Eat Real Food was born in late 2013, one of the toughest years of my life. For the 3 years leading up to this point I watched my dad slowly fade away and eventually get taken by the all too prevalent disease, cancer. It completely and utterly broke my heart.
When dad passed away it only engrained in me how important education around food is, for everyone. So with a push from one of my dear friends i started this site in the hopes to inspire just one person to change the way they think about food and to help them connect with how these choices affect their health and general wellbeing on a day to day basis.
I don't believe in silly health claims like "superfoods" or going to extremes like only juicing or just eating raw foods. Life is about balance and enjoying that glass of wine or that piece of bread. As long as it's real.
REAL, LOCAL, ORGANIC and SUSTAINABLE. The way nature intended food to be.
Somewhere along the line healthy got complicated. Sadly, marketing tools like the words "low fat" and "all natural" are winning over our own common sense. But we are better than that. How about asking questions like: 'Where does it come from?', 'What does that ingredient mean?', 'How does this food make me feel?'. Whether you're vegan, a vegetarian or a meat eater, THE most important thing is knowing where your food comes from and what you are putting into your body.
Globally we are suffering. Both mentally and physically. And pills aren't fixing the problem.
FOOD has made us sick and FOOD can make us better.
As consumers we have the power to change our food system just by refusing to support companies that grow food with pesticides or make their food in a laboratory. By supporting our local farmers and artisans instead. By eating real food.
On the recipe front, I don't claim to be a chef or even a good cook for that matter! But i do love eating clean, healthy, real food that doesn't take too long to prepare. So the recipes you'll find on the site are meant to be used as a guide. As inspiration. Some recipes don't even have the quantities written down. To help you to start thinking about the food you are eating and how easy is it to make healthy, clean, delicious food in no time at all.
Food really doesn't need to be complicated. It just needs to be real.
BE inspired. BE change.
