Balaji Bhavan is a great spot for authentic South Indian vegetarian food. The dosas are fresh, crispy, and full of flavor, and the idli and vada combos are also very good. The food tastes homely and is served fresh even during busy hours. Prices are affordable and portions are satisfying. The staff is generally friendly and the service is decent, though it can get a bit slow when crowded. Overall, it’s a reliable place if you want simple, tasty, and authentic South Indian meals. I would definitely recommend it for breakfast

I went here last week! This place is outstanding If u like authentic south indian food! Their version Benne dosa is outstanding! We have karamkodai idli, pongal vada combo and punugulu. These were excellent! Their selection of peanut and tomato chutneys were awesome along with the regular coconut chutney. They also had different version of podi powder chutney! Their service is awesome too! Although the wait to get a table is a bit long but it’s worth it. The servers dont rush you at all. They do also sell dosa batter and gunpowder! To top is all, the filter coffee and pineapple kesari is outstanding too! It’s a repeat for me! They also have a separate No Onion No Gralic Menu! Looking forward to trying their south indian thali!

Balaji Bhavan - Jersey City, NJ. This South Indian restaurant offers a unique yet simple dining experience, featuring an extensive variety of Dosas, Thalis, SPECIAL DOSAS, and more.

The Delish Special Dosas are highly recommended. To fully appreciate the menu, it is suggested that you venture beyond the traditional Masala dosa and try something new, such as the Jin Dosa or Gongura dosa, which were both exceptional.

Other notable options include the Special BB Dosa, Pizza Dosa, Chettinad Dosa, Pav Bhaji Dosa, and the 70 MM Family Dosa.

Rather than elaborating further, it is recommended that you simply try it.

Some points to consider:
1. Be prepared to wait 20 to 30 minutes. 2. The restaurant has a simple, unpretentious atmosphere. 3. The service is excellent, with attentive servers who are relatives of the owners. 4. Parking may be a challenge.
However, it is well worth the effort.

RAJ, Tried, Tasted & Approved! 👌

Excellent authentic South Indian food!
Balaji Bhavan is a fantastic spot in NJ for pure vegetarian South Indian cuisine. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. The dosas are perfectly crispy, generously sized, and served with amazing chutneys and hot sambar. The crispy fried appetizers (punugulu) topped with fresh onions were addictive, and you absolutely have to finish your meal with their traditional, frothy South Indian filter coffee. Highly recommend!

Had an amazing experience at Balaji Bhavan Pure Veg Indian Restaurant! We tried the onion uttappam, pav bhaji, express meal, and idli and every single dish was absolutely delicious. The flavors were authentic, everything tasted fresh, and the quality really stood out. Perfect spot in Jersey if you're craving satisfying South Indian food. Definitely coming back again!

We ordered pure South Indian vegetarian food from Balaji Bhavan for our home pooja based on my friend Vinitha’s recommendation. We had a big order with many traditional dishes like pappu, sambar, fry, masala curry, sweets and several other items. Everything was freshly prepared and the taste was truly authentic. Honestly, we didn’t expect the food to be this delicious! All of our guests were very happy and kept appreciating the flavors and quality of the food. It really made our pooja special and memorable. The quantity and quality were both excellent. We are very satisfied with the experience and will definitely continue ordering from Balaji Bhavan for our future events as well. Highly recommended for anyone looking for tasty and traditional South Indian vegetarian food.🥰

First time in restaurant, I was very pleasantly surprised by the food and service. I got the JINI dosa and it was an interesting take on traditional dosa. I've tried Dosa in India and it's typically filled with spicy mashed potatoes , but theirs was filled with cheese. I guess this is an attempt to speak to the American food palate , but I have to say, it was actually fantastic. I'm not a huge cheese lover , so this is very high praise coming from me. The dosa paired very well with the chutneys and I washed it down with chai masala. I will be coming back again for more deliciousness. Truly a taste of India!

Great food, we went on a Sunday morning there was a 20 mins wait time but it was worth the wait. The music and the interiors took me back to the south of India. Dosas crisped to perfection. They have a wide range of items on their menu. The staff is very friendly and service is very quick. Highly recommend this place.

Visited Balaji Bhavan today and honestly didn’t expect the food to be this amazing—it was absolutely fabulous! Every dish was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully prepared. The ambience was warm and welcoming, making the experience even better. A special mention to Vinny, who was such an angel and took great care of us throughout. Her service was attentive, friendly, and truly made our visit memorable. Highly recommend this place for both great food and wonderful hospitality!

My friend and I (we’re Chinese and Vietnamese) were on a mission to try out this restaurant because we saw that it was always packed, sometimes with the line out the door. We finally went on a very cold Saturday at 2pm in the afternoon and still had to wait 2 minutes for a table to leave - that’s how popular this place is.

I’ve had South Indian food twice in my life and my friend has never tried it. We ordered the Onion Chili Rava Masala Dosa, Samosa chaat, Pav Bhaji, and Baby Corn Majestic. We also ordered the BB special Dosa per the waitress’ suggestion, which turned out to be our favorite dish. I greatly enjoyed the filter coffee, masala chai and mango lassi too. All the servers were so attentive, lovely and beautiful people :) As non-Indians, we so appreciated how our server proactively asked if we’d been there before and gave great recommendations. The food tasted delicious, some dishes may be a challenge for those not used to some spice. It’s worth it, just get a mango lassi to cool off!

In the end this was a lot of food for two people. I enjoyed the leftovers for the following two meals. No regrets! The total price came out to be $100 which was great considering all that we ordered.

Visited Balaji Bhavan Pure Vegetarian South Indian Restaurant yesterday and had an amazing experience. I tried the Masala Dosa, Punugulu, and filter coffee, along with peanut chutney, ginger chutney, and sambar—everything tasted absolutely delicious and authentic. The flavors were spot on and reminded me of traditional South Indian home-style food.

The front staff was extremely polite, welcoming, and attentive, which made the visit even more pleasant. Every item we tried was exceptional, and the overall quality of food and service was outstanding. This restaurant truly stands out as the best part of Heights, Jersey City. There are very few proper Indian restaurants nearby, and Balaji Bhavan easily fills that gap.

I’m definitely planning to visit every week and try new dishes. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic, pure vegetarian South Indian food in the area! 🌟

This review is purely from the English formed in my mind. Though the prices are a tad bit higher, the quantity and the taste are TOTALLY JUSTIFIED. the flavors are amazing, and for the first time, I enjoyed the Sambhar served with the dosa. The starters were great too. We had vada and Mysore bonda and they were very tasty. Everything is fresh and served hot. Coffee is amazing too. You can choose between light medium and strong.

I have to give a warning for people who don't prefer spicy food, if they have mentioned in the menu that it's spicy, they actually men it. The Guntur Karam dosa is spicy and true to the Andhra level of spice😂

But will definitely recommend

Tried their cheese masala dosa, tiffin combos, and the BB special ghee dosa—everything was excellent. The quality was great, the ambiance was lovely, and the service was very attentive. Finished with filter coffee and masala chai that brought back memories of cafés in Madras.
