I absolutely loveeee the birria tacos and birria consume!!! I’ve ordered from multiple different spots but I can confidently say so far this place has been my favorite! It’s so flavorful and the meat is tender. The only con I can really say is that it is on the pricey side and they stopped giving a lot. In the beginning, they used to give a good amount of meat and two tortillas per taco but now it a bit less and only one tortilla. But taste wise they are amazing!!

Not only did the food arrive cold but we also found a fragment of metal likely from a metal brush inside of the food.
The quesadilla looked good at first, but the meat was awful quality. It was all tangled up with chunks of fat mixed throughout every bite instead of clean, tender meat. I kept pulling out chewy fatty pieces the entire time, which completely ruined the food for me. It felt greasy, low quality, and honestly made me nauseous afterward. Really disappointing experience.
It’s a small place, really good food especially if you’ve had a few 😅😅 the only thing is you have to be specific with your order they have so many varieties of toppings. Hands-down love this place.
was afraid to post this review because places this good should stay secret. the food was incredible. so flavorful and fresh, truly magnificent. would post pictures but the food was so good i licked the cardboard tray clean before i got a chance to even think about photos. amazing portion sizes. food is filling, tastes incredibly fresh, and seasoned perfectly. looking forward to coming back
Since 2025, I've noticed a drastic change in this place that used to be one of my favorites. The tacos have no flavor; they just put one tortilla , The tongue tacos used to be my favorite, but now they're undercooked and there are huge chunks in the taco that don't look appetizing. They removed my favorite dessert, ice cream with churros. I don't know what happened, but the change was enormous. I wanted to give it a second chance, but they definitely aren't making the effort to improve. I'll never go back to that place. Very disappointed.
This place takes forever to do pick up orders. I ordered food for pickup via Uber Eats at 8:20 pm, and it was marked as "Ready" in the app at 9 pm. I walk in at 9:30 pm, because I've ordered pickup from this place before and it wasn't ready on time, so I figured I'd give them an extra buffer. When I tell them I'm there to pick up my food, they tell me it's ready "soon" - aka, "we just started making your food." I watched them serve a couple who walked in and ordered in person at 9:30 pm faster than me, which was honestly just insulting. Eventually at 9:50 pm I got my food. I don't understand why PICKUP orders take so long. The whole POINT of pickup is I give you advance notice I'm coming, and then I don't have to wait in person. If you're just gonna make my food when I walk in, what is even the point of saying you do "pickup orders"? I've even tried calling them before to place a pickup order directly with them, and they told me they only take pickup orders through Uber Eats.

Summary: This place is extremely unreliable if you are just trying to get dinner. Maybe you'll have dinner on time, maybe you'll be stuck in purgatory as your stomach screams at you that you should've just gotten Chinese food. Extremely deserved one star.

Edit: AND!!!!!! The carnitas I ordered had a giant chunk of INEDIBLE cartilage in it!!!!!!
I ordered two burrito bowls and honestly it felt like they split one portion into two containers. The quantity was really disappointing — barely any beans as if they used one tablespoon, very little protein, and overall just skimpy compared to what you’d expect for the price.
On top of that, everything was cold when it arrived. The beans were watery and bland, the meat and rice had no real flavor, and the whole bowl just looked unappetizing. I’ve had burrito bowls from other mexican restaurants and it’s night and day — usually they’re hot, well-seasoned, and packed with flavor. This was the complete opposite.
Unfortunately, this was a letdown and not something I’d order again.
Response from the owner
Hi Rauf,

We have strict portion standards and measured recipes for every burrito bowl we serve. Splitting one portion into two containers is not how we operate, and that claim does not reflect our process.

All bowls are prepared fresh to order and leave the kitchen hot. If your food was cold at pickup, that would indicate it sat before being eaten, not that it was prepared that way.

We stand behind our product and our consistency. If you’d like us to review the specific order, feel free to contact us directly with the pickup time and details.
I had an excellent experience at El Gallo Taqueria and am giving it a full 5-star rating! The food, service, and atmosphere were all consistently good, each earning a solid 3-star rating. It is a reliable and high-quality spot that I would definitely recommend to others!
Response from the owner
Thank you so much for the 5 stars!! We really appreciate you taking the time to share this. So glad you had a consistently great experience with us — that’s exactly what we aim for. Hope to see you again soon for another lunch 🌮🙌
Their tacos are not flavorful whatsoever. It's very dry and needs sauce, tomatillo, anything! The shredded radish is interesting, but doesn't provide any additional flavor. It'd be much better if the meat was a lot juicier and had more seasoning overall. I do like that they added parchment paper in between each taco so that they don't get too soggy. On the other hand, the loaded fries are pretty salty!

