This was my first Indian dining experience in New York. I loved the place and it was quite busy. Get reservation if you plan to go there.
I ordered a cocktail which was great.

Mutton sukha was out of the world. The flavors were on point. It’s a bit spicy so beware when you try.

Next I ordered chicken kebab which was a disappointment. To make it look well done from outside with a charcoal colored, it was over cooked resulting in dry pieces internally and chicken that tool some effort to cut. It’s a common theme i saw in 2 other restaurants I tried in New York so could be a theme in the city. I hated it being a chicken lover. I would give it a 3.

The kulfi Faluda for dessert is just pure love and full of flavors. The taste remained with me for another day.

I would definitely recommend checking out this place. The locality is great too.

Had a great experience at GupShup! The food was absolutely amazing—everything was flavorful, fresh, and well-prepared. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accommodating throughout our visit. Service was also very fast, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking for delicious Indian food and excellent hospitality. Looking forward to coming back! 😊
Gupshup didn't meet our expectations. The food presentation was awesome but there taste was okayish. Their drinks were just meh and the apps were also not that extraordinary. However their desert was really really good. I am not going back since there is no reward for money at all

Absolutely loved the food here! The Indian dishes were full of authentic flavor with so many varieties to choose from. Every item we tried tasted fresh, rich, and perfectly prepared. From appetizers to curries and breads, everything had amazing taste and presentation. The ambiance and hospitality made the experience even better. Definitely a great place for anyone who enjoys quality Indian cuisine!
Cost is it little higher side-

The kheema pav was the highlight of the meal, absolutely bursting with flavor. The Lucknow style biryani and achari chicken were also delicious and did not disappoint. The chicken tikka was decent, but not quite as authentic or flavorful as what you would find back in India, so I would probably skip it next time. Great location and a lovely vibe overall.
Response from the owner
Hello Maneesh,

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback! We’re delighted the kheema pav and other dishes left a strong impression, and we truly appreciate your honest note on the chicken tikka as well. We hope to welcome you back again soon for another flavorful experience.

With Love,
Team GupShup
It's decent, i would give it 4 stars but it's on slightly costlier side.
Cheese panner roll is really good, but I have eaten similar tasting paneer dish across few well known NYC restaurant.
Veg kabab is good too. I never tried Veg kabab anywhere else, so I don't have frame of reference.
Masala fries is good, slightly crispy with hint of spiciness and hint of sourness.
Paneer butter masala, lachha paratha, cheese onion kulcha were standard as well.
Overall, it's good costly food but well known Indian food restaurants in NYC will have this taste and in slightly cheaper price range.

The food here is excellent, the drinks were subpar and service can be better.

We went here for our son’s birthday on a rainy afternoon with reservations. We ordered butter chicken, tandoori chicken, dahi puri and naan and stuffed paranthas. We were late for our reservation but they held the table for us and they also gave Gulab jamuns for our son’s birthday which was a nice touch.

All of the food items were exceptionally good; especially the chicken tandoori’s and stuffed paranthas.

The drinks really disappointed; especially given the price tag. My old fashioned tasted syruppy and the lassi was disastrous. For 22$ I couldn’t finish my cocktail and that was disappointing.

Overall I wouldn’t want to complain about service staff; but after automatically being charged 48$ service fee I expect much better service - including not requiring to be called on to take orders, providing cutlery, and cleanup; especially on rainy afternoons when the restaurant isn’t even busy.

The desserts also could use an uplift.

Overall given the price tag I expected much better service and drinks and desserts.

Hello Shravan,

Thank you for celebrating your son’s birthday with us and for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We’re delighted you enjoyed the food, and truly sorry the drinks, desserts, and aspects of the service did not meet expectations, especially given the occasion. We were there for our 32nd wedding anniversary, along with my niece. Had a wonderful time, appetizers were Dahi ke Kabab, King Prawn and Nalli Nihari (an experience in itself!!). We also had Mutton Sukha , and the Branzino - an exquisite dish with Butter Naan. The restaurant complimented our anniversary with Gulab Jamun and Licchi Ras Malai. We had Kulfi Falooda as the ordered dessert. Service is good, food preparations very thoughtful.

