Emily West Village—A Speakeasy, a Double Stack, and a Reason to Come Back

Getting a walk-in table at Emily on a busy Saturday afternoon feels like a minor miracle, and the host who made it happen deserves special recognition…could not have been kinder, a great sign of a well-run establishment.

I settled into the downstairs section and loved it. A cozy speakeasy with a dash of wine cellar energy, the perfect backdrop for what I had come here to do…try the much talked about Emmy Double Stack Burger.

Unfortunately I found myself on the other end of some bad luck because it took a few attempts to finally get my hands on the elusive double stack.

By the time the host, clearly doubling as the conscience of this operation, intervened and personally committed to getting it right, I had been staring at an empty table for the better part of 45 minutes. To his credit, he was gracious, apologetic, and absolutely locked in on making it right.

The Emmy Double Stack is a solid, well-constructed burger and there’s real craft behind it. She arrives looking every bit the part with a pretzel bun, house sauce, and delicious waffle fries that earn their place on the plate.

The meat though runs slightly firmer than expected for a 30.00+ price point, which keeps it just outside the conversation for truly elite NYC burgers.

A strong showing, just not quite the knockout its reputation suggests.

The manager graciously sent over a specialty at Emily called the Zeppoli for dessert. Fried dough with whipped cream and the most divine flavored cream cheese. The donuts were a tad dense for my liking but definitely scrumptious.

Emily is a great spot. The vibe is warm, the location is lovely, the staff is genuinely lovely.

I Highly recommended.
