My partner and I come here every chance we get; she loves the curry omurice! Great food, absolutely the friendliest staff, and drinks that always hit the spot. We, uh, kind of over-ordered food and our waitress was so nice in helping us pack up. We'll be back again soon, Izakaya Nana ;).

I recently visited this Japanese gem with my mom, who came in from New Hampshire, so it was a special night. After a bit of searching, we chose this place based on its 4.6 star reviews. When we arrived, there was a bit of a wait for a table so the hostess led us to the bar as a better, more convenient option. Once seated we struggled a bit with the menu it was super confusing, kind of like a treasure map so we switched to our phone to see the online version on Google.

After we decided, we waited about 20 minutes with no acknowledgment, no water, no check in so I had to grab a staff member. Now, I will say, once they came by, our waiter was super nice he took our order, though he didn’t know much about the Blanco tequila options, which was a little surprising. Still, the drink I ordered was very well crafted. I got a tequila sunrise with the perfect splash of cranberry and it was amazing.

As for the food, we couldn’t get the ramen because the broth wasn’t vegetarian, even though it was listed that way online. Our second server, Veneris, actually stepped in and really saved us she apologized for the delay, offered a free drink, and recommended a fantastic sushi roll. The service from Veneris really turned things around. The ambiance was also gorgeous beautiful napkins, great vibe, and the bathrooms louder music volume was a nice little bonus. Every bite of the food was a dream the edamame was an interesting combination of both spicy and cold to balance the temperature. The stuffed octopus appetizer was out of this world, one of the best I’ve ever had. And the heart-shaped sushi roll…. Top three sushi rolls I’ve ever had. My mom loved the dancing girl roll as well. We wrapped up with a matcha crepe cake dessert so good we took it home. Overall, despite a few hiccups, it was a fantastic experience. Big shoutout to Veneris and Wai and the team they really turned the night into something special. I absolutely recommend this place and will be back again soon! <3

Response from the owner

Hi! Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and detailed review. It’s wonderful to hear you chose this spot for a special night with your mom and that, despite a few hiccups, the team turned things around. Veneris stepping in with genuine care, Wai’s support, and the crafted drinks clearly elevated the evening. I’m glad the ambiance, creative dishes like the stuffed octopus and heart shaped roll, and that matcha crepe cake all made the night memorable. Your shoutout to the staff and recommendation really captures the spirit of the experience, and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

I saw tons of great reviews for Izakaya Nana, so my friends and I decided to check it out. We didn’t have a reservation and were quoted a 35 minute wait, but ended up being seated in under 10 minutes around 9 PM.

PSA: after 10 PM, I believe sake and oysters are buy one get one free!

Here’s everything we ordered:

Yakitori platter – 7 assorted skewers. Solid. The pork belly being the standout for me.

Fried soft shell crab – tasted good, but it seemed like only half a crab instead of a full one, which was a bit disappointing.

Karaage chicken – nicely fried and paired with a mayo based sauce, but the chicken was dry.

Sashimi platter – fresh and well presented. No complaints here.

Mentaiko cream udon – just OK. Not as creamy as expected and a bit bland. The dish didn’t really stand out.

Impossible Unadon – definitely worth it! Grilled eel with tamago over rice, generous portion.

Tornado omelette fried rice – the egg was slightly overcooked so it lacked that creamy texture, but the fried rice and curry had great flavor.

Overall, the food was good but not exceptional. I’ve had better, but it’s still worth trying.

Response from the owner

Hi Jamie. Thank you for sharing such a detailed review, we truly appreciate your thoughtful feedback. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the quick seating and the vibrant late-night atmosphere, along with the PSA on sake and oysters. We’re glad the sashimi platter and Impossible Unadon stood out, and that the yakitori and tornado omelette fried rice had highlights as well.

We also value your honest comments on the karaage chicken, mentaiko cream udon, and soft shell crab, as they help us improve. Your balanced perspective on the food and overall experience means a lot, and we’re happy you still found it worth trying. We look forward to welcoming you back again to explore more of the menu.

I've been craving Japanese izakaya food for so long and glad I stopped by. The yakitori was decently priced and there were a lot of options. The food was flavorful and the cocktails were beautiful and delicious. I will definitely go back with more friends! Just be sure to book a reservation or you will have to wait a while! We ended up sitting at the bar but the bartenders were so nice and fun!

The only thing I would suggest they rethink is the music selection. The volume was great, didn't distract from our conversation. But when I did catch the music in my ear it was the same birthday songs over and over? Maybe just the day I went. But othet than that the vibe was great. Decor was amazing!

Response from the owner

Hi KC. Thank you for your thoughtful review, we are delighted you enjoyed the flavorful yakitori, beautiful cocktails, and the fun, welcoming bartenders who made your evening special. We truly appreciate your note on the reservation process and the atmosphere, including the décor and music. Your feedback helps us improve, and we’re thrilled you plan to return with more friends for another great experience.

Step Into Japan Without Leaving NYC.

Private wooden-style rooms and traditional Japanese touches throughout — it really feels like you’ve stepped out of NYC.
And the food? Just as impressive.

The Smoked Salmon on the Fire arrives dramatically over open flames, adding that unforgettable tableside moment.

The Wagyu Foie Gras Uni is served over crisp toast and unveiled in smoke — buttery wagyu, silky foie gras, and briny uni layered together into the most luxurious bite of the night. Pure umami overload.

