The food is good. Everything is a solid 5/5 that I’ve had except the coleslaw and potato salad, which I’d rate a 2/5 at best.

Fish sandwich, fried fish and the shrimp were all seasoned well. The shrimp was excellent. You can tell the oil is fresh. He is 100% honest about that.

This is the only place I’d get a fish sandwich from. I came all the way from Brooklyn to get some of the food and yes they will call you from inside through the speaker so you can pick your food up. It is a hole in the wall spot, so keep that in mind.

The half/half drink is delicious. Not too sweet, just right in term of the balance of lemonade and iced tea. The homemade tartar is tasty too. I still have some saved in my fridge.

I had the pleasure of witnessing Mr. Strickland bring the food outside to a lady on the wheelchair. He is nothing short of a southern gentleman.

The customer service is great. The employees inside were all helpful.

Overall, a solid 5/5. I will be back.

It's giving summer time vibes, the more the sun comes out the more I feel a craving for the famous fish sandwich. Will definitely keep going, one of the best grab-n-go spots for a date too

Overly rated! The wait time is ridiculous! 48 minutes for the food to end up looking like this! The fish looks like one piece was cut into two and served. Not to mention the chips overly cooked! As a Harlem resident, from the first time going here to now….. definitely falling off! This place is no longer a to go for me anymore. Greatly disappointed

There are not enough stars for how good this restaurant is. Black & locally owned. They get 10 stars for cleaning and changing their oil regularly. They serve whiting, shrimp, and catfish nuggets. The fish is consistent and prepared well. The french fries are also prepared right. And the potato salad isn't bad either. But be prepared to wait because this spot is popular (I never go on Fridays- the wait can be too long).

Great food, but not perfect. The employees are all kind and helpful. The vibe of the place is a hole in the wall with no seating. The food itself was pretty good, but there were some things left to be desired. I got the shrimp, fish and chips combo. The shrimp was the star of the show in my opinion. I know everyone raves about the fish but the shrimp was fried to perfection and the seasoning was on point. The fish was good, but not as good as the shrimp. Now the fries were pretty mediocre, not much flavor or crispy texture. The price was kinda ridiculous, $23.55 for this combo, not sure I can justify that. This place is good, I’d definitely recommend to anyone who likes seafood.

The " humbleness" of this owner is amazing. Cleaning the oil every day, cleaning the street outside his restaurant, five stars professional owner! I would suggest FFM to find a non inflammation causing oil instead of soybean oil.

🐟✨ Famous Fish Market – A True New York Icon 🗽
If you are a real New Yorker, you already know this place. And if you don’t, you’re in for a seafood revelation.
Sterling has transformed the taste and experience of fish, turning even those who aren’t naturally seafood fans into passionate connoisseurs. 🐠🔥
Sterling, his daughter, and the rest of the staff are absolutely extraordinary — respectful, welcoming, and genuinely caring. Their warmth and professionalism create an atmosphere that keeps customers returning again and again. ❤️
In my opinion, most people don’t just come for the fish — they come for the experience, the hospitality, and the family-like vibe that Sterling and his team cultivate so effortlessly.
🙏 God bless Sterling, his family, and the entire team at Famous Fish Market. You’ve created more than a business — you’ve created a landmark of flavor, culture, and heart in New York.

I used to go here a few years ago and it was good but the last few times the fried Whiting has been tasteless. The shrimp is pretty good, but the Whiting definitely needs kick to it.They do give alot of tarter sauce when you ask so that helped with the taste of fish.

I don’t know what happen taste wise to the fish but it’s not the same. I grew up eating from this place and after more than 12 years I decided to check them out. I will say I was disappointed. The fish was horrible. Tough, no seasoning at all. Nothing compared to how it used to taste. The fish taste like pre-frozen whiting from a supermarket, I wouldn’t recommend. The cashier which was an older women was very sweet & welcoming but it doesn’t account for the food.

My favorite fish spot in Harlem. I normally pick up the all fish basket to enjoy with a fresh salad.

This time I had it delivered and have you ever craved fish so bad you forget the photo? Yeah… that’s me. The bag’s empty, but that’s the proof. The fish was fresh, seasoned right, and gone in minutes. St. Nick & 145th — this spot is Harlem soul in a fryer. Respect to the crew keeping it classic.

If you hungry for something fried this is it!
I had both fish and shrimp and there new potato salad for just 2.00 and a half and half that was sweet and cold, It was so filling great taste not overcooked made on the spot and you get 2 slice of wheat bread! I love the tartar sauce too!

Sometimes you just want a place that takes your order (a grab & go).. well if you are in Harlem, this should be your go to place. The price is right, the service is on point and your meal is soooo good. It’s a 2 step down to enter, no seating, order, pay and wait outside for your number to be called. It’s been around since 1974. Trust me, you will be fine… It’s fish, shrimp & fries (the combo) get the ice tea, you won’t be disappointed. 😎

The food was phenomenal. Everything was cooked to order and cooked perfectly. I hadn’t eaten all day today, so I couldn’t until I got home. I devoured it on the bus. Lol
I ordered fish, shrimp, and chips combo. Everything was delicious. I don’t know what kind of fish that was, but it was fresh and flaky. The shrimps were perfect. The batter was thin and crispy. The chips were nice, some were a bit moist and cold. It even came with 2 slices of breads, and I made a nice fish sandwich with their tartar sauce. The sauce was also nice, and the flavor was very balanced. A little sweet, and a little sour. It was a good meal.
The only thing was that the service could be nicer. The restaurant was clean, but watch out those stairs.
