I came here for dinner with some friends. We got the spicy cumber, mapo tofu, triple cooked pork, fried rice, and soft shell crab. We also had two bottles of Sake. Everything was good and the service was good as well.

Thank you Kevin for your visit and your generous review! Look forward to having you again soon!

10/10. Beautiful storefront. Very kind, accommodating hosts parked our stroller. Thursday at 5ish, no wait for a party of 3. The space is a vibe: cozy lighting; bar and main tables felt cozy, spacious, cohesive.

Waitstaff were attentive and friendly. My toddler dropped my chopsticks and before I could ask for a replacement, my waiter supplied a new pair 💕

Food: tea smoked duck, great flavor, tender. Some reviews complain about presence of fat, it was minimal and that's what holds flavor and moisture imo. My picky toddler devoured this dish!!

Three pepper chicken, beautifully seasoned, gave me a new appreciation of the flavor of pepper (black and chili). I don't like unbearably spicy things, and this was bearable/enjoyable spice. No sweating, gulping water etc. 😄 Delicious, took it home, ate it like popcorn.

Thank you B.! I'm glad you and your family had a good time! Look forward to having you again soon!

I had dinner here on Friday with my friend and her family. Café China did not disappoint. The restaurant is stylish, the food is flavorful and the cocktails classic and made to perfection. The service was also very good. We were a party of 7 and were seated in our own area in the back, which felt private but not secluded from the other diners.
I wish I had a better photo to post, but everything we ordered (and we ordered a lot) was quickly devoured...
The green beans, soft shell crab and Kung Fu Shrimp were my favorites. You should go.

Had an amazing meal at Café China. The chicken dish we ordered was absolutely packed with flavor — spicy, rich, and loaded with delicious chillies that brought just the right amount of heat. Every bite was addictive.

The whole experience was fantastic: great food, authentic flavors, and a really enjoyable atmosphere. If you love bold, spicy Sichuan-style dishes, this place is a must. Already looking forward to coming back.

We had a truly wonderful dinner at Cafe China in NYC.

We were seated in the upstairs dining room, which made the experience feel even more special and intimate.

We ended up ordering quite a lot of dishes, but every single one was absolutely delicious, prepared with great care and remarkable skill.

Among the appetizers, the ones that impressed me the most—and that I highly recommend—were the Tofu Ribbons in Scallion Oil, the House Smoked Tofu, and the Mung Bean Jelly. Each dish was unique, perfectly balanced, and full of flavor.

For the entrées, as a vegetarian, I was especially impressed by the Sautéed Shiitake Mushrooms and the Eggplants in Garlic Sauce—both were outstanding.
The other people at the table thoroughly enjoyed the Braised Pork Szechuan Style, the Ma Po Tofu, and the Short Ribs in Claypot.

The service was impeccable from start to finish.
Highly recommended if you’re looking to experience high-level Chinese cuisine, especially authentic Szechuan-style dishes.

Response from the owner

My wife and I discovered this place about a 6 months ago. We were in town for a show and made a lunch reservation. I had the chicken and morel soup and crystal shrimp dumplings. My wife had the pork soup dumplings and a beef and pepper bento box. All our good was delicious with attentive service. They offer happy hour from 11:30-6 so we had a couple discounted drinks with our lunch.

Response from the owner

A Chinese Sichuan menu amid upscale 1930s Shanghai-inspired decor. The atmosphere is classy and unique, perfect for a nice dinner date or a small private gatherings (there are themed rooms that beautifully decorated). Great for a little photoshoot, too. Food is also delicious!

Celebrated Lunar New Year at Cafe China in NYC and it was nothing short of spectacular. The food was the real star. Every dish captured the bold, complex flavors that make authentic Szechuan cuisine so unforgettable—fragrant chili oil, mouth-tingling Sichuan peppercorns, deep layers of spice balanced with precision. You can tell this is the real deal, not a watered-down version. Each plate arrived beautifully presented and bursting with flavor.

What impressed me most was the abundance of vegetarian options. So often, celebratory meals revolve around meat-heavy dishes, but here the vegetable preparations were just as thoughtfully crafted and deeply satisfying. From perfectly stir-fried greens to richly seasoned tofu dishes, every bite felt intentional and celebratory.

Cafe China made our Lunar New Year feel truly special—authentic cuisine, vibrant flavors, and a menu inclusive enough for everyone at the table. Already looking forward to coming back. 🧧✨

Many of my colleagues recommended this restaurant. However me and my other colleagues from China did not really like the food. In short, they were too salty and greasy.

Response from the owner

Hi Songme, thank you for you visit and your comment. I regret that you didn't enjoy the food. Can you please share with me what you ordered? Thanks.

Great spot if you are craving family style Sichuan cuisine.

The portions were generation and they did not skip over the seasoning. Staff is very attentive and the aesthetics of the restaurant reminds me of a Wong Kar-Wai film.

I have been wanting to try this place for a very long time. finally pop in for a visit during lunch time on a weekday. it really exceeded my expectation. there are so many sichuan restaurants in NYC and it's already hard to top one another. but the food here is really unique and the service is a top notch. Love their old shanghai decor makes it cozy and quiet enough to be able to talk to each other without screaming. there are multiple floors even seats that best for solo as well.

The dish most wows me is the spicy soft shell crab. there are so much crab in it and loaded with flavor.
Tea Smoked Duck is very juicy with smoky taste.
Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil is one of the best flavor in NYC, it's very authentic taste with a little sweet and a little spicy.
the lucky cup sake is very easy to drink if you want to take advantage of their happy hour price for only $8

There are some lunch bento specials as well, if you are not a person to share. there are also plenty to choose from.

Response from the owner

Thank you Alex for your visit and your generous review! Hope to see you back again!

Authentic Szechuan food with a creative twist. Every dish we ordered was delicious and hit the spot with the right amount of spice and flavor. Surprisingly reasonably priced.

Even though we didn’t try the cocktails the menu and names looked definitely interesting.

Very cute and chic decor inside. The only downside is that it was very loud so we had to shout to each other throughout our meal.

Will be coming back.

Been wanting to come here for a since they moved a couple of years ago. Their old space, now called Chili, has a lot of the same dishes. My favorite there is Mr and Mrs Smith. Curiously named, I thought, until I came to Cafe China and saw the exact same dish called Husband and Wife Special.
Instead I ordered the smoked tofu cold dish. Lots of spicy oil and numbing peppercorns. Could use some more peanuts and scallions in the dish but still tasty.
The Spicy Fish was fried, and comes with lots of dried red peppers, cilantro and 2 limes. Delicate flavor and lightly fried.
The tea program is on point. This oolong tastes like a 2nd batch from a high mountain plantation. Very good
