Couldn’t have asked for a better spot to go for Cinco de Mayo 🇲🇽 the food was incredible and they even had live mariachis for the holiday! As a Latina, it was a wonderful cultural experience to be able to enjoy authentic Latin food, great margaritas, and a lively vibe with the live mariachis 🎵 I didn’t even know this was a Michelin restaurant till I got here and I see why!! The shrimp tacos, pipián plato, and tres leches were our favorite! The pipián plato was also vegan which was a huge plus for anyone with dietary restrictions or just wanting to eat plant based 🌱 Amazing service and vibes! Thank you to our waiter Alexia and Carla for seating us promptly on a busy day without a reservation. 10/10 experience and I can’t wait to come back!! 😊

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review—it truly means a lot to us! We’re so glad that you chose Covacha for Cinco de Mayo and that the food, mariachi, and overall energy made it such a memorable experience. It’s especially meaningful to hear your words about the authenticity of the experience and our Jalisco-style Mexican cuisine. Alexia and Karla will be so happy to hear your kind words, and we’re glad the shrimp tacos, pipián plato, and tres leches hit the spot. Thank you for celebrating with us on the Upper West Side. We are looking forward to welcoming you back again soon!

To start off, the food was absolutely outstanding. The guac was out of this world with flavor and spice and the tacos had flavor and depth. Drinks were very good as well and the ingredients for the drinks blended together really well. The main star of the visit was the customer service. Each staff person made plenty of touch points and our table felt like we never had to ask or look for help. The staff made the recommendations for everything and was confident and spot on. If you're in the area, must go!!!

This place is solid. The food and drinks were on point. The happy hour is well worth the prices. The tacos were super fresh and juicy and the entree portion was enough for us (3 people). We shared 2 appetizers, 3 tacos, a main entree and 2 desserts. Everything hit! The staff were amazing and super attentive and the music matched the vibe. Can’t wait to come back.
Response from the owner

Our team will be happy to hear your kind words about the service, and we’re glad the music and atmosphere added to your experience at Covacha. We’re grateful you spent time with us on the Upper West Side and are looking forward to welcoming you again soon!

My birthday luncheon! I was welcomed and promptly seated as a walk-in. I was fortunate to have Alexia as my server, knowledgeable, smiling face, prompt and attentive to my food tastes. She was very helpful with her suggestive dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit. Great ambiance and the restaurant is full of energy. Seemed like a smooth flow auto run place. I had a list of a few IG’s dishes that I realllllllllly wanted to try Chef Lilly’s specialties, but none were available- I guess seasonal. I had a mental palate to try’em all, but was disheartened…maybe another time. Kudos to the team for a very well run operation. 👏😋🫶‼️ Ty Alexia for friendly service.

The service here is amazing. Our server at the bar gave great dish recommendations and everything was incredible. The cocktails are definitely worth coming for— I recommend the cilantro gimlet. We loved the pork belly carnitas tacos and Zarandeado.

Mexican restaurant on UWS on the Michelin guide, pretty self explanatory!

Saturday afternoon quite busy, lots of reservations and walk ins. Portions were generous and flavours top tier. The guac had a chilli oil on it that was immense and homemade tortillas.

Homemade lemonade was gorgeous! Sometimes they can be a little tart but this was perfectly sweet and lemony.

Birria quesadilla was a highlight, birria not too spicy which was great for me but my partner would’ve rathered more fire.
The chipotle shrimp taco was lovely and had the spice missing from the birria. Pork taco spot on.

Overall excellent meal!!
Response from the owner
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We’re really happy you enjoyed your Saturday visit, even with the restaurant being busy. It’s great to hear you loved the guacamole, our homemade tortillas, and the lemonade. We put a lot of care into those details.

The birria quesadilla, chipotle shrimp taco, and pork taco are all favorites here, so we’re thrilled they hit the mark for you. And we really appreciate the note about the spice level. That kind of feedback truly helps us.

We hope to welcome you and your partner back again soon for another delicious meal.

I wandered around the Natural History Museum and happened to find this restaurant, which was rated Michelin 2025. The food was amazing. I ordered fish tacos and chilaquiles rojos, both very authentic, spicy, layered, and full of flavor. Sergio is also incredibly nice, and he introduced the restaurant’s signature dishes and even shared stories about his hometown. Now I really want to go to South America this year.
Response from the owner
Thank you so much for sharing this! We’re thrilled you found us and enjoyed the tacos and chilaquiles. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to Sergio — he’ll be so happy to hear this. We hope to welcome you back soon!

Cozy, nice vibe, and excellent drinks. We had a few apps, fish tacos and chicken enchiladas, and everything was bursting with color and flavor. It reminded us or the food we had on our drive around rural places in Yucatan. Will be back for sure.
Response from the owner
Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed the vibe, drinks, and dishes—and that the flavors brought back memories of your travels through Yucatán. That kind of connection is exactly what we hope to create. We truly appreciate your kind words and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

delivers! All of the food was outstanding. The guacamole ashes looked beautiful and was a little different. The quesadilla negra was exceptional. The sauce and the crema worked so well together, lots of texture. The barbaco tapatia was perfectly cooked, crispy outer layer, rich and tender beef. The tortillas were well made. I thought the rice and the beans could use more flavor. The service was fast.
Response from the owner
Thank you so much for the detailed review! We’re thrilled you loved the guacamole, quesadilla negra, and barbacoa — and we appreciate the feedback on the rice and beans. Glad to hear the service hit the mark, too. Hope to welcome you back soon!

Came here with a few colleagues on a Monday night. The immediate impression was good. The restaurant had a warm pleasant vibe.

The food, alas, was a little underwhelming. I generally enjoy fish tacos, but these were slightly bland. And the tortilla soup was too salty for me. The other dishes were alright, but alas these two were the only ones memorable, but not in a positive way.
Response from the owner
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re happy to hear you enjoyed the warm and pleasant vibe of our restaurant, but we’re truly sorry that the food didn’t meet your expectations this time. Your feedback on the fish tacos and tortilla soup is very valuable — we’ll be sharing it with our kitchen team right away to make sure we improve.
We hope you’ll give us another chance to serve you a meal that’s memorable in the best way.

Stopped here for happy hour on a Tuesday and was seated quickly. They had some seating outside, but it’s right on the sidewalk so we ate inside instead. The air conditioning was working great!
I got the Spicy Reaper mocktail - honestly, best and cheapest mocktail I’ve ever had. Didn’t taste like sweet juice, had a nice kick to it, and only $8!
Chicken flautas were tasty, had the perfect crunch, and a yummy green sauce. My shrimp taco was filled to the brim and tasted really fresh. My favorite had to be the queso fundido with chorizo - sooooo good, it was perfect.
The only things I will say are the happy hour portions are on the smaller side (as expected) and the prices aren’t amazing for HH.
The waitstaff was nice and we got served all our food at once, about 10ish minutes or so after we ordered.
Would definitely come back again to try their brunch or regular dinner!
Response from the owner

Absolutely loved my experience at Covacha! The pulled pork tacos were packed with flavor—perfectly tender and topped with just the right amount of fresh garnish. The chicken flauta was beautifully presented and tasted incredible, with the vibrant sauces adding a delicious touch. The margaritas were spot on—balanced, refreshing, and the ideal complement to the meal. Service was solid throughout, attentive without being overbearing. Highly recommend if you’re looking for elevated Mexican cuisine in a fun, colorful setting. Will definitely be back!
