Pretty big space and quite comfortable. Theres a $30 lunch prefixe for a soup or salad, a rotating main for each day of the week, and a dessert. I happened to come on a Friday, which is the petit moules frites provençal. Solid deal, and the staff were very attentive. It worked perfectly for my needs that day, and there was no wait at all when I went. This place is cute and it’d be a great option to come back with some girl friends.

Wonderful fixed price dinner that’s a real value! We have traveled in Alsace and this East side staple is the real deal! Each course surpassed our expectations! Lovely setting with attentive service.

Had the most amazing solo lunch hear. Mika was my server and she was so great and helpful. Such a great spot to go on a nice day and sit outside or near the outside and people watch. Delicious coffee and omelette as well.
Response from the owner

Great food! Love the menu, and the flavors are excellent!
The braised dishes are so creative and tasty. The terrine was as good as if I had gotten it in France.
Service was good.
Response from the owner
Thank you, Emanuel. Really appreciate the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the braised dishes and terrine, and that service hit the mark. Hope to see you again soon.

Gabriel Biton
General Manager
The food was very good-mixed salad, skate with a delicious sauce, steak au poivre with yummy fries, creme brulée, and molten chocolate cake. We would return for the food but…the computer generated thumping music was so very unpleasant that it ruined dinner for us. I can’t see myself sitting through another dinner listening to it. And this was at 5:30 mind you, when the scant crowd were mostly seniors. We had to ask for the bread that never came, and although service was pleasant, we waited too long between courses. Or maybe the music made the wait seem unending.
Response from the owner
Dear Guest,

Thank you for the kind words about the food. We take real pride in those dishes and are glad they delivered.

We hear you on the music. Early evening ambiance is something we are actively refining, and your perspective from a 5:30 seating is useful to us. We will also speak with our team about bread service and the pacing between courses.

We hope you will give us another chance soon.

Warmly,
Gabriel Biton
General Manager
I hosted a lunch baby shower here for 31 in the private back room earlier today. The space was gorgeous, the price was reasonable, and the service impeccable. Sonia and Danny were gracious and thoughtful and thought of everything. I walked in off the street and before I’d introduced myself staffers were immediately stepping in to help me carry (heavy!) decorations to the back. This is a lovely place for a private party and trust me when I say I researched just about every venue for a shower possible. I brought the light pink flowers but they were gravy - the space is so beautiful it needs very little to make it sing!
Response from the owner
Jane, what a wonderful review, thank you so much! It was truly our pleasure to host such a special celebration for you. Sonia and Danny will be so touched by your kind words, and our entire team loved being part of your special day. Wishing you all the best as you prepare for this exciting new chapter!

Gabriel Biton
General Manager, Cafe d'Alsace
We went for restaurant week and the food was delicious, the ambience was well-designed without being pretentious and the service was perfectly paced. Our server Jacqueline really made the experience - she overheard us wishing our friend happy birthday and put a candle in their dessert! That’s how to run a restaurant. Definitely will be back.
Response from the owner
Dear Ben,

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful review. We’re thrilled you enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service, and we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to Jacqueline—she’ll be delighted! We look forward to welcoming you back for another visit soon.

Gabriel Biton
General Manager
RW Review 1/6:

I went back to this popular Alsatian spot for Winter Restaurant Week a few days ago with a group, having gone there once before for Summer Restaurant Week, and once otherwise to share a few plates during one of my usual group dinners. Compared to many other French spots, it is a bit more reasonably priced, at $45 instead of $60, and with no listed add-ons. The service was friendly enough, but we had a surprisingly quick meal for a French place, so I guess this Alsatian meal was more German than French, since we were in and out in around an hour. In terms of the daily offerings, as the menu online lists daily specials for the appetizer and main, the Soup Du Jour was vichyssoise, and the main was an Alsatian fish dish with green pesto and other things, which sounded unique, but I was in the mood for duck. I didn't bother with wine, though someone else had a glass, and for food, most of us stuck with the same dishes, except, I believe, someone got the trout instead of the choucroute. They gave us some crusty bread to begin with, which was warm and tasty.

Most of us went with the Pétatou Gratine to start, consisting of a warm potato and Vermont goat cheese gratin, olive Niçoise, basil pesto, and a bouquet of mixed greens. The warm gratin was mildly salty taste with a mild goat cheese funk. and was pleasant. The olive and basil added some freshness. This was good, and a few of us used the remaining bread to soak up the remaining pesto.