The Jumbo Maruyaki crab is rich and deeply savory, packed with sweet crab flavor in every bite.

The Signature Sampler is perfect if you want variety to start. And the creamy Mentaiko Udon is silky, savory, and addictive.

Come for the immersive vibe, stay for every indulgent bite.

Follow me @foodie.elite on IG and Tiktok for more great finds!

The vegetable skewers were delicious. If you like vegetables, I think the king mushroom skewer and zucchini skewers were good. If you like seafood, the Jump Lump Crab is good (it has mayo and avocado). The sweet potato dessert was a bit disappointing. I thought it would be bigger and more ice cream to it but… I guess not?

Response from the owner

Hi Bianca. Thank you for sharing your feedback and for highlighting the delicious vegetable skewers, seafood options, and overall variety. We’re glad you enjoyed the king mushroom and zucchini skewers as well as the Jump Lump Crab. We’re truly sorry to hear the sweet potato dessert didn’t meet your expectations and we appreciate your honesty, we will keep this in mind as we continue to improve. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

This place is crazy good. My friends and I ate so much we ended up in a food coma and stomaches stuffed up to the limit that we were about to vomit. The drinks are perfectly made, sweet but not too sweet. The food comes quickly. Maybe 5-10 min or so. The atmosphere is made just like Japan with nice features and nice service. Its outstandingly amazing!

Response from the owner

Hi Bella, as you said the food coma levels of deliciousness, perfectly balanced drinks, and a vibe straight out of Japan sounds like an outstanding night. We’ll be ready to welcome you back anytime.

The food was amazing , the menu is very limited I will be honest. They do serve sushi which we did not get. We went for a birthday party, which was a larger group and the space is very accommodating for big parties, the food came out at a decent time. Definitely an easy place to eat with your eyes .. cause that happened 😅. Would definitely go back again , everything was flavorful and delicious.

Response from the owner

Hi Kassandra, we appreciate your thoughtful feedback. It’s great to know the quality of the dishes, timely service, and spacious setting created a memorable dining experience for your group. We look forward to serving you again.

This izakaya spot in Flushing is a great place for late-night eats and drinking with friends! They have some solid BOGO deals for drinks in the evening and a wide selection of food. Service here is nice and pretty quick. The interior is also very decorated and I love how they have different private booths with anime themes for you to dine in.

We got their spicy dumplings, takoyaki, yakitori platter, sashimi platter, and truffle fries. Everything was pretty good but the yakitori platter stood out the most. Their takoyaki was also pretty solid as they filled it with octopus. As we came late at night, they had a BOGO hot sake option, which we definitely took advantage of.

Response from the owner

Hi Mia, thank you for sharing your experience at our izakaya in Flushing. We’re glad you enjoyed the food, especially the yakitori platter and takoyaki, and that the late-night BOGO sake deal added to your visit. It’s great to hear you liked the anime-themed booths as well. We look forward to welcoming you again.

Nice Japanese restaurant with great ambience and decor. I had yellowtail carpaccio, 1/2 dozen raw oysters, and some nigiri (which are sold as individual pieces). It was all very good. The oysters were on the small side, but they were a happy hour special at the bar. Bartender was very nice, but she was pretty busy.
I liked the place a lot and will probably hit it again before I leave.

Response from the owner

Hi Andrew. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the ambience, decor, and the variety of dishes you tried, and we appreciate your understanding during a busy happy hour at the bar while still having a great experience. We look forward to your next visit.
Came here with a friend for their birthday and this place absolutely exceeded my expectations. Inside the overall decor and central bar are amazing, and I loved the private dining booths located around the central bar. Great place to come with a date and enjoy some sushi or Korean food. I would absolutely come back to sample more of their menu, and I highly recommend checking out this establishment.

Response from the owner

So... I couldn't wait to try the new restaurant and I saw the long line clear very quickly! It's a popular spot that smells delicious and has very delicious options! The server for my table was the best ever - Mr. Calvin made sure I had a tour of the menu and met my mouth-pallet desires! Mr. Calvin is so knowledgeable of the menu and the traditional cultural flavors so whatever you're looking for he can match! I tried the delicious yellowtail that made me want to eat the skin and all the juice from the bones....lol 😂!!! Feel free to enjoy the deliciousness here at Izakaya Nana's! There is something delicious for everyone!!!

Response from the owner

Sounds like you had a great first visit, Tara. We’re happy to hear you enjoyed the food and that Calvin took such great care of you and helped guide you through the menu, thank you for sharing. We hope to welcome you back soon to enjoy even more of what Izakaya Nana has to offer.
I liked it so much I went twice in one day!! No joke. Workers were probably thinking, “Again..?”
So I have been putting this place off because I thought it was kinda pricey but lemme tell you. Fantastic. The food here is great. I had the lunch omakase and the sweet potato ice cream for lunch. All were sooo good. I never had sweet potato with ice cream. I was put off but I’m glad I tried something new. Then in the evening I went for dinner with my loved one and he liked it as well. Cocktails 10/10 so flavorful. Green tea is good. Skewers. The matcha crepes. Oysters. Don’t even get me started on the atmosphere. It is like mini Kyoto or mini Japan. A lovely gem in Queens!

Response from the owner

Hi Vic, we’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed everything, that made you visit twice in one day! It means a lot to know you loved the food, drinks, and atmosphere. Thanks for giving us a try and for sharing a wonderful review, and we can’t wait to welcome you again soon!
