This restaurant was incredible absolutely beautiful. It transported me to another place. Another time I was able to disconnect from New York City. I also love the fact that they had a lot of variety of Indian food from the southern states their mango chicken was one of the most unique Indian flavors I’ve ever had also they had a coconut base that was extremely delicious. Their vegetables had crunch and bite. They have the best dosa in New York City crispy on the outside flavorful on the inside there’s sauces or sauce and the desserts pretend store and the service was impeccable.

Response from the owner

Wow so great! My.mom and i went for lunch and we were treated like movie stars. We asked for help ordering and they brought out platters for of flavors and colors. Lamb was tender and rich, chicken very flavorful. Lentil soup was hot and had a little kick just right! Ohh try the cauliflower with a sweet and sour sauce very different. My favorite was the rice pudding for dessert. A combo of sweetness and nuts just awesome. My mom loved the mango drink. Service again was outstanding, a real jem ! A+

Had a great dine-in experience here. The staff were very kind, friendly, and welcoming from the moment we entered until we left. The environment is cozy and comfortable, and the music playing in the background gives a unique vibe—almost like being in a museum. The food was really delicious as well. Overall, the whole experience felt like having dinner in a completely different place. Highly recommended!

Its kind of a bohemian decor. Very nice, comforting, not flashy. Serving staff was very friendly and not pushy. They were willing to talk about the dishes and even make a combo for me that was not on the menu. They have north indian food, south indian, and food from Goa. It was the first time a tried food from Goa and loved it. They have wine and beer, no cocktails. All in all, Id highly recommend it if you want to try some off the beaten path Indian food.

We have been here several times and it has always been an awesome experience. The service is second to none. Our server took the time to explain the menu, make suggestions, and even offer food not on the menu. The food never lets us down. It is by far one of the best Indian restaurants I have experienced. The ambience is a bit crowded but never overbearing. I highly recommend.

Visiting UES, tried Bombay Chowk for the first time. Ordered a takeout. As a Brit, I know Indian food pretty well, and expectations are not usually met. Bombay Chowk food, however, was excellent. The lamb and chicken dishes were really good, and we asked for the lamb to be hot (spice level) and it was excellent. The aloo gobi was a great combo of cauliflower and big pieces of potato and onion. Very good. The Peshawari naan could be better, but it’s never a good takeout choice - it needs to be eaten fresh from the oven. The restaurant itself looked really cosy and nicely designed and the staff were super friendly even though I was just picking up. Next time we will eat in. Very enjoyable food, delicious.

I’ve been coming to Bombay Chowk for almost 3 years and it feels like home. The ambience is beautiful, unique and very traditional, its like an Indian museum. I brought my friends here after visiting the Indian gallery of The Met and they were really impressed.

The service is excellent. The staff is super friendly and always welcoming. You can really feel that this is a local, community-driven place, not a tourist spot. Highly recommended!

We happened upon this place and are so glad we did! It was an absolute treasure with amazing food and otherworldly decor. The jewel tones lamps and flickering wall sconces lit up a room full of elaborately carved chairs and pressed metal hangings.

The shrimp moll was crazy good with a spice profile unlike other Indian restaurant appetizers I’ve had. Each dish we had came with a maraschino cherry in, it was baffling and worked in the weirdest way.

The gentleman who helped us was genial and kind. He guided us to a perfect meal and reminisced about a road trip in our home state. Again, so glad we found this place.

Wow! That was so delicous!!!
We had visited Bombay Chowk a few times over the last few years but had never become a regular as we had never walked away having been amazed. But idk what changed, the food was SOOOO good today. We had the new lamb samosa, lamb biryani, chicken makhani and garlic naan. Everything was so delicous. Every bite a burst of flavor. Either I was ordering the wrong things during my previous meals, or the chef changed, or idk, to tonight they hit the mark for me and I was very impressed. I can't wait to go back!!! (We spent our entire walk back hom talking about how crazily good the food was today)

Have been visiting Bombay Chowk for their lunch specials. Their thalis have a good portion size, always left with a full stomach. The owners are always very welcoming.

Bombay Chowk serves exquisite food in a whimsical fantasy setting that takes you on a magical culinary adventure.
Deepak, the owner, is a warm and wise host. Antika, one of the wonderful servers, is a charming, smart and funny NYU student who gave us expert recommendations.

The sauces are indulgent and creamy and the naan is pillowy and luxurious. The spices are fresh, fragrant, and layered in a sophisticated yet unfussy way. I would eat here every day if I could!

Honorable mentions:
- Malai Kofta
- Coriander Saag Paneer
- Poori and Naan
- Cumin Rice

There are a lot of restaurants in this neighborhood and we considered many of them, but warm glow exuding from Bombay Chowk's open door, and the sight of the Bollywood film projected into an ornate arch on the back wall pulled us in. The interior design is luxurious and magical. The staff are very friendly and when we left we felt as though we'd made new friends. We didn't really try any of the usual familiar North or South Indian standards (I mean, other than the garlic nan and wonderful pulao rice), because Deepak guided us to a street food appetizer that wasn't on the menu (trust Deepak). I would heartily recommend the Smoked Baingan Bharta, and a chicken dish cooked in a rich mint and coriander sauce. You can spend much less than we did: we ordered extra to take home. Looking at the menu now there are a large number of different dishes it may be worth making a trip to Lenox Hill to try. Thanks all, for a lovely evening and see you again soon.

Went with a colleague on a weekday afternoon for lunch. The food was really good.
We started off with the Egg Chops that were different and tasty. Loved the Malabari and Xacuti Chicken. The flavor was just right and not very overwhelming. The spice level was good, nothing crazy.

The entrees do not come with rice and the quantity could have been a bit more but that's me just being critical.
Biryani was good but I would say their entrees were better.
The presentation of the food, service and ambience was excellent and I would surely go back!

So, I went back a year later and had Poori Bhajji, Gobi Lasooni and Jackfruit caluni. All three were great. They got the Bhajji spot on and the Jackfruit gravy was cilantro based gravy, really good taste and not spicy.
Yes, I will still go back.