My main dish was the Choucroute De Canard with duck confit, duck sausage, steamed potatoes, Riesling braised sauerkraut, and natural duck jus. This version of Choucroute garnie was quite different from last year's offering, being entirely duck-focused, as per the word canard, rather than a mix of pork products. The sausage was mild, with a light snap and a pretty juicy interior. The best part was the confit, which was nicely crispy on the outside and very tender inside. The sauerkraut, as last year, is slightly sweeter than the typical German variety, as it is braised in Riesling and contains some juniper berries, which weren't the most pleasant to bite into. As last year, I was not a fan of the potatoes, as they were undercooked and still slightly hard. In general, I preferred it this year, as the duck was better than anything in last year's version, even if the dish was a bit less filling overall.

For dessert, we all chose the Alsatian Brioche Mandiat with caramelized banana, coconut sorbet, and crème Anglaise. This was the highlight of the meal and was also a pastry I'd never had before. The laminated pastry dough had a light crisp and plenty of banana inside, with the sorbet being sweet but not too much. I expected the dish overall to be a bit too sweet from the combination, but thankfully it wasn't, as the buttery brioche presumably helped balance it. This was excellent, and I wouldn't mind buying a larger version for a party or something.

If they charged $60 again, I probably would have reduced my rating to 4, especially given the service feeling a bit too rushed, even for my taste. However, at $45, I would still recommend them.

Dear Glenn,

Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful and detailed feedback. We appreciate you joining us again for Restaurant Week and are glad there were elements of the menu you especially enjoyed. Your perspective is valuable to us, and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

Gabriel Biton
General Manager
What a find! This is a stunning, well-appointed French gem that balances elegance with warmth. We were treated to impeccable service and a nice table in the beautiful back room, but the food was the real star. The Frisée Lardon was perfectly balanced, while the Steak and Eggs was both generous and savory. Special shoutout to the Salmon, which was grilled to a flawless temperature. For the quality provided, the pricing is incredibly fair. I’m already planning my next visit to dive deeper into the menu!

We are obsessed with this place even though they have basically no vegan options. It is an iconic spot that defines the neighborhood. From morning until night, they are full of people genuinely enjoying elevated classic dishes, great service, and the coziest, classiest atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to have date night, bring your parents, or just relax over a cup of their excellent coffee (Kobrick beans). Our server Sonia was the best; we couldn’t have asked for better service.
Response from the owner
Dear Lauren,
Thank you for such a thoughtful and generous note. It truly means a lot to us to be part of the neighborhood and of so many people’s routines and special moments. We’re so glad you enjoy the atmosphere, the food, the coffee, and especially Sonia’s care and attention. We loved having you with us and can’t wait to welcome you back again soon!
Lovely place, somewhat loud. Get the hazelnut chocolate dessert. Bass was excellent! Shrimp was good. Full shrimp, morning removed, be ready. Back room good for irrigate party.
Response from the owner
Thank you, Janet! We’re glad you enjoyed the hazelnut chocolate dessert and the bass, and appreciate your feedback on the shrimp and the space. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
I went with some friends and the experience was wonderful. The food was super fresh, beautifully presented, and most importantly, delicious. One of the best hot oat milk lattes I’ve ever had! I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a nice brunch with good friends.

I’d also like to highlight the excellent service from Gabriel and Mika, as well as the entire staff for making us feel at home. All that’s left to say is thank you, and we hope to come back soon!

Dinner was amazing with my friend here. The grilled sea bass was good in every way. The whiskey sour also delivered. I especially liked our server, Luis. He gave us great recommendations and he’s a really nice guy. I’m definitely gonna visit this spot more.
Response from the owner

Amazing place! It has been renovated recently and I still love the quality of food. Had a lunch with my friends, beef tartar comes with french fries if you order an entree portion. Fresh! Also had a glass of wine, and it was more than enough. Nice staffs.
Response from the owner
Thank you, Sage. We're glad you enjoyed your lunch and appreciated the updates to the space. It’s great to hear the tartare and wine hit the spot, and we’ll be sure to share your kind words with the team.
Cafe d'Alsace is a fantastic French restaurant on the Upper East Side of Manhattan! I visited for the first time this week with friends, and we had an amazing experience!! The atmosphere inside of Cafe d'Alsace is warm & inviting, and the staff are incredibly kind. Specifically, Edgar took excellent care of my group during our visit! :-) Their food + cocktails are delicious. For drinks, their Smoky Paloma is SO good (I highly recommend if you're looking for something within the realm of a tequila/mezcal base). For food, we all tried their Early Dinner Prix Fixe. For a starter, their Butternut Squash Soupe du Jour was a 10/10. For a main, their Grilled Scottish Salmon was so, so delicious (I added a side of their mashed potatoes as well, which was a great choice)!! For dessert, their Homemade Ice Cream & Sorbet were excellent closures to each of our meals. This is a great spot on the UES, definitely go see them!
