seasoned. The cheese was barely noticeable and the sauce needed more depth and seasoning to carry the dish. It looked and smelled delicious, but the flavors never rose to the story the dish was trying to tell.

Still, the intention behind Macario matters. Loncherias are about comfort, identity, and belonging. They are places where workers grab a quick bite that tastes like home. Bringing that tradition to Park Slope is meaningful, and the menu shows ambition. Prices sit around the mid teens, which feels fair if the flavors land the way the concept promises.

If I lived nearby, I would come back and try something else. The chicken or panela versions might show the balance I was missing. But I would not make the same 2.2 mile trek again from Lefferts Gardens.

Rating: 3.4 out of 5

I stopped by yesterday with my brother in the afternoon and Marshall, the owner, was awesome and so welcoming. He gave us samples of the macario sauce and the birote. He took his time to talk to us and go over the menu and make sure we were comfortable and well fed. Everything we ordered was so tasty and fresh. Chicano Batman was playing in the background which amplified the already great atmosphere. We ordered El Macario, guacomole con chicharrones, and the key lime frozen pie, which were all amazing. I'll definitely be coming back to eat at Macario again. Marshall is doing something really special there.

Smothered Mexican influenced sandwiches?! I mean.. it’s a yes from me. The bread is a wonderful French baguette that comes from another great spot in Williamsburg but you’ll have to ask them for their source I won’t spill it here. You can choose between 3 meats you want on your sandwich we picked chicken and spill the sandwich cause we also order nachos which were also great. I would give this place a visit I’ve never seen/had anything like it and it was very satisfying.

Response from the owner

We appreciate your detailed review Christian. Happy to hear you enjoyed our offers mgs, made with passion and love. Looking to serving you in the near future.

This place is awesome!!! We went today and the staff are so nice and welcoming. If it’s your first time, they give you a sample of their bread (made at a nearby bakery just for them) and sauce (which is so freaking good). My husband and I split one of the lonches bañados as per the staff’s suggestion, and thank goodness we did because it’s enormous (the pic shows 1/2 of the sandwich). It’s kind of like an enchilada but with delicious sourdough-like bread instead of tortillas. It was so delicious. Chips and guac were also great. Huge portions at very affordable prices, and such a unique meal that you can’t get at other Mexican restaurants. I highly recommend.

Response from the owner

So glad you had a good experience at Macario and enjoyed our lonches Julie! Thanks for your review and we hope to serve you in the near future!
Macario serves an authentic style lonche (sandwich) specifically from Guadalajara, Jalisco, MX. The bread is delicious and crunchy, the shredded pork is juicy, but the smokey tomato sauce is key! Bañado means “bathed” so be prepared to drench your lonche into some delicious sauce. If it gets a little soggy just know that’s a feature of the signature style, not a bug.

If you like cheese, make sure to try a lonche prensado or ask them to add Panela to your lonche! It’s one of México’s most popular cheeses.

And as you enjoy your food make sure to enjoy the posters and decor hanging up calling back to Mexico’s golden age of cinema. Some posters are of the titular masterpiece Macario from 1960!

Saludos de parte de un tapatío en Brooklyn!

My girlfriend and I first stopped by Macario on a whim and we’ve already been back since. Their signature Macario sandwich is truly one of a kind: warm, soaked in a rich, flavorful sauce and served in a tin, where you eat it with a spoon. The pork is my favorite but the chicken is also fantastic.

The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly and the whole place runs smoothly. The vibe is lively without being hectic - perfect for a quick lunch, a casual dinner, or whenever you’re craving something comforting and unique.

Macario is easily one of the most distinctive spots in Park Slope and we’ll definitely keep coming back. Could not recommend it enough!

Response from the owner

Thank you for your review Manny and so glad to hear you had a good experience at Macario! We pour our love and passion to our food hoping all will appreciate it. We look forward to seeing you in the near future!

This is a new casual spot that’s worth a try! Basically, it’s a sandwich so saucy you need to eat with a spoon! Only 3 sandwiches on the menu but it’s quality over quantity here and they’re all incredible and the portions are humongous. The sauce - a family recipe from Guadalajara - is so flavorful, with just a touch of spice. Somehow it was perfect for both my husband who loves spice, and me who’s terrified of it. It was delicious. They also have quesadillas and the best guac in town. The owner and staff are all incredibly helpful and friendly (shout out to Paola and Diana!). The owner mentioned they’ve been open just under a month and have more plans for hosting the works of local artists on their walls. This place has the makings of becoming a neighborhood gem.

Response from the owner

So glad you enjoyed our food Katie! We pour our heart’s into sharing the food we love. Hope to serve you again soon!

The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming when you come in. They go into great detail about how they prepare the food as well as how to enjoy the sandwich in the traditional Mexican way. The sauce is phenomenal but for those who don’t want the sandwich smothered I would recommend getting it in the side to dip.

Response from the owner

To read you delighted with our food warms our heart! Our mission is to share that what we love with passion and service. Hope to serve you again!
