I've been coming to the Garden Gourmet Market for as long as I've been old enough to shop by myself. Unfortunately, it has taken a big downturn in the last two years. The Gourmet used to be a great place to get specialty items and fresh produce -- prices were always a little high, but it was always worth it. Lately they have tons of expired stock on the shelves. I bought garlic recently and every single head was sprouted when I peeled it the same day (sprouted garlic is still edible, but very bitter). The "fresh" ginger is so shriveled and soft that it isn't worth buying. I've found items still stocked on the shelves that were anywhere from 2 weeks expired to 9 months (!!!) expired. The bread on the higher up shelves tends to be covered in visible mold. Today I bought bread that did not have any expiration date marked, opened it up when I got home, and found it covered in moldy blue spots that were hidden by the packaging. Why am I paying high prices for moldy bread? Why isn't stock being regularly rotated? The employees here are always kind and pleasant, but something is clearly going wrong at the Gourmet. If you have to shop here, keep a close eye on the expiration dates and maybe go somewhere else for bread.

(Updated with additional pictures of moldy bread from 1/30/26)
