OK, full disclosure my first time enjoying the cuisine of Taiwan. I’d read other reviews and had a little bit of an idea what to expect. Deep, intense flavors with a beautiful balance across the plate. We timed it well going between lunch and dinner, but when we return to this neighborhood, it’s now at the top of our list.
Response from the owner

Had a really good experience at Gulp. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The menu had a great variety of Taiwanese dishes and everything we ordered came out hot and quickly. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was clean and comfortable. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in Long Island City.

Small Authentic Taiwanese eatery in the hustle and bustle of Long Island City. Took me a while to get here since parking is an absolute nightmare however I had Jury Duty today so why not two birds with one stone.

This is a no brainer if you’re in the area. Fantastic lineup of all the typical Taiwanese eats and everything is made fresh. I dined in but the endless pickups simply told me everyone is onto this. Their playlist is even Taiwanese.

Staff is very energetic and very friendly. I only wish the prices were like 🇹🇼Taiwan lol but reality of NY prices is a bit intimidating. No matter, this is a great spot.

Ok warning there are five seats at the counter.... so you definitely need to hurry. I got the braised pork fry noodle set with a side of pork chop added. I took one bite and had to text everyone I know immediately because why are we sleeping on this for so long?! I need to figure how to get here more often!!!
Response from the owner

We ordered the Taiwanese noodle and popcorn chicken combo, and it was absolutely delicious. The staff were very kind and welcoming. There are only about five seats, but I went around 3 PM and was able to get in right away without any wait. They also offer takeout, which would be a great option if it’s busy. Highly recommend—seriously so good.
Response from the owner

A wonderful dining experience with a speak easy surprise. This is a hidden gem in Long Island City. Highly recommend it for a quick sit down. Not a lot of seats. But you know that it's good because of the revolving door for pick up and delivery. The chicken and rice combo was delicious. I've also had the beef soup noodle combo (very nice as well). Will definitely be there again.... and again :)
Response from the owner

I was fortunate to be the first customer today. Based on previous reviews I order the Lu Rou Fan (braised pork rice) and it was FREAKING delicious! I've only had Mainland Chinese food before and Taiwanese is distinct and unique it feels like a fusion of Japanese and Chinese! I took full advantage of the year refills, their tea with ice is DIVINE!
They also offered home made chicken broth as a sample on the house. It's rich and warm..kind of like comfort food!

They currently have a promo where giving a Five star review rewards a free drink.

I do feel that the AC is a bit strong, sitting down you can feel the freeze blowing which can quickly cool your food bit overall it was an excellent dining experience. I plan to return to order something else in the future!
Response from the owner

Definition of comfort food. When you dine in you get the set menu. The lu rou fan was super rich and flavorful and the portions are really generous. Plus the iced tea has free refills, which I definitely took advantage of. Dine in is a small bar facing the kitchen and it’s a quaint and cozy environment. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Small place but big on flavor. I got lucky with the timing and managed to have lunch inside. The menu is packed with Taiwanese character and seasoning. The soup had a subtle hint of sweetness, the beef was so tender it practically fell apart just looking at it, and the noodles were fully soaked with flavor. Magnificent. The spices even made me sneeze a few times and cough a bit -not something I’m used to-but it was absolutely delicious. The fried chicken had a wonderfully flavorful crust. A great experience. Thank you!

Just had Taiwanese food for the first time, and I’m blown away!

The Beef Noodle Soup was incredible, the broth looked red but wasn't spicy, just smooth and mellow. The noodles were soft, and the beef literally melted in my mouth. The Braised Pork Rice was also a winner with its fragrant soy aroma and perfect rice texture. The fried chicken was ok. What really tied everything together was their homemade pickled mustard greens. They were the perfect palate cleanser, cutting through the richness of the meat. It felt like exactly what my body needed, nothing was too overwhelming, just a perfectly balanced flavor profile.

Oh, they served a tiny cup of appetizer broth to awaken the taste buds, which was so unique. With the side veggies, it felt like such a complete and nutritious meal.
Response from the owner

Cute and cozy. Primarily a takeout spot, but if you can snag a seat it’s a great experience. But if you dine in you have to order a combo per person. Quick and kind service. the food is delicious and tastes authentic! Would come back.
Response from the owner

Fast service and hospitable! There are only 5 seats for dining in at the counter (most people order to go) and we waited for about 20-30 minutes. I ordered the beef noodle soup combo. The food here is solid Taiwanese food and probably the closest flavors here that I can find to those in Taiwan.

The beef noodle soup reminds me of my mom’s beef noodle soup, the broth is not greasy and lightly spicy, and the beef is tender while the noodles have a nice QQ texture. Popcorn chicken has a light and crispy batter and the vermicelli napa cabbage bowl is light and a nice accompaniment to the broth. The iced hong cha / red tea is nice and strong and lightly sweet.

Family members ordered other items and they were happy with finding a solid Taiwanese restaurant. Picky Taiwanese elders approved! If you leave a review, you get a free canned sarsaparilla or apple cider drink.
Response from the owner
Thanks for the amazing detailed 5-stars! Thrilled our solid Taiwanese flavors won over your whole family, even the picky elders. Can’t wait to serve you again soon!

One word: amazing. The food, the atmosphere, the staff — all of it.

The beef combo is a must. It comes with veggies, fried chicken, and jasmine tea, which is perfect on a cold day. The beef was so tender it literally melted in my mouth.

There are only five seats at the bar, so definitely join the waitlist early. And if they suggest getting the sweet potato fries, do yourself a favor and say yes haha, it was SO good!!!
Response from the owner
