Kam Rai Thai is a must visit for anyone craving authentic Thai cuisine. The moment you walk in, the pleasing decor and beautiful aesthetics set a perfect dining mood. The servers are all friendly and highly attentive. Every dish is fresh, packed with vibrant flavors, and expertly seasoned with traditional Thai spices. The comforting tom yum and beef hot pot soups truly warmed the soul. The pad cha seafood dish was incredibly tasty and perfectly executed. Thanks to the generous portions and high quality I left the restaurant a satisfied and very full man.

We had an amazing lunch here! Nina was our server - she was kind, knowledgeable, personable. The flavors were incredible. Nina even described the history of the dishes and made some great recommendations. If you want authentic, flavorful Thai food, this is the place for you! Thank you Nina, we will be back :)

Response from the owner

I ordered red snapper through Uber Eats and went to pick it up at the restaurant. However, the male waiter who assisted me was quite unfriendly.

Based on other reviews and the menu photos, the dish is usually served with things like mango salad on top of the fish, but what I received only had the fish, sauce, and rice.

I had visited this place last year, and at least back then the staff were much nicer, so I don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon.

Response from the owner

Thank you for sharing your experience, Natsuki.

We’re sorry your visit didn’t meet your expectations, and your feedback will help us improve moving forward.

Sincerely, Kam Rai

The ambiance was chill and nice, the food was AMAZING, I loved everything we ordered. The lychee martini was very good. The service is top notch, everything about this place is top notch. UPDATE: I’ve been here 3 times more already and it’s still the best!

Food was delicious, ordered the crispy duck and we fought over the last bite. Oreo was a superb waiter, very fast, personable and friendly. Second time here and will certainly come back.

A great Thai restaurant at the northern part of Astoria. The place was not busy when we went. The food was delicious including the huge rib and plate of tender steak. Good versions of papaya salad and duck curry. Dishes came out hot and fast. Must visit for quality Thai food in the neighborhood.

A+ all around! Great service, our server, Oreo, made great recommendations and his service was top tier! Tried Crispy Duck Sam Rod, Nuea Yang (steak), Tom Yum Soup, Papaya Salad, and Roti Massaman. Not a single dish disappointed! Oreo did a great job of explaining each dish and ensured we were okay throughout. The atmosphere of the establishment is cozy and floral, relics of Thai life as wall art, great mix of music! This was by far the best duck dish I've ever tried, highly recommend this establishment! The prices, food, and service make this a true gem in today's times. Great bang for buck! Thank you!

Great food quality. We ordered curry puffs and chive pancakes to start. Pad see ew dish was flavorful. Pretty decor inside. Only recommendation is to put up some type of block or barrier so the table by the front isn't affected with the wind/cold whenever the door opens. Delicious meal all around!

My family and I chose to dine here based on the positive reviews, but unfortunately our experience did not reflect the restaurant’s high rating.

We called ahead and made a reservation for 7:15 PM and arrived on time. Upon arrival, no one greeted or acknowledged us. After standing and waiting for about 10 minutes, a male server finally approached me. I informed him that we had a reservation, and he asked how many people. When I replied “four,” he walked away into the kitchen without any explanation. I assumed he was checking on our reservation, but instead, he returned and continued cleaning glasses and handling delivery orders without giving us any update.

After waiting another 10 minutes, I approached him again to ask about our reservation. He told us that all the tables were reserved, even though there was clearly an open table for four available. He then told us it would be another 15-minute wait. At that point, we were very disappointed, especially since we were trying to celebrate a birthday and seriously considered leaving to dine elsewhere. What’s the point of taking a reservation then?

When we were finally seated, the same server simply dropped the menus on the table and walked away without allowing us to sit first or offering any greeting, which felt very unprofessional. He also did not double check if our table was even ready as it still had a cleaning product on it. Unfortunately, the service did not improve during ordering. When the server came back, I greeted him with a “hi!”, but he did not acknowledge us and responded with “yup,” clearly rushing us to order. While we were placing our order, he became distracted by a female coworker who had just entered, smiling and laughing with her instead of paying attention to us. As someone who works in hospitality, this was extremely frustrating and unprofessional.

The food was also disappointing. The dishes were dry and lacked flavor. Thai food is typically well seasoned and flavorful, and even though we asked for mild spice, there was virtually no spice or depth of flavor at all. The only things we enjoyed were the ice cream dessert and the restaurant’s aesthetics.

The space itself is very small and only had two servers. The female server was noticeably kinder and more attentive, which we appreciated. However, given the size of the restaurant, we did not expect such poor service.

Overall, our experience was extremely disappointing. I truly do not understand how this restaurant has such high reviews. I would recommend going elsewhere for better service and food.

Great food and service, the papaya salad was one of the best I’ve had here in the states it reminded me of Thailand level. The fried chicken and red snapper were so juicy and flavorful with a nice crispy exterior. Great spot and I’ll definitely be returning.

Most delicious Thai meal I've ever had! Prices are reasonable and the cocktails were delicious! I tried the old fashioned and the eggnog cocktails. Highly recommend! Also reasonably priced! Decor was grand! I enjoyed my meal, the service and the ambiance! Will be returning!
