If you want it to be sharp and credible, focus on the experience rather than insults. Reviews that are factual tend to carry more weight with potential customers.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so frustrating that I feel compelled to warn others.

My friends and I arrived at Sho J Oregano’s Crescent Avenue location at approximately 9:45 PM. Although the restaurant’s posted closing time was 10:00 PM, we were told they would not seat us. While disappointing, we decided to give the restaurant another chance and took a taxi to the White Plains Road location, which was listed as being open until 11:00 PM.

We arrived around 10:00 PM only to be told that location was also closed and would not serve us.

What makes this particularly frustrating is that both locations were advertised as open, yet neither was willing to accommodate customers who arrived during posted business hours. We wasted time and money traveling between locations, only to be turned away twice.

For a restaurant that has received recognition as one of New York City’s notable dining destinations, I expected a much higher level of professionalism and consistency. If your kitchen closes early or you stop seating guests before closing time, that information should be clearly communicated online and at the door. Customers should not have to guess whether “open” actually means open.

The food may be excellent, but customer service and reliability matter too. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend making the trip unless you’re prepared to be turned away despite arriving during posted

The pernil was so tender and the rice and beans were flavorful. The mofongo was was garlic butter deliciousness. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend.
I been dying to come for the past year. The food did not disappoint! Everything we had was good; chicharron de Pollo and friend snapper were well seasoned, tostones were a decent size not the skimpy type. The place was a bit small and narrow inside. Also, the server was very dry.
Took my daughter here for her graduation dinner the place is really cute it feels like you're in DR The food was amazing and so were the drinks The waitress very nice we were very welcome the food was awesome I would definitely come back
Last week was the 1st time that I tried Ajo y Oregano and I was so happy that I did.. The food at Ajo y Oregano is so good that I knew that it would not be my last time coming back here 😆. I bought the bake chicken, and let me tell you it was so well seasoned and so tender I was licking my fingers. I went back today, and purchased another meal and that was delicious. I used to take a bus to another spanish restaurant in my neighborhood, but I will not have to do that anymore. I met one of the owners Joel, who was so warm and welcoming. The customer service is great. I will be back this weekend 😂
Ajo y Orégano is a MUST. 5/5 across the board. 🔥
Came here with my boyfriend and everything we ordered was insane. The grilled chicken with white rice was perfectly seasoned and juicy, and the mofongo with chicharrón de pollo? Easily one of the best I’ve had—crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Every bite hit.
On top of that, the portions were generous and everything tasted super fresh. The whole experience was elevated by our server, Joel, who was amazing—attentive, friendly, and made sure we were taken care of the entire time.
If you’re thinking about going, just go. This spot does NOT miss. 👏
Food is good. Everything is usually fresh. Ordered a few times and enjoyed it but it’s really expensive and the portions are very small. You’ll pay like 15 to 20 dollars for what amounts to a few bites. Not really worth it.
I’m in love with this place. Dominican food the way they make it back home. The place is decorated with tipical DR items and style. The food 😋😋🤤🤤.
First time here the is place was beautiful and the great food! The service was great also. The gentlemen treat us like we were family.
The food was fantastic, and the service was excellent. It was a group of 8, and we had no complaints. We celebrated my brother's birthday, eating, laughing, and singing him a happy birthday in a very special way.
The environment is very welcoming, very Dominican and I like everything that has in the Dominican culture. It was my mother's birthday and we had a great time and she was very legitimate. A bit small but excellent.
Truly, it doesn’t not get better than this. The food here is too good to be true. Every bite is a new experience. They do not play with their spices. Their passionfruit juice is so refreshing and tasty.

If you have kids, this is a wonderful spot to go to! Or even for a date. It’s really beautiful in here!
This is a restaurant takes you back to your childhood in DR, its beautiful decoration and excellent cuisine, its very attentive and pleasant staff, and its super affordable prices. I 100% recommend you enjoy this place.
The food was excellent, everything was juicy and tasty. The attention, even though we arrived without a reservation and about to close, was excellent, the drinks were delicious and I loved the presentation of the food, very Dominican and I'm not Dominican but I love mofongo and it's one of the best I've ever eaten.
Went there on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Love the decor very traditional and bright colors. Staff is very welcoming and attentive. Food was beyond exquisite, so flavorful. My order was huge, I took leftover. The Gandules con Coco are to die for, amazingly good. The seating wait was 20 minutes. They offer valet parking. I will definitely return.
