This Italian restaurant is very popular, so reservations are definitely recommended. The seating is quite tight, but the staff are warm and attentive. The portions are surprisingly large, so be careful not to over-order—there’s plenty of food. The three of us shared one pasta and one breaded pork chop, and we could barely finish it.

Big portions, but not my cup of tea. We visited here for the first time with a couple of friends from out of town. The dishes were MASSIVE and were served family style. We ordered the fan favorites that were starred on the menu—the chicken parm with pasta marinara, calamari, Caesar salad, and fried zucchinis. Overall, we felt that majority of the dishes we could make better at home with boxed pasta and Rao’s spaghetti sauce. The croutons in the caesar salad was phenomenal. However, the zucchinis were cut too thin that all we tasted was salty batter. The service was good overall, the waiter was great, but the security at the front door wouldn’t let us through the main doors when we arrived 3 minutes early to the reservation, even though our party was standing right on the other side of it and made us do a loop to the other side via another entrance.
Great atmosphere of old school Italian family style. Server has the forget about you NY attitude doing their speak. Food was solid and a lot of it. Accommodated a large graduation dinner night well.
If you've never been here before this is Carmine's Times Square. An old school Italian family style, family friendly restaurant in Times Square. Times Square family friendly means loud. Family style means means big portions of really good food. Don't even think of ordering a dish by yourself it, they are designed to share.
The service no matter where you sit is impeccable with waiters that know what they're talking about understand the food and the sizes of the portions. If you have special dietary needs they have numerous menus but some of them are not what they seem. While there's a vegetarian menu it clearly states that cross-contamination can happen because fried dishes are all fried in the same oil.
A group of us went for my wife's birthday and we had a wonderful time food was delicious plenty to share and one dessert for the table was enough. If you go there enjoy because you will.
Loved this restaurant. Visiting NYC for business and we ate here, so it was our first time. Family style is an understatement. The amount of food we ate was massive, but loved it. I would highly recommend Carmines.
Recently went to Carmines on a Saturday night with family, this is my 3rd time here and I’ll say I’ve genuinely enjoyed the experience each time. I feel like this is one of those classic New York spots you should try at least once, touristy or not. Between 5 people we got 4 cocktails, 1 app, 2 entreés, and a dessert and I’d say it was a reasonable amount of food for everyone, came out to about $60 each with tip. My wife’s mom is a pretty light eater so if you’re going with 5 I’d recommend maybe 3 entreés. But service is top tier, portions are huge, drinks were good, and the Italian is tasty although not fully authentic. Not a 5 in my book, but I enjoy it when I go and would be down to go again in the future.
A classic New York Italian experience done right. The garlic bread and red sauce were standouts — exactly what you want from a place like this. The house wine was surprisingly respectable, and the calamari — though enough to feed a small army — was excellent.
Be prepared: the noise and energy level are very much in keeping with the adjacent Times Square. It’s loud, it’s lively, and it can feel a little overwhelming if you’re not in that headspace. The dining room is enormous, and at first glance the whole operation looks like barely-controlled chaos.
But here’s what’s impressive — the staff pulls it off beautifully. Despite the scale and the apparent mayhem, they do an amazing job of keeping everything moving, keeping everyone fed, and turning tables with just enough efficiency that the next hungry group gets their shot. It’s a logistical feat wrapped in red sauce.
One small caveat: we ended up ordering more food than we needed — the portions are legendary — so let the staff guide you on quantities. Come hungry, come with a group, and lean into the madness. It’s part of the charm.
In Times Square I ate on the restaurant a some years ago and we had a great experience. The review below represents what we typically order everytime we go to Carmines.