Update - our server was Rehmat , very engaging and polite. He recommended most of the dishes we had , very highly recommended. Look for him when you visit.

We had an absolutely amazing dinner at GupShup in NYC—one of those rare experiences where everything just comes together perfectly.
From the moment we walked in, the ambiance set the tone: vibrant yet comfortable, with a level of service that felt attentive without being overbearing. But the real star of the evening was the food—an incredible palette of flavors that made every dish memorable.
We ordered the Mutton Sukka, Old Delhi Butter Chicken, Nellie with Kulcha, Mirchi Wala Chicken, and the 24-hour braised Nahari. Each dish brought something unique to the table, yet all were beautifully balanced. The flavors were bold and expressive, but never overwhelming—everything was seasoned just right, allowing the complexity of the spices to shine through without overpowering the dish.
It’s not often that every single plate impresses, but this was one of those meals where you keep talking about each bite long after it’s gone. Truly a standout dining experience, and one we’ll be thinking about for a long time.
Response from the owner
Hello Laura,
Wow, thank you for such a beautifully written review! We’re delighted to hear that every aspect of your dining experience stood out, especially the flavors and balance of our dishes. It means the world to our team, and we can’t wait to welcome you back again soon.

With Love,
Team GupShup
GupShup is such a fun and vibrant place. Yes, it’s a bit on the pricey side, but the flavors and presentation really stand out.

I loved the Bombay sandwich. The quantity was small but it honestly felt like proper Bombay street style, which made it feel authentic. The paneer cheese rolls and jackfruit pull tacos are a must try. Both were packed with flavor and really well done. The butter chicken wings were another highlight. So good and perfectly cooked.

The lychee rabadi dessert was amazing. The sweetness was balanced just right and topped with pistachios, dried rose petals, and fresh lychees. It all came together beautifully and was such a satisfying way to end the meal.

Hospitality was great and the staff were amazing. Glen was our host and gave excellent suggestions. The overall vibe of the place is lively and stylish. Would definitely love to go back and try their dinner menu next time.
Response from the owner
Hi Varun,

wow, this made our day! So glad you loved the flavors, vibe, and Glen’s service. Can’t wait to welcome you back for dinner next time ✨

with love,
Team GupShup
We finally made it to Gupshup for my husband’s birthday weekend and it absolutely did not disappoint. We’ve been wanting to try this place for a while, and even though it was freezing outside, we braved the weather and are so glad we did.

The service was outstanding, and our server’s sense of humor made the night even more enjoyable. He also gave great recommendations, and I truly appreciated that he didn’t mock me for not liking cilantro. So many Indian restaurants make a joke out of that, which feels demeaning especially since it’s genetic, not a personal choice. It was refreshing to be treated with respect.

The spice levels were perfect - balanced, bold, and not watered down or “westernized”. The food felt authentic and thoughtfully prepared. The chili mango lassi was a brilliant twist on a classic, and the jackfruit tacos hit the spot. The tadka daal and paneer were both perfectly made - comforting, rich, and full of flavor.

We also tried the dahi sev puri, which I found a bit dense for my liking, but my husband loved the thick yogurt and puri. We also ordered the green chili laccha paratha and the onion chili cheese kulcha - the kulcha was our favorite (we had a stare down on who got the last piece).

Even the dessert was fantastic. Usually I’m too full to enjoy dessert, but this one wasn’t overly sweet, and the rose and lychee flavors complemented each other so well.

Overall, Gupshup is everything we hoped it would be - delicious, authentic, and fun. We’ll definitely be back! Might even have to order carry out from there tonight to warm us up from this -12 degrees!

Been on the Beli hit list for some time now - traditional Indian restaurant in Union Square neighborhood of NYC.

The interior is super vibey, lots of wall art classic to the Indian subcontinent. Restaurant is two levels, we were seated upstairs and it felt very cozy. They have a giant mural of a Bengal tiger named Shere Khan so obviously it made sense for us to eat here.

