Amazing food and ambience. Staff was very attentive despite a packed restaurant during lunch hour.

Everything was seasoned to perfection, especially for the beef brisket potatoes.

Also the desserts were great, not too sweet!

Will definitely come back here again.

Not spicy enough. Good price. Good portions but flavor was missing. Seems like a “mainstream” kind of spot but overall wasnt horrible. Service was meh. The tea was very good though. Go for lunch as dinner it gets very busy and you will need reservations.

Response from the owner

Dear THE GOOD LIFE

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback—we truly appreciate it.

We’re glad to hear you found the portions generous, prices good, and especially enjoyed the tea. The spicy crispy chicken was super addictive — crispy on the outside, tender inside, with just the right balance of chili and Sichuan peppercorn.
The pickled fish soup was rich and flavorful, with a clean sourness (not artificial at all), and the fish was fresh and not fishy. Portion size was also generous.
The noodles looked simple but were surprisingly good — well-seasoned with minced meat and sauce, and honestly hard to stop eating.

Overall, the flavors feel quite authentic compared to what you usually find in NYC. Service was smooth and nothing to complain about.

Would definitely come back and bring friends.

Response from the owner

Dear Tomato Xiao

Thank you for such a detailed and thoughtful review—it really means a lot to us.

We’re so happy you enjoyed the spicy crispy chicken—that balance of crunch, heat, and Sichuan peppercorn is exactly what we aim for. Glad the pickled fish soup stood out as well; keeping that clean, natural sourness and fresh flavor is very important to us. Had a great experience at Jiang Nan. The atmosphere is elegant and cozy, and the service was attentive. The food tasted authentic and well-balanced, especially the Jiangnan-style dishes. The crab roe tofu was especially delicious and perfect with rice. Overall, great value for the quality — would definitely come back

Nice, clean restaurant in Chinatown with high quality food. We had the soup dumplings with the four different types. The standout to me was the one with crab. The truffle was more fragrant in the delicate egg custard. The pea sprouts were super fresh and ambiance and service were great 👍

First time trying this restaurant and it was a great experience. We ordered the lotus root, fried milk, shredded eel, and fried mushrooms—everything was delicious. The shredded eel was especially impressive, very authentic and something you don’t often find in New York. All the fried dishes were perfectly crispy without being greasy.
The flavors were well-balanced, not too salty or too sweet. Would definitely come back!

The amazing service bumped this review up! We ordered 8 dishes, loved 6 (crab roe tofu had plenty of crab meat, crispy beef with lime was surprisingly one of our favs, the pea sprout dish was sooo fresh to name a few). The dongpo pork belly was too lean & the dan dan noodles was slightly overcooked, but both were promptly taken off the bill the moment we gave them feedback. They also comped us a dessert that was phenomenal (white wood ear mushroom & peach gum). Overall would definitely come back!!

The restaurant displays Michelin notes from 2022-2025 at the entrance. It's usually busy and may require a short wait. The interior is clean and traditional rather than fancy. The steamed dumplings were tasty.
Overall, a solid spot for Chinese cuisine lovers.

Fun atmosphere but very packed on a Monday afternoon, which speaks to its popularity. Lucky we had what looked to be the last table available. Had the best soup dumplings here. Very fresh with thin wrappers. Broth was tasty too. The spicy black fish was bold and flavorful, super delicious. The sizzling cumin lamb was crazy good. Highly recommend if you like that flavor profile -- cumin, cilantro, hot peppers. Don't miss out on the free cabbage dish. Looks deceptively simple, but like everything else, packed with wonderful flavors. It's spicy with a nice hint of sesame oil, and all the ingredients were super fresh and crunchy. I added that into my to-go bag so i didn't let it go to waste! Cocktail drinks were alright. Definitely very strong and gorgeous to look at, but what I got didn't have much flavor besides straight up baijiu. I liked how the menu was all on an iPad with pictures of each dish. And when you're ready, a wait staff comes to your table immediately to confirm your order and asks for any allergies. Quite efficient. Would come back again!

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner. We’ve been wanting to come here for a while, and it was definitely worth the wait. Everything we ordered was so delicious. We got the half duck, crab and pork soup dumplings, and green beans. We also got the passion fruit cocktail and lychee mangosteen martini. Both drinks were also amazing

The menu here is very extensive and everything looked really good. We’re definitely coming back in the future to try more things.

We visited on New Year’s Eve, and even though the restaurant was crowded and clearly very popular, there was surprisingly no waiting time at all.

We ordered the full-sized Peking duck, which was absolutely fantastic. It came with scallions, cucumber, pineapple, white sugar, and their special house sauce, along with 20 pancakes for wrapping the duck—more than enough to enjoy every bite.

We also tried several vegetarian dishes, including shredded cabbage (手撕包菜), fried pumpkin, and baby bok choy (娃娃菜). Every dish was incredibly flavorful and well-prepared.

A special shout-out to the complimentary pickled cabbage—it was delicious and such a thoughtful touch.

Overall, everything was excellent, from the food to the efficiency of the service. Hands down, this was the best meal we had in NYC, and we just happened to stumble across it. I’m so glad we did—especially after eating at several “recommended” places that were honestly disappointing. This spot completely blew us away.

The bartender was incredible, and you could tell he took real pride in his craft cocktails—he even came over to our table to make sure everything was perfect. The entire staff was attentive, friendly, and genuinely focused on making sure we had an amazing experience.

Choosing from the menu was tough because everything looked so good. We ended up ordering the soup dumplings, bacon claypot rice, sweet and sour pork (perfectly breaded), green beans (my personal favorite—and my husband even ate them, which is rare!), and the kung pao chicken, which was absolutely to die for.

The lychee martini was fantastic, and the old fashioned was one of the best we had during our entire trip.

I would fly back to NYC just to eat here again. Absolutely phenomenal.

Heard great things about this place and their Peking duck and finally decided to come.

We came during lunch time and the place wasn’t too busy. The interior was nice and they had iPads for ordering which was convenient. The service on the other hand needs work. We ordered multiple dishes and the food was dropped off at the table, besides that no staff checked in on us afterwards.

The food was ok, the duck wasn’t the highlight of the dishes we had, but the tofu and the shrimp was pretty good. The cauliflower was also nicely made.

This is hands down the BEST Chinese restaurant in NYC — and I don’t say that lightly. If you’re looking for truly authentic Chinese food, Jiangnan is the place. What makes it so special is that it’s not limited to one region; here you’ll find dishes from Beijing, Shanghai, Canton, and Sichuan, all executed beautifully.

On our most recent visit, we ordered some of our all-time favorites: 清炒丝瓜 (stir-fried loofah), 江南小笼包 (soup dumplings), 红油抄手 (wontons in chili oil), 蒜泥白肉 (sliced pork belly with garlic sauce), 桂花糯米藕 (sticky rice stuffed lotus root with osmanthus), 黑松露脆豆腐 (crispy tofu with black truffle), and 银耳羹 (white fungus dessert soup). Every single dish was perfection — fresh, flavorful, and made with such care. The balance of flavors, the textures, and even the presentation always remind me of home-cooked meals but elevated to something unforgettable.

Jiangnan also holds a very special place in our hearts. When my husband and I were just dating, the very first family dinner with my mom happened here. Now, years later, after marriage and countless meals together, we just came back for what must be our 20th visit — again with my mom. The consistency and warmth of this restaurant have been part of our family story.

If you want an authentic, heartfelt Chinese dining experience in New York, this is your go-to spot. Jiangnan is not just a restaurant — it’s a place where memories are made, one incredible dish at a time.

Response from the owner
