We dined at Celeste a few weeks ago, and I wanted to give an honest review (especially because on each table there is a sign offering free dessert for a 5-star review.)
We were really excited to eat here after seeing tons of high reviews, but ended up being underwhelmed and disappointed by the food. The atmosphere was authentic and homey, and it was very busy that night with only a couple empty tables. The menu was promising and we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. The fennel salad was oily and under-salted/bland, and the mussels were also not very flavorful. I was excited for my spaghetti à la Vongole (spaghetti with clams), which is a dish I love to eat out and make at home. Unfortunately, it was not only under seasoned but the clams had not been properly purged and the entire dish had a sandy texture between my teeth. I had to return it to the kitchen, which I have done less times in my life than I can count on one hand.
The redeeming quality of the restaurant was that the staff was sincerely apologetic and returned exceptional hospitality- making me another dish and offering limoncello on the house at the end of our meal. I don’t take that type of hospitality for granted and greatly appreciated the effort to make my experience better.
It’s possible the chef was just having an off night, but I hope that this review can be received as constructive criticism to improve!
I had the margherita pizza and the lasagna. I've had a fews lasagnas, and let me tell you, this is head and shoulders above anything I've had. The effort and time they put into the Bolognese sauce can really be tasted, this is really a one of a kind lasagna experience. Tried the margherita pizza and a mushroom white pizza, both were excellent, great for sharing for the table and ordering as a starter almost because they are so light. Ambiance was great, service was fast. David engaged us the whole time, was very helpful with recommendations and kept us filled with fresh focaccia and friendliness. Cannot recommend enough. These guys know what they're doing. No brainer to come again.
The food was absolutely incredible. I went with a friend based on a recommendation and we had such a great time. The service was impeccable, and our waiter an Italian guy who gave us amazing recommendations. The pizza and pasta… 10000/10, no exaggeration. I’m already planning to come back next weekend with more friends for brunch . Celeste, you’ve won my little foodie heart ✨

The only thing is that they only accept cash.
I have been a regular here for more than 14 years, and it is truly an amazing place! The food is consistently tasty, and the wine list is very reasonably priced. We always order the vongole; in our opinion, no other restaurant can top theirs
We had the best experience at Celeste. The food was delicious - especially the homemade Pasta! Service was also amazing. Shoutout to our great server David. We‘ll definitely be back.
Amazing neighborhood spot with old school Italian food. David took care of us. We had the lasagna, clams linguine and an amazing pizza. The tiramisu was amazing!! Highly recommend if you can get a reservation!
I ordered the pasta with vongole, and I really liked it, but the place is very small with too many tables. The waiters were constantly bumping into me; there's practically no space between the tables, it's very strange, but the food is delicious. We'll go back there. The service was basically fine, it's just that there were so many people, and they kept bumping into me and my jacket, but the food is really tasty, there are just a lot of people there. But everyone seems to like the place, the food is truly great.
We came in on a cold evening and got seated immediately, place was pretty crowded but the service was very quick and helpful. David was a great server helped us pick from a handful of dishes we couldn’t decide on and helped us througthe extensive wine list. Food came out immediately and was very very solid. I got the tagliatelle bolognese and my gf got some steak and arugula dish I can’t remember the name of. We agreed mine was better but we liked both.
This place is great! The ambience is super nice and the staff is really friendly. We ordered the mascarpone pizza to split for 4 and it was really delicious and came out super fast. It felt really authentic, especially since I miss the food from my hometown in Italy. Later on we ordered our specials and my Ravioli Di Bufala con Sugo Vesuvio was absolutely delicious! Food came out literally within 5 minutes of ordering and once again, the staff was great! The dessert was a cherry on top and the Panna Cotta was super creamy and fresh! 10/10 - would recommend to anyone!
I’m an old soul and so find myself drawn to establishments that feel cleaved from time, and focused on their craft over trendiness or artifice. I came here with friends from the UWS who’ve been coming to Celeste since taking their high school dates here. Immediately I was charmed by the owner who felt like an old friend. I ordered the leak soup, a special, and shared it with the love of my life while discussing our careers and future plans with another couple. The leak and potatoes were simple and supple, whetting my appetite. We had a good laugh with the charming waiter David then ordered four bologneses; as they say you only live once. Four bologneses, four minds blown. I myself felt cleaved from time. Though I was born in the early Clinton administration, the evening felt positively Eisenhoweresque. We ordered desserts and laughed about the small details from our lives. I forgot my worries, work deadlines, my late puppy and simply enjoyed the moment. Thank you Celeste, see you again.
I had my birthday dinner here with 8 friends and it was absolutely delicious! The service was fantastic and David made our night. I loved the Vermicelli Alle Vongole and everyone at the table loved their dish. The vibes were immaculate, highly recommend, I will be returning!
It was an absolutely wonderful dinner! Despite a slight kerfuffle about our reservation they were super kind about it and were able to seat us quickly despite a packed house! We all argued over whose meal was the best (I maintain it was my lasagna)
Definitely leave room for dessert and order the tiramisu or pistachio cake!
The service is great! They were very kind, personable, and attentive. Definitely a warm feeling. Recommend it if you haven’t tried it! And they have good background music too. Looks nice inside. They even took care of my wobbly table mid-meal for me!
It was a Saturday afternoon perfect day for lunch with my family. The vibe was relaxing and the food was astounding. We started with the house salad, simple and perfect. Next was the fried calamari and shrimp. It was lightning floured and seasoned then perfectly fried. So crispy. So much to choose from on the menu. Our entre selections were lasagna, spaghetti and clams, ravioli and gnocchi. Finished with chocolate cake, vanilla Gelato with espresso. I'm so glad we decided to visit. Staff was attentive and friendly. Bring cash!