For appetizers we ordered the Dahi Sev Puri which looked like a traditional “gol gappa/pani puri” but instead was filled with a very flavorful yogurt. We also got the Malai tikka which was served with pickled onions and green chutney - a 10/10 for sure.

For the mains, we ordered the traditional lamb shank nihari which was full of flavor and had various spices infused. Main gripe about this dish was the lamb had a little too much fat in it, and the dish was served lukewarm. We also ordered the bone marrow which was served with a stuffed naan (mushroom). The server brought out a blow torch and cooked the bone marrow in front of us which was a cool show, but this dish was more of a gimmick. Would not get again. The mushroom naan was pretty good though.

Main feedback is that the temperature on these dishes needs to be higher when they are brought out of the kitchen.

Overall: 7/10
Response from the owner

While I was visiting NYC & was in the neighborhood, I stopped by at Gupshup for drinks.
Restaurant is nice & clean with friendly & welcoming staff.
I was at the bar table & enjoyed "My Friend Ballu" & "Paan Pe Raag" cocktail with fried Chicken in small plates. Chicken was made perfect, tasty & juicy.

I loved "My Friend Ballu" which is basically very nicely made Old Fashioned, but tastes very unique. While talking with very friendly bar Tenders, they explained me the whole process, how the preparation of ingredients for this cocktail takes place, every day.

Great job Gupshup team.
Response from the owner

Cocktails were on point .Staff was really friendly .Last but no the least leachy dessert is a must try .We had a pretty good time here , we initially wanted to go to bungalow but came here at the last moment .It was good we would definitely recommend goat sukka and chicken tikka .About food here we can sense the freshness of ingredients . In and around nyc this is a good stop with flexible street parking around.

This is one of the upscale Indian restaurants in Manhattan. We had a late dinner reservation around 10 p.m., but arrived about 40 minutes early, hoping they could seat us sooner. Luckily, the restaurant wasn’t too crowded, and they were kind enough to accommodate us right away. We were seated on the first floor, which also has a bar area—it was a bit lively and slightly loud, but still comfortable enough for conversation. The tables are placed fairly close together, so you can easily overhear nearby chatter, but it wasn’t a major issue.

We started with the yogurt-filled dahi puri, a creative take on the classic North Indian street chaat. The crisp semolina shells were filled entirely with thick Greek-style yogurt, then topped with tangy tamarind-date chutney, pomegranate seeds, and cilantro. It looked beautiful but felt a little too yogurt-heavy. Traditionally, dahi puri includes some spicy mashed potatoes and onions inside, with yogurt added on top. This version leaned more toward a fusion mousse—interesting, but not quite authentic.

Next came the char-grilled prawns, which turned out to be the highlight of the entire meal. These large river prawns were perfectly grilled, smoky, and bursting with flavor. The seasoning was spot-on, and the spicy chipotle-style dip on the side complemented them beautifully. We each had one, but honestly, we could’ve easily gone for more—they were that good. Definitely a must-try if you visit.

For the main course, we originally wanted the biryani, but it was sold out. So we opted for chicken achari paired with a cheese-filled kulcha. The kulcha was rich and heavy, stuffed with mozzarella-like cheese that made it resemble a small pizza. The chicken achari was flavorful, with its signature pickle-style spice blend, and the boneless chicken thigh pieces were tender, though the dish overall didn’t stand out as much as the prawns.

We ended with the carrot halwa ice cream, a unique fusion dessert that sounded intriguing but didn’t quite work for us. The ice cream itself wasn’t very sweet and had a slightly savory undertone, while the carrot halwa element gave off a somewhat oily aroma. It might have been an off day, but this particular dish just didn’t come together well.

Overall, the restaurant offers an elevated Indian dining experience with some creative twists. While not every dish hit the mark, the char-grilled prawns were truly exceptional and worth returning for. A good spot to explore modern Indian flavors beyond the usual favorites.
Response from the owner
