This is definitely an experience that I believe everyone should try. When you look at the fresh seafood at the ordering counter, they ask how many people are in your group and then suggest how many shrimp and fish you need. The taste was mostly great, although the mussels were a bit small and the spicy sauce was quite strong. Overall, I would definitely bring a group of friends here. However, I wouldn’t recommend just two or three friends, as it might be too expensive.

The best lobster tale ever!! Worth for the wait! Wild sea bass tiger shrimp octopus all fresh from the grill. I squeezed fresh lemon on the top. SoooO Yummy 👌🏻
One of the first tasks you need to do unpon entering is to choose from the selection of seafood on the ice counters and in the tank. This is half the fun!
We picked scallops, octopus, a whole red snapper and giant prawns between a group of five of us.
We then went to our table and ordered a salad and mezze plate to go with it.
The food was delicious! Everything was nicely seasoned with spices, succulent and flavorful.
The green lemonade was also yummy - we got a pitcher to share.
I've heard it can be really busy, we were prepared to wait but when we visited on a Sunday around noon it was quiet with no wait.
The fried shrimp, the grilled shrimp, the scallops, the Herring salad, the roast eggplant, and the fried sardines, were all excellent. The Herring salad tastes like white fish, and is so good!! You wait in line to pick out what fresh seafood you want cooked, so prepare to wait, but the service is very organized. We also loved the mint lemonade.
I had a great experience at this restaurant. The fish was incredibly fresh, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. On top of that, the prices are very affordable, which makes it even better. Definitely a place I’d recommend if you’re looking for good seafood without spending too much.
One of the best seafood restaurants in the area. 2nd visit here and the quality is top tier. Items are always fresh and made to order per your requirements. Highly recommend their red snapper and octopus. Their mint lemonade juice is so refreshing and smooth(available as single serve or in a pitcher). Will definitely be a returning customer and would recommend to all seafood lovers.
The best seafood in NYC hands down. The food was so good, and the Egyptian seasoning made it even better. We started with Eggplant and seasoned fries. I started with one of the largest Lobster Tails I have ever seen. It was perfectly cooked with an amazing sauce to boot. The Fries and Gilled Shrimp were also perfectly cooked, with the Grilled Shrimp being my favorite. We had a seafood stew with a hint of heat that was delicious. Scallops have never been my favorite shellfish but I couldn't get enough. Lastly, we enjoyed the Snow Crab Legs. They were so big and juicy. We had so much food that we couldn't eat it all. The staff was extremely friendly and polite.
Wow wow wow! I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant and its staff. We were visiting from Georgia and we have friends that live in Astoria that took us here for dinner.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted very warmly by the host at the door and were filled in on the process. The seafood looked so fresh! The man at the counter was very patient with explaining the different ways the seafood could be prepared. We got the Seabass with heavy seasoning while others at our table got a variety of seafood such as salmon, shrimp, scallops, calamari. We also got some sides! Everything was delicious. This meal is truly one of the highlights of our trips to New York and we will definitely be coming back on our next visit!
We are so satisfied with the seafood, definitely fresh and served hot. You pick your entree as many as you want remember is by weight, nice and fresh. Unbelievable taste. It feels like you in the Florida Keys... Definitely will come back with friends and family. The price is very reasonable for the quality of food you are getting. You must try the scallops and the octopus 🐙🦑. Guaranteed you will come back. The staff was great.
Extremely disappointing experience. We were seated at a tiny table where our food could not fit properly. I requested another table, and a waiter assured us we would be moved when space became available. Yet customers who arrived after us were given that table instead.

When I asked why, we were told there was “no space available.” The lady waiter was rude and dismissive, telling us to “adjust,” and the owner’s behavior felt discriminatory and unprofessional. Because of this behavior, my entire mood and dinner were ruined—I couldn’t even concentrate on the food. Completely unacceptable service.
If you’re a seafood lover, this place is a must-visit. The food was absolutely incredible—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the meal made it completely worth the splurge.
The only downside was the wait. We had to wait quite a while just to get a table, and then another long stretch before our orders were taken. If you aren't in a rush, it’s a fantastic spot, but be prepared for a slow start to your evening!
What can I say about this place? The line says it all. We’re visiting New Jersey from New York and had to stop by Hamido’s. They serve authentic Egyptian-style seafood, and it absolutely delivers. We ordered a variety of dishes fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, grilled branzino, clams, and plenty of sides and everything was cooked to perfection. Fresh, flavorful, and done right. There’s a reason this place is such a rave in Astoria.
We will definitely, definitely, definitely be back.
A very wonderful experience. The gentleman at the place gives great suggestions and the food was cooked to perfection. The grilled shrimp and calamari and the pasta stood out for me but everything was great. I was here with about 10 people so we were able to create a family style vibe and really enjoyed a variety of dishes. The line at the wrong time can be very very long but it's worth it
I’ve been wanting to go to IBN Hamido Seafood forever so I’ve finally got to enjoy their food with my family. We had one of the most mind blowing experiences at this restaurant. When we went to the restaurant, the first step was the seafood bar where we got to select the seafood we wanted and how we would like it to be cooked. After we placed our order we were seated. The restaurant is big so I think anyone who goes won’t have any issue with getting seated but we also went on weekdays which was less crowded than weekend I believe. After we sat down we ordered some side dishes. After our side dish order, the servers gave us pita bread which was on the house and they served us mint and lemon water.I think we waited maybe 20-30 minutes until our seafoods were served, frankly I wouldn't mind waiting longer for their food but the time we waited wasn’t that long especially since they were cooking/baking everything fresh. I don’t know the last time I went to a restaurant where I loved every single dish. We had an amazing experience and we devoured all the food in no time.
Their servers are also very attentive and super friendly. They had many servers working and they came to check on us often. The price for everything was also very reasonable, their side dishes were very good price as well, everything total was way less than what I was expecting. I do think going with a group would be much more affordable. I’m already salivating to eat their food again.
We waited for about an hour in line just to get a table because we were eager to try this famous New York City restaurant. Having tried many seafood restaurants around the world, I can honestly say this one was disappointing and overrated. The so-called “butterfly fish” was cooked in a high-pressure oven rather than grilled, and it lacked real flavor. In fact, the tomato sauce on the plate was far tastier than the seafood itself — it felt like eating tomato sauce rather than seafood.

While the prices were reasonable, the food quality did not match the restaurant’s reputation. We tried several of their dishes, but in the end, we left completely dissatisfied.
