Very cute overall atmosphere. However, we had a reservation for Sunday brunch, and were seated promptly, but it took 20 minutes for a server to take our orders, and then another 20 for our food to arrive. After we were done, it took another 20-25 minutes for our server to come over for us to close out our check. Tldr; don't come here for brunch if you have plans at a set time.

Beyond that, the food was good once it finally arrived, however, my steak was overcooked. Not wanting to wait another half an hour for a replacement, I didn't ask for a replacement. It's a little irritating to pay 30 dollars for steak and eggs and have an improperly cooked steak, but at least the eggs were cooked correctly and the overall flavor was good.

It looked like they were very understaffed when we dined; it looked like our server was the only one attending to the entire patio area. We also saw her bussing tables, which seems odd to focus on when there were plenty of guys going around bussing and running food to tables. I would recommend it for the food, but only if you don't have anywhere to be and can deal with long waits.

Hell’s Kitchen, this little gem! I had the most incredible potato fries for breakfast. I couldn’t resist stopping the server to ask how they made them because they were unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. Every dish was delicious, and the service was top-notch. The outdoor seating added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience.

Fun place that allows dogs. We tried to make a reservation online, but could not. Called and the phone greeting stated they were too busy to answer.

We walked over and there was one table occupied and one man at the bar. Workers stood chatting with the man at the bar.

Service was pleasant but not very attentive.

Food was good. The lemon chicken soup is excellent.

We had such a nice time celebrating my puppy’s birthday here. Overall, everything was great and it was a really fun experience. The only downside was that my sister’s food came out cold, and even after she asked for it to be warmed up, it was returned the same way. Aside from that, I truly enjoyed my meal, my dog loved his, and it’s such a great spot to bring your pup, especially during the summertime.

Dennis was so amazing! He was very kind and attentive The entire time that we were there for our friends birthday party! we did the first course of quinoa salad, waffles, and fresh fruit family style and then we each got our individual main courses. The chicken sandwich was delicious and all the dogs had a great time!

Do not come here if you don’t want to pet dogs!!! I’ve never been to such a dog friendly restaurant. We randomly came here for brunch while visiting NYC with our little dog. They have pseudo-indoor seating with some small heat lamps so you can your furry friend can dine in moderate comfort, even during the cold NYC winter.
I had the croque madame (eggs on the side) and my friend had the Rottweiler burger plus we shared the french onion soup because it was cold. Both were good though the burger was better than the sandwich. I love the dog menu they have so you can order something for your pet and they gave our dog a bowl of fresh water. The drinks were nice as well, we had an aperol spritz and the Pawsome which was excellent.
I will say that some customers do not do a good job of handling their dogs and let them jump up on others while they eat. It was pretty empty the day we went so maybe when it’s busier management is more strict about dog behavior. But truly that didn’t bother me and I love the concept of this restaurant. I’d love to come back with dog when it’s warmer!

As a professional reviewer, I encounter countless establishments, but few manage to combine high-end hospitality with genuine human connection as seamlessly as The Barking Dog.
The Atmosphere & Service:
From the moment you walk in, the "Barking Dog" theme creates a warm, inviting environment that feels both sophisticated and incredibly homey. I came in during a very difficult personal moment—having just lost my dog of 17 years, Nanna. The level of empathy I received from the staff was unparalleled. The bartender didn’t just serve a drink; he recognized a neighbor in pain and offered a gesture of kindness that reminded me why I love this city. That kind of emotional intelligence is rare in a high-traffic area like this.
The Experience (Yappy Hour):
Their "Yappy Hour" is a brilliant concept. They offer half-priced drinks that are expertly crafted, but it’s more than just a deal—it’s a community hub. It’s the perfect spot to decompress, whether you have a pup with you or are just looking for a welcoming seat at the bar.
The Food:
Five stars across the board. The menu offers elevated comfort food that is consistent and delicious. Whether you are looking for a world-class burger and fries or something more substantial, the kitchen delivers with precision and flavor.
The Verdict:
If you want a place that treats you like a human being rather than just another transaction, this is it. Professional service, five-star food, and a heart of gold. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Also Mr. Whiskers is a staple of the bar you may catch a sighting of him.

Quick stop in the city quick google search quick bite. Simple easy good. Great service. Great location. Very clean. Would have been perfect but was not a fan of the chicken wings. I think they were frozen which not a fan of otherwise everything else was on point!

The name says it all, dog friendly! The staff made sure Bailey (Paw child) was taken care of with fresh water and a nice treat. Seating available in the winter for you and your dog and during spring & summer TBD has a large patio area. The food was delicious and served urgently too.

I absolutely LOVE this place. Since I’m only in NYC for two months out of the year (July and August) it’s important that I make every single moment —-every meal, every sunny summer afternoon and even the overcast muggy heat wave afternoon— count. So it’s important to have a space where people are warm and friendly and the vegetarian options are available. Since breakfast is my favorite meal and I’m health conscious, I’m incredibly picky about where I go. So Barking Dog is my go-to. It’s in a courtyard with trees and a fountain with Manhattans iconic skyscrapers around the edges. Best to make reservations on busy holiday weekends but if you plan ahead they will try and find you a table. It’s also in the heart of the theater district Brunch before a matinee or late night cocktails after a play or musical. Did I mention it’s in the heart of New York’s theatre district and has an outdoor wrap around patio as well as an indoor bar and restaurant with walls of windows? Barking Dog is a Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan theater district gem!!

Response from the owner

Susanna, your thoughtful words truly capture the spirit we hope to share with everyone who walks through our doors, whether it’s the welcoming atmosphere or those health-conscious breakfast choices that matter most to you. We’re honored to be your summer spot in the city, and it’s wonderful to know our little corner of the neighborhood adds something special to your time in New York.

Warm regards, Barking Dog

Super awesome place with a beautiful outdoor space in a shared public park with nice landscaping. 5 stars across the board - food and drinks were great with reasonable prices and portions. Super attentive service from not just our server, but 2 other staff who checked with us.