I have been to Carmine's in NYC, Washington, DC and Las Vegas and each and every time it is on point!!! I am not sure why i have never left a review but I will be fixing that today. I took photos and a copy of the receipt from Las Vegas so yall can see everything we ordered to go.. the only difference is the bread doesn't transport well with cheese i will remove the cheese next time. But other than that food was really good and so consistent. Yes its pricey and its also family style so its not for a sinlge person unless you are going to graze on it for a few days. I will tell you that marinara get extra...i forgot so you cna dip your bread it... so worth it. 10/10 definitely recommend!!
The show is amazing and the actors and actresses are so great. It was very entertaining. My only issue was the food. They give a great amount of food but not enough time to eat it. You are sharing plates with 10 different people. you serve yourself a little at first so everyone can eat. They then would send you to do a task and when u came back they would clear the entire table. We had full plates of food left and you think you are going to go back to finish it but it’s gone. They don’t mention that they are going to take everything away. For the price you are paying it should give an option to take leftovers home.
Definitely a tourist restaurant that serves family size portions. I haven’t been here in years and decided to give it a try. The portions are large, the menu is large and the flavors are not bad at all. It is standard Italian food, cooked well and served in a friendly atmosphere. It is a great restaurant if that is what you want. I came first lunch and had two appetizers, fried zucchini and stuffed artichokes. Zucchini was good, thinly sliced, lightly battered and fried well. Artichokes also good, leaves were very tender and easy to eat. The artichoke was a little too stuffed for me but I would prefer that to not enough stuffing because it’s very easy to just take some of the stuffing out. The stuffing was a little under seasoned but overall a good dish.
Not sure if it was because it was toooo busy... nah. It was just the server. 😑 We asked for water in the beginning but the water came much after the food... taking orders and everything was slow with her. The other servers were good though.. the ones that brought out the actual food and others nearby.. I guess she was overwhelmed? Not having a great day? Didn't make sense to get the water after starting to eat though and 3 of us needed waterrrr... who eats first before drinking water 😭 and we had bread before our food too! Ordered strawberry lemonade for my little one after waiting so long for the water.. imagine a 9yo complaining about being thirsty.. and how did the strawberry lemonade come first... the table that sat down next to us got their water first... before their food 😂 my friend was annoyed.. and felt bad that he brought us.. our server took forever to come back to us each time (even getting us the check and taking it back) and didn't check in either throughout at all.. I think all of us had the Get Me Out of Here feeling... had high hopes for Carmine's since all my friends mention Carmine's when I ask about italian in the city.. it was our first time there.. my kids and myself. Times Square location is not for us.. or just bad luck with the server.. either way I'm actually not interested in going back. It seems to be the type of place where one visit for the experience is enough.

Aside from that. The fried calamari and stuffed mushrooms were good 😋 the pasta.. they could have cooked it a minute longer. My kids that love pasta didn't enjoy it which says a lot. The broccoli was pretty crunchy too 😂 not gonna be craving pasta for a while. The portions are big. Just the pasta and calamari could have been fine for the 4 of us.

My little one loved their mints though 🙂 Oh!!! Forgot to mention~ The bread was also gooooood 😋😋😋 she forgot to give us the balsamic vinegar and oil too 😂 we asked a diff server after eating half the bread eventually 😌 we didn't say anything to the server since we wanted a positive experience for the kids.

My first non-5 review 😭
Want the feel of family style Italian? This is the place to go. We started with drinks from the bar. Of course we had a Manhattan. You have to when you're in Manhattan. We had the baked clams as an appetizer. So good. We also got the Carmine Salad. The dressing was so good and not over done. This restaurant serves family style so come hungry or bring a group with a wallet. Since it was just the two of us and we didn't need leftovers, we order the shrimp parmesan with some angel hair pasta. It did not disappoint. It was a good compromise for us since I wanted seafood and he wanted the chicken parmesan. Plan ahead to get in. A reservation is a must. Put it in the list when you visit NY.
George and Felix were amazing from the start. Best recommendations from the Caesar salad, house bread (the red bread), to the country style pasta-we added the chicken, and chicken parm…..oh and hats off to our home state Oklahoma we had a bottle of Fat Ninte(boys from Oklahoma) ….the best! This was split between 4 and we still left lots of food and wanted dessert but we were stuffed! Thank you George and Felix for making us feel like it was a family dinner at the bar. We had reservations but lived then so we gave up the table;)
To my surprise, this is one of the best meals I’ve had in New York. I look forward to going back. The portions are enormous, but very tasty dishes. The Caesar salad is a must get the house made. Caesar dressing is amazing. The steak rivals the major steakhouses in New York City simply delicious. Looking forward to going back!
We ventured here for lunch while on our trip to NYC. After doing a Google search, we decided upon this because I wanted authentic Italian food. I’m so glad we decided on this establishment. From the hosts to the server, Justin, to wait staff that assisted with our dishes, we were greeted with friendly faces and superior customer service. We had the lasagna and it was absolutely delicious. The portions are very generous and filling. The bread basket was filled with various types and all that we tried were tasty too! I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone in the vicinity of it. If we happen to ever get back to NYC, we definitely will be back