Overall, I've had muchhh better tacos elsewhere. For the price, their food is not worth another visit from me, unfortunately.
Response from the owner
Thanks for sharing your detailed feedback. Our tacos are intentionally served without being heavily sauced so guests can enjoy the flavor of the meat itself and customize to taste—sauces are always available upon request. The shredded radish is a traditional garnish meant to add texture and balance rather than bold flavor.

We stand by the quality and preparation of our meats, and while seasoning preferences vary, consistency is something we take seriously. The loaded fries are meant to be bold and indulgent, which can come across as salty depending on individual taste.

We understand our style isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. We appreciate you giving us a try and wish you the best finding spots that better match what you’re looking for.
I went in wanting to hate on the place, being that it looks so new and bougie. I thought it was an Americanized place with high prices…. I had the fish taco, birria taco, esquites and birria soup (consome) with a tamarind water. I spent around $35 bucks - and after eating, I was sad to admit I LOVED everything about this restaurant. The tacos came out and the tortillas smelled like a tortilleria in Cuernavaca Mexico. Freshly made and I would assume made in house. I complimented the staff, tipped accordingly and brought my girl in to try it shortly after my first visit - & she agrees! (Ps:we’re both Mexican) sooo lo and behold we have our new favorite Mexican spot in the neighborhood. You have to try it! I’ve only gone in person, never delivery- love the freshness! Actually writing this review while heading in for another round.

Update: Pictures added from my latest meal. The torta is fiiiiire the bread is so spongey. And the pozole is incredible also! Lord have mercy ima have to run down the whole menu 😍🥲
You want Mexican fast food without the fast food taste and feel? You have to come to El Gallo Taqueria. Thalia is an amazing hostess and managed our meals efficiently and quickly. The food is always spot on, love their bowls and street corn. The burritos are delicious and the wraps are soft and well prepared. Kid approved so it’s amazing for the whole family.

Esfira this review made our day 🫶 we’ll pass the love to Thalia! So glad the whole fam had a good time—can’t wait to see y’all again soon!
Came here for lunch and everything was delicious! The steak bowl is my favorite- it even comes with guacamole 🥑 the chicken tinga and al pastor tacos were delicious! I also love the horchata- the large is very big :) it is enough for 2 people to share. They also have a beautiful, spacious seating area :) the food is flavorful and service is amazing! Jonathan is super friendly which made my experience spectacular! This is definitely a hidden gem in Brooklyn ☺️
Response from the owner

Lengua taco was so juicy and tender. Guac also was fresh and full of flavor. Marco was very polite and provided great service. It was my first time and will definitely go back.
Response from the owner
Thanks for the great review, Mai! We’re so glad you loved the lengua taco and guac. Marco will be happy to hear you enjoyed the service. See you again soon!
El Gallo was a late-night discovery I hadn’t planned on visiting, but I’m glad I gave it a shot. The rustic aesthetic immediately made me feel right at home when I walked in. The service was outstanding—our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to check on me and my kids before I even ordered. It was a thoughtful gesture that many places overlook, so I really appreciated it.

As for the food, it was a mixed bag. I tried the grilled chicken taco, which was just okay—not enough chicken for my taste, and definitely not something I’d recommend. The shrimp taco, unfortunately, was a miss—the texture and seasoning didn’t work for me, and I’d suggest skipping it. On the other hand, the steak burrito was solid. It wasn’t extraordinary, but it was flavorful and satisfying.

When it came to drinks, the frozen margarita was nothing special, but the piña colada was the true standout. Not only was it beautifully presented, but it also delivered on flavor and packed a punch with its top-shelf liquor—easily in my top three of all time.

For dessert, I tried the churro bowl, which came with cinnamon and ice cream. Unfortunately, it didn’t hit the mark for me; I think it’s more of an acquired taste, and it just wasn’t to my liking.

Overall, El Gallo had great service and a warm atmosphere. While the food was hit-or-miss, I’d definitely return for the drinks, especially that piña colada!
